FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

GORGEOUS WEATHER CONTINUES

Tuesday morning started off with seasonally cool temperatures in place across Southwest Florida. Through the day, an abundance of sunshine will continue as temperatures warm into the lower 80s. Winds from the east-southeast around 5-10 mph will turn onshore near the coast this afternoon. That afternoon sea breeze will keep the highs on the beaches just a bit cooler; topping out in the upper 70s. We don't have any rain chances today or through the rest of the work week. There will be subtle differences each day as winds turn a bit more southerly and transport more humidity and a few more clouds into our area by the end of the week.

Into the weekend, we'll bring in more clouds along with the chance for a few showers late Saturday into Sunday. By no means does this look like a wash out and right now, you should go on with your weekend planning.

By Monday, we are looking at better chances for scattered showers in the area. Return to index of stories...

SCRIPT:

WILL MURKLE hugging wife:

"Sorry."

It's the hug two shaken families feared

they'd never, again, share.

Will Murkle, his daughter, Megun,

and John Julian and his kids: Samantha

and Isaac - all survived the UNTHINKABLE.

SAMANTHA JULIAN, 8 years old

"It was freezing."

A bone-chilling night in the Idaho

mountains, STRANDED, after a field

trip went TERRIBLY WRONG.

MEGUN MURKLE, 10 years old

"The car just slid, kind of, off the road into

the side of the mountain."

Their SUV STUCK in the snow.

No gas, no supplies, and no cellphone service.

The group sang songs and told stories

to distract themselves - FEARING what

they might ENCOUNTER.

WILL MURKLE:

"The scariest thing was when we came across

fresh wolf tracks.

After a long cold night, Sunday sunrise -

they walked NINETEEN MILES, the Dads

encouraging their hungry kids along the way.

JOHN JULIAN:

"We told them that they'd get a cheeseburger,

hot chocolate, fries, and a soda."

They finally found a cabin and

phoned their families.

EMILY JULIAN

"My big concern - not knowing if they were

injured."

Amazingly, everyone is ok.

These Dads promising:

NEXT TIME, they'll SPEAK UP before

they leave.

JOHN JULIAN:

"I think the most important thing is that we would have

made more clear where we were going, exactly."

Even the kids picking up tips they'll share with

classmates this morning.

MEGUN MURKLE, 10 years old

"I'm going to bring extra blanket, sleeping bags,

food, and more water, and pillows, and a tent."

Lessons from a harrowing trip they'll

never forget. For Good Morning America,

A LITTLE GIRL IN PHOENIX IS PART OF ONE OF THE MOST EXCLUSIVE CLUBS IN THE WORLD.

-REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

SHE'S YOUNGER THAN THE I-PAD SHE PLAYS ON.

AND IS BARELY BIGGER THAN THE WORLD PUZZLE SHE PIECES TOGETHER.

BUT THREE-YEAR-OLD ALEXIS HAS A SPECIAL NAME: GENIUS. THAT ISN'T A CREDIT CARD ALEXIS IS SWIPING, IT'S ACTUALLY A MENSA CARD.

MENSA IS THAT EXCLUSIVE HIGH IQ SOCIETY. ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH AN I-Q SCORE ABOVE 140.

ALEXIS STARTED READING WHEN SHE WAS JUST TWO YEARS OLD.

From 12 to 18 months or so, we'd be driving around in the car and she would recite her bedtime story from the night before. We are talking 20 to 25 page books, and she would recite them from the night before. But not just recite them, recite them exactly.

TURNS OUT, LITTLE ALEXIS HAS AN IQ OF OVER 160. THE AVERAGE PERSON HAS AN IQ OF 100.

IN FACT, ALEXIS DID SO WELL ON HER IQ TEST, THE DOCTORS COULDN'T EVEN CALCULATE IT.

Anytime she learns a word and just picks up the word through anything, she never ever uses it in the incorrect context, ever.

IT'S NOT JUST HER 5-TH GRADE READING LEVEL THAT'S SO SHOCKING.

ALEXIS IS ALSO FLUENT IN SPANISH. HER PARENTS CREDIT THE ADULT APP ON THEIR I-PAD FOR THAT.

Now she can read and translate and correct us on Spanish.

BOTH MOM AND DAD KNOW ALEXIS' GIFT IS AMAZING, BUT THEY ALSO ARE DISCOVERING NEW CHALLENGES.

Does she go into kindergarten early? We are kind of hesitant to move her ahead too many grades, because we do want her to to get that social aspect.

EVEN THOUGH ALEXIS IS ONE OF THE YOUNGEST GENIUSES IN THE WORLD SHE'S STILL A 3-YEAR-OLD AT HEART. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO WITNESS NOT ONLY seems CRAZY -- IT'S ALSO A CRIME.

BASE JUMPING -- IT'S THE EXTREME OF THE EXTREME.

BASE IS AN ACRONYM FOR BUILDINGS, ANTENNAE, SPANS AND EARTH -- BASICALLY FIND SOMETHING TALL AND HURL YOUR BODY OFF IT.

THE BASE JUMPER IN THIS VIDEO TOOK FLIGHT FROM A GONDOLA IN WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- 1500 FEET ABOVE GROUND.

POLICE ARE USING THE VIDEO POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA sites TO TRACK down THIS JUMPER.

THEY SAY THEY KNOW HIS IDENTITY AND HAVE ALREADY ARRESTED A WOMAN FOR ALLEGEDLY HELPING HIM JUMP.

"YouTube will become a vehicle for the law enforcement community to identify and prosecute individuals.the gondola, they're specific about stating that it's used as a means of transportation, not as your platform to carry out a base jump."

BUT THE RUSH OF BASE JUMPING -- GLAMORIZED BY HOLLYWOOD -- PULLS MANY THRILL SEEKERS BACK FOR MORE.

AND BEYOND GETTING CAUGHT, THERE'S A MUCH GREATER CONCERN.

"It's dangerous. If something should happen where the parachute failed to delploy for example you could have somebody killed."

THAT WAS THE CASE RECENTLY WHEN A PARACHUTE DIDN'T OPEN FOR A 28-YEAR-OLD NEWLYWED WHO DIED BASE JUMPING IN UTAH.

SHE AND HER HUSBAND OF TWO WEEKS -- SEEN HERE BASE JUMPING AT A DIFFERENT TIME -- KNOWN AS EXPERIENCED BASED JUMPERS.

HER HUSBAND WAS CHARGED WITH A MISDEMEANOR BASE JUMPING OFFENSE AFTER HER DEATH -- CHARGES THAT WERE LATER DROPPED.

VETERAN BASE JUMPERS SAY ARRESTS MAY NOT DETER THRILL SEEKERS FROM TAKING THESE DANGEROUS SOMETIMES DEADLY - AND IN THIS CASE ILLEGAL PLUNGES.
