5:02 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA."Cool mornings, warmer afternoons"

It was a stunning end to the weekend with blue skies, mild temperatures, and comfortable humidity levels. Our weather will be on cruise control over the next several days, as we track a big warm up through the middle part of the week.

Our President's Day morning will get off to a cool start with thermometer readings in the lower 50s along the urban corridor, with middle and upper 40s across our inland and northern communities. Sunshine will fill our skies from start to finish, while temperatures rebound nicely into the upper70s. Some spots may even touch the 80° mark this afternoon. It should be a beautiful day to enjoy any outdoor plans you may have with pleasant humidity values, as a very dry airmass remains in place.

Tonight, skies will stay mostly clear and by early morning, temperatures won't be quite as cool as they dip into the middle and upper 50s.

With high pressure in control for much of the week, a tranquil pattern will continue to be the theme of the forecast with unseasonably warm weather. Temperatures will warm into the lower 80s Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. As winds take more of an east and southeasterly turn, a warmer and more humid airmass will surge into Southwest Florida. By mid week, daytime highs will warm into the middle 80s with rain prospects less than 20%. By Friday and into the weekend, we'll introduce the chance for a stray shower or two. THE U-S FEDERAL HOLIDAY IS ON THE THIRD MONDAY OF FEBRUARY EACH YEAR.

SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FOR SOUTHWEST FLORIDA STUDENTS.

TODAY ALL SCHOOLS FOR CHARLOTTE AND COLLIER ARE CLOSED.

LEE COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY AND TUESDAY.

Presidents' Day in United States

Washington's Birthday, also known as Presidents' Day, is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of February. The day honors presidents of the United States, including George Washington, the USA's first president

What do people do?

Washington's Birthday officially honors the life and work of George Washington, the first president of the United States. The day commemorates past presidents of the USA. Washington's Birthday is sometimes known as Presidents' Day. This is because while most states have adopted Washington's Birthday, some states officially celebrate Presidents' Day.

Some states pay particular attention to Abraham Lincoln, as his birthday was also in mid-February. In the weeks or days leading up to the holiday, schools often organize events and lessons for students about the presidents of the United States and George Washington in particular. It is a popular day for stores to start their sales.

The US federal holiday is on the third Monday of February each year, but records show that George Washington's birthday is on February 22.

Public life

Many businesses are open as usual and many stores hold sales on Washington's Birthday. Many delivery services, except for the Post Office, have a regular service and many, but not all, public transit systems operate on regular schedules. Some schools close for the whole week for a mid-winter recess. According to some government sources, Indiana observes the Washington's birthday holiday in December.

Background

George Washington was the first president of the United States of America. His first term as president was from 1789 to 1793 and his second term from 1793 to 1797. Before he became president, he played important roles in the military, leading the American Continental Army to victory over the British in 1783. Washington is often seen as the father of the United States and is probably the best known American politician ever.

The likeness and name of George Washington can still be seen in many places in the United States. There is the portrait of him and three other American presidents carved into Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. His image is also used on the one-dollar bill and the quarter-dollar coin. The capital of the United States, Washington D.C., Washington State and at least three universities are named after him.

Washington's Birthday was first celebrated as a holiday in the District of Columbia in 1880. It was made a federal holiday in 1885. The holiday was originally held on the anniversary of George Washington's birth, on February 22. In 1971, this holiday was moved to the third Monday in February.

This holiday is legally designated as "Washington's Birthday". Though other institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is the federal government's policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law. HAPPIEST CITIES TO WORK-ONCAM, CG

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LITTLE MORE CHEER IN YOUR LIVE.

YOU SHOULD CONSIDER MOVING TO THE WEST COAST.

CALIFORNIA IS HOME TO THREE OF THE TOP TEN HAPPIEST CITIES TO WORK IN.

WITH SAN JOSE AS NUMBER ONE. ALONG WITH SAN FRANCSICO AND SAN DIEGO.

OTHER PLACES INCLUDE.

WASHINGTON D.C.

LAS VEGAS

SALT LAKE CITY

HOUSTON

THE CITIES WERE RANKED BASED OFF OF EMPLOYEES RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR BOSS, WORK ENVIROMENT, AND SALARY.

CINCINNATI OHIO TAKES THE TOP SPOT FOR THE UNHAPPIEST CITY TO WORK IN.

WITH ORLANDO FLORIDA IN NUMBER TWO.

mployees looking for a little more cheer in their lives should consider moving to the U.S. West Coast, new research shows.

California is home to three of the 10 happiest cities to work in, including San Jose, which tops the list. San Francisco and San Diego were also among the 10 cheeriest cities for employees, the study by online career community CareerBliss revealed.

The rankings were based on several key factors that affect work happiness, including an employee'srelationship with his or her boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks and job control over work performed on a daily basis. The data accounts for how an employee values each factor, as well as how important that factor is to the employee's overall happiness.

In San Jose, the people and the company reputation had a large impact on overall happiness. As the capital of Silicon Valley, CareerBliss researchers said the northern California city has a large concentration of technology jobs that are often high paying and provide innovative work environments.

Other cities outside of California ranking in the top 10 included:

Washington, D.C.

Las Vegas, Nev.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Houston, Texas

Boston, Mass.

Philadelphia, Pa.

Charlotte, N.C.

Factors that ranked high across all of the happiest cities were the opportunities for growth and the relationship employees had with their co-workers.

In contrast, CareerBliss found that the rewards employees' received and the support they got were lowest in cities that were the unhappiest. In addition, a common factor that affected unhappy cities was a lower ranking in overall work environment.

The 10 unhappiest cities were:

Cincinnati, Ohio

Orlando, Fla.

Indianapolis, Ind.

Denver, Colo.

Pittsburgh, Pa.

Tampa, Fla.

Columbus, Ohio Return to index of stories...
