GOOD MORNING-ONCAM-PUSH

GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO N-B-C 2 NEWS TODAY.

I'M STACEY DEFFENBAUGH.

TODAY IS SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH.

WELL OUR WEEKEND IS SHAPPING UP TO BE A CLEAR AND SUNNY ONE.

WITH A CHANCE OF COOL TEMPERATURES BY NIGHT FALL.

ON MORE ON WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FOR OUR WEEKEND FORECAST.

HERE'S METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING. Return to index of stories...

TODAY'S WEATHER-WX CENTER

Some phenomenal weather awaits Southwest Florida this weekend, featuring tons of sun, comfortable temps, and low humidity. We even have a cool front to track today that will reinforce and replenish the cool air we already have in place, sending temps back down into the 40s late tonight.

We'll notice a few more clouds passing through during our Saturday, but sunshine will still be prevalent. The front that's moving in today is pretty weak, so with the exception of a couple sprinkles, we'll be in store for another dry day across Southwest Florida.

Once the front moves in by the middle of the afternoon, our sky will stay clear and quiet for the remainder of the day.

If you're head downtown to see the Edison Festival of Light Parade, the forecast looks great--just a little chilly and breezy with temperatures around 60 degrees when the parade gets underway. Temps will be quickly dropping into the 50s through the evening, so you'll want to have a coat, especially with the stiff breeze.

Temperatures during the day will be quite comfortable as highs only reach the low to mid 70s, but keep in mind we'll have strong northwesterly breeze this afternoon gusting up to 20-25 mph, which will work to make the air feeling cooler.

With clear skies in place tonight, temperatures will be rather chilly as morning lows dip into the mid 40s early Sunday with inland spots cooling into the low 40s.

Sunday is shaping up to be another beautiful day with wall to wall sunshine, low humidity, and daytime highs in the mid 70s.

Temperatures start to rebound as we go through the upcoming week. We're back around 80 by Monday afternoon, and that's where we'll stay for the remainder of the week. In fact, for the second half of the week, highs should manage to climb into the mid 80s with morning lows only dropping into the mid 60s.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

FORECAST-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.Some phenomenal weather awaits Southwest Florida this weekend, featuring tons of sun, comfortable temps, and low humidity.

Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS: SITTING DISEASE-CLIP-VO IN PLASMA

HOPE YOU'RE 'NOT' SITTING DOWN FOR THIS ONE.

NEW RESEARCH SUGGESTS THAT SITTING TOO MUCH GREATLY INCREASES YOUR RISK FOR HEART FAILURE.

A SERIOUS CONDITION THAT CAN LEAD TO MAJOR HEALTH PROBLEMS.

AMY OSHIER HAS MORE IN OUR HEALTH MATTERS REPORT. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS: SITTING DISEASE-PKG

FAILURE TO MOVE IS RESULTING IN HEART FAILURE- THAT'S THE LATEST

FROM A NEW STUDY. HALF OF OUR ADULT POPULATION ADMITS TO SITTING

AT LEAST SIX HOURS A DAY. AND IT'S BREAKING OUR HEARTS.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

9:14 Most of the things that we can do to try and prevent congestive heart failure

surround many of the same things that you often hear about good cardiac health: You

need to make certain that you're maintaining a reasonably body weight, watching your

blood pressure, trying to get exercise.

SOMETIMES CALLED 'SITTING DISEASE' RESEARCHERS FIND THE RISK OF

HEART FAILURE WAS MORE THAN DOUBLE FOR MEN WHO SAT AT LEAST FIVE

HOURS A DAY OUTSIDE OF WORK AND DIDN'T EXERCISE. COMPARED TO MEN

WHO WERE ACTIVE AND SAT FOR LESS THAN TWO HOURS EACH DAY.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

2:11 Congestive heart failure can be somewhat occult and sneak up on one. Often

unexplained weight gain accompanied by shortness of breath is the thing that tips you

off that it's early congestive heart failure.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

About 1 in 5 Americans over 40 will eventually develop heart failure-the medical term

doesn't mean the heart stops beating- it refers to an impaired function-that generally

gets worse over time.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:28 The term failure in this case means the failure of the heart to accommodate the

normal blood volume and thus fluid volume in the body. And there are acute situations

requiring hospitalization.

KEY CONTRIBUTORS ARE HYPERTENSION AND CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE-

STUDIES SHOW MEN WHO HAD BOTH BUT EXERCISED MORE AND SAT LESS,

HAD LOWER LEVELS OF HEART FAILURE- SO IT STANDS TO REASON, THAT

GETTING UP FROM THE CHAIR DOES YOUR HEART GOOD. FOR LEE MEMORIAL

HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
