TODAY'S WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.The warmth and humidity stay bottled up over Southwest Florida this weekend as we continue our stretch of unseasonably warm weather.

After a warm and muggy start to the day with some pockets of fog, we'll gradually see increasing sunshine through the morning, but clouds stay quite plentiful through the day.

With a mix of clouds and sunshine, temperatures will have no trouble peaking in the 80s later in the day. Temperatures along the coast will be slightly cooler as the sea breeze sets up this afternoon, but away from the beaches, daytime highs will soar into the mid 80s.

A few showers will be possible by midday, but the favored spots for rain will be deep inland toward the interior part of the peninsula. Our rain chances today should only be around 30%.

We've got another muggy, warm evening ahead with temperatures only settling down to the upper 60s, and the necessary ingredients will be in place for more fog to develop early Sunday morning.

Sunday will be a warm, sunny, and partly cloudy day with highs back to the mid 80s; any rain chance will be well inland and far from our coast.

The warm weather rolls along into the first half of the week, but an approaching cool front should bring in more clouds and a few showers late Wednesday into Thursday.

Our temperatures should drop a little Thursday and Friday with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s, but our sky should stay fairly cloudy through the end of the week. Return to index of stories...

SO WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FOR THE REST OF THE WEEKEND.

FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

The warmth and humidity stay bottled up over Southwest Florida this weekend as we continue our stretch of unseasonably warm weather.

The incident during a traffic jam on this Miami highway was broadcast live on local radio.

That woman is Pamela Rauseo, whose five-month-old nephew, Sebastian de la Cruz, had just stopped breathing.

Out of the car, she dropped to the ground to help the child.

Behind Rauseo in HIS car was Miami-Herald photojournalist Al Diaz, who ran to find help.

Lucila Godoy rushed to help and comfort Rauseo, and to dial 911.

Meanwhile, Diaz found Sweetwater police officer Amauris Bastidas in HIS car.

Two officers from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, who arrived, credit Rauseo for saving her nephew.

With the situation finally under control, Diaz, began to finally take these photographs.

Sebastian, seen in these home videos, was born last September, two months premature. Suffering from congestion, he and his aunt were returning from a doctor's visit when the emergency occurred.

In photos today.Sebastian appears much better. Doctors say he is in critical but stable condition.thanks to LOTS of strangers who came to HELP him.

FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

THE KNEES HAVE IT, HANDS DOWN, WHEN IT COMES TO DAMAGED JOINTS.

DR. JOHN KAGAN/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

48: We see more knee problems than any other joint. Primarily because it's our main

joint with locomotion.

NEARLY ¾ OF A MILLION AMERICANS EACH YEAR UNDERGO A TOTAL KNEE

REPLACEMENT. IT'S GENERALLY DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FACTORS.

INCLUDING GENETICS, TRAUMA AND PLAIN OLD WEAR AND TEAR.

DR. JOHN KAGAN/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

1:11 I think we see more knee problems because we've remained more active for a

longer period of time. Obviously if you are active you run the risk of having an injury.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Arthritis is a top cause of joint surgery. As cartilage wears away- the joint loses it's

shock absorber. The result is the painful bone on bone rubbing. This process can be

accelerated if you throw in an injury- or slowed down if you get treatment early on.

DR. JOHN KAGAN/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

2:02 A lot of patients come in our office with what I consider to be knee problems like

torn menisci, torn cartilage, or ligament injuries but we're able to treat those and repair

those so they don't develop the arthritic process.

FOR MANY PEOPLE, JOINT SURGERY IS THEIR LAST, BEST OPTION. EVEN SO

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES PROVIDE PATIENTS WITH CHOICES.

DR. JOHN KAGAN/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

5:18 We try to utilize techniques such as arthroscopic surgery or partial knee

resurfacing, so that we save their ligaments, we save the un-involved parts of their joints

and we only resurface that part of the joint that's actually damaged.

THE GOAL IS TO RELIEVE PAIN AND KEEP PEOPLE FUNCTIONAL- SO THEIR

KNEES DON'T GET THEM DOWN. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M
