FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

ANOTHER SUNNY, WARM DAY

Our Thursday morning is off to a mild start and temperatures will be climbing through the day. Afternoon highs will be near 80 at the beaches to the mid 80s inland. We'll see lots of sunshine today with just a few fair weather clouds. Winds will be from the southeast around 10-15 mph with gusts near 20 mph with the sea breeze coming in to the beaches during the afternoon hours.

For Friday, more cloud cover will arrive as a front pushes its way toward the area. We could even see a couple of showers during the afternoon hours, but the best chance for that shower activity will be in the inland areas. We'll be a couple of degrees cooler on Friday due to the cloud cover.

That front will likely stall just to our north. Then through the weekend it will stay just north of us, but will wobble north and south a bit. Since it now looks like that front will stay north of us, our weekend weather pans out ok. We'll have highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid and upper 60s. We'll see partly to mostly sunny skies with only a stray shower. It now looks like our better rain chance waits until the middle of next week. Return to index of stories...

MARKETS HAVE REBOUNDED NICELY SINCE THE RECENT LOWS SET EARLIER THIS MONTH WHEN THE S&P500 LOST NEARLY 5 PERCENT.

NICK CLUMSKY FROM WELLS FARGO IS HERE.

NICK, DO YOU believe THIS WAS JUST A SPEED BUMP IN THE RALLY?

HOW SHOULD INVESTORS BE POSITIONED FOR THE BALANCE OF 2014? Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

· It's nice to be back after the little Olympics break we had for the past couple of weeks. But on to your question. The pullback we saw in January and early February was fairly shallow. And I think that speaks to the fundamental strength of our economy and some of the leading indicators supporting a growing economy.

· At this point, the S&P500 is less than 1% below its all-time high of 1,850 points. And although I don't think we will see a repeat of the impressive 2012 or 2013 gains in the market, I do think we will continue to grind higher from here. In short, I believe the returns in your account in 2014 won't come as easily as they did in the past two years. We believe you need to be a much more 'intentional investor' in 2014. So how you do that?

· First, being an intentional investor doesn't mean just chasing after last year's winners. We believe a better strategy is to take time during the first part of the year, now, and rebalance your portfolio. Rebalancing your portfolio usually means putting more money into underperforming assets whose holdings have dropped in value and at the same time taking profits in the best-performing assets whose holdings have increased in value. In essence, rebalancing tends to sell high and buy low.

· Second, intentional investors don't 'set it and forget it.' Investors that don't routinely review and rebalance their portfolios can significantly drift away from their risk/reward profile over time. I think this is best illustrated by the difference in performance between the stock market and the bond market over the past two years. Since January 1st, 2012, the total return of the stock market is 48%. In the same period, the bond market returned 2%. Therefore, it's very likely that your portfolio risk is greater than your acceptable risk profile.

· Third, intentional investors review their risk tolerance. After a couple of years of strong gains in the market, you may not need to take as much risk as originally planned since you may be much closer to reaching your financial goals than originally planned. Talk to your financial advisor to discuss taking some risk off the table and perhaps rebalancing to a more conservative allocation.

· In a nutshell, rebalancing is about making a plan, revisiting your plan, and adjusting your plan when your goals and risk tolerance change. If you don't have a well-developed investment plan, please contact your financial advisor. This isn't the time to let chance alone decide the health of your investment portfolio. WHEN YOU BUY A HOME, YOU HOPE everything works out PERFECTLY.

But that comes with a warning.

SOT: TODD OWENS, HOMEOWNER

"we decided to have a little invested peace of time. peace of mind"

WHEN TODD OWENS BOUGHT A 40-YEAR OLD HOUSE, HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE RELIABILITY OF HIS APPLIANCES AND HEATING SYSTEM. SO WHEN A HOME WARRANTY WAS OFFERED AT SETTLEMENT, HE THOUGHT IT SOUNDED LIKE A GOOD IDEA. OWENS PAID 400-DOLLARS FOR A ONE YEAR POLICY.

"their claim is they cover basically everything in your home. they mention dishwashers refrigerators ceiling fans plumbing. it goes through a whole list of clothes dryer washer. things that you would expect to be part of a house"

SO WHEN OWENS REFRIGERATOR STARTED TO FAIL, HE PRESUMED IT WAS COVERED. HE CALLED THE REPAIR SERVICE PROVIDED IN HIS WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THE FRIDGE HAD A FAULTY WATER PUMP, BUT.

"the water pump wasn't covered by the warranty"

"that's something that's still unknown to us"

SO OWENS PAID MORE THAN 200-DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET TO FIX IT.

THEN THE REFRIGERATOR'S MAIN COMPUTER BOARD HAD TO BE REPLACED.

"this luckily was covered by the warranty"

BUT OWENS SAYS THE WARRANTY'S REPAIRMAN ORDERED THE WRONG PART AND HE HE WENT SEVEN WEEKS WITHOUT A WORKING REFRIGERATOR. THE HOME WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THE 12-HUNDRED DOLLARS HE HAD TO SPEND EATING OUT WITH TWO KIDS.

"given the amount of money we spent and the time it took it probably would have been less expensive for me to buy a new refrigerator"

THEN OWENS HAD AN AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEM. THE WARRANTY REPAIR SERVICE SAID THE SYSTEM WAS FINE. BUT WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM POPPED UP AGAIN, HIS WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND OWENS HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.

"which cost us an extra 500 and 89 dollars"

"home warranties get my blood boiling"

DAVID BUTLER WITH CONSUMERS UNION SAYS HOME WARRANTIES ARE LOADED WITH FINE PRINT. AND EVEN THOUGH BROCHURES AND SALESMEN MAKE THEM SOUND LIKE A GOOD DEAL, MOST WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

"more often we find the person who buys that extended warranty might have a problem and finds its not covered. extended warranties are notorious for having loopholes will leave you holding the bag."

"it just leaves you with the feeling that you've been taken"

OWENS SAYS HIS HOME WARRANTY WAS WORTHLESS AND THE REQUIRED REPAIRMEN WERE LOUSY TECHNICIANS.

HIS ADVICE TO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING A HOME WARRANTY.

"i would tell them to save the money for the repair that going to be needed down the road." Return to index of stories...

FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

SHOE BOMB WARNING-PKG

NEW CONCERN TERRORISTS MAY TARGET DIRECT FLIGHTS FROM OVERSEAS HEADING TO THE U-S.

THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY IS WARNING AIRLINES THAT TERRORISTS MAY ATTEMPT TO HIDE EXPLOSIVES IN SHOES, COSMETICS AND LIQUIDS.

ACCORDING TO ONE INDUSTRY SOURCE, THE ADVISORY MENTIONS MORE THAN TWO DOZEN CITIES OVERSEAS -- INCLUDING JOHANNESBURG, PARIS, LONDON, CAIRO AND SOME ADDITIONAL CITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

"The DHS warning was non-specific, but the universe of people who have desire and capability is not large-- it's al Qaeda and al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula."

THIS DEMONSTRATION SHOWS THE POTENTIAL DEVASTATION A SHOE BOMB COULD CAUSE.

SOURCES SAY INTELLIGENCE INDICATES TERROR GROUPS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A NEW SHOE BOMB DESIGN.

AND IT'S NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY'VE TRIED TO BLOW UP A PLANE THAT WAY.

SHORTLY AFTER NINE-ELEVEN-- PASSENGERS ON AN AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT FROM PARIS TO MIAMI THWARTED RICHARD REID'S ATTEMPT TO DETONATE EXPLOSIVES HIDDEN IN HIS SNEAKERS.

AFTER THAT, THE T-S-A STARTED ASKING EVERYONE IN THE U-S TO TAKE THEIR SHOES OFF WHILE GOING THROUGH SECURITY.

THIS NEW WARNING COMES JUST TWO WEEKS AFTER U-S OFFICIALS WARNED AIRLINES TERRORISTS COULD HIDE EXPLOSIVES IN TOOTHPASTE TUBES ON FLIGHTS HEADING TO RUSSIA, AHEAD OF THE SOCHI OLYMPICS.

OFFICIALS SAY THIS NEW THREAT IS UNRELATED. Return to index of stories...

LAWSUITS AGAINST THE NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY MAY BE HAVING AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE.

SOME GOVERNMENT LAWYERS TELL THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, COURT RULES ON PRESERVING EVIDENCE REQUIRE THE N-S-A TO STOP DESTROYING OLDER PHONE RECORDS.

Neknominate games can be a good time, laughs and everything till you can go

REPORTS SAY OVERSEAS, FIVE PEOPLE UNDER 30 MAY HAVE DIED DUE TO IMBIBING

DEADLY DRINKS WHILE PLAYING THE GAME.

SOT: Dr. Besser: In this game there is sometimes mixing other things in with

the alcohol and the side effects of that you have no way to predict.

PEER PRESSURE, PLAYING A PROMINENT ROLE:

AND NOW, GAMES LIKE THIS BECOMING A TREND HERE IN THE UNITED STATES

SOT: Michael Bradley, psychologist and author

Neknomination is the logical extension happening with our youth and drinking

/ today / they are running shots to get drunk as fast as they can.

WILL KIDS BE ABLE TO GRASP THE CONSEQUENCES?

17;26;53;15

SOT: Dr. Besser:: Alcohol in teenagers can be very dangerous. They don't

have a lot of experience, they don't know what they're limits are and by the

time they've drunk too much it's often too late.
