ACETAMINOPHEN TO ADHD-PKG

ACETAMINOPHEN IS SUCH A COMMON PAIN RELIEVER - BUT A NEW STUDY SUGGESTS THAT THE USE OF ACETAMINOPHEN DURING PREGNANCY COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH A-D-H-D-LIKE BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN.

THE STUDY, DONE IN DENMARK AND PUBLISHED IN THE MEDICAL JOURNAL JAMA PEDIATRICS LOOKED AT DATA FROM MORE THAN 64 THOUSAND CHILDREN.

IT SAYS THE BIGGEST RISK WAS AMONG WOMEN USING ACETAMINOPHEN THE MOST OFTEN AND LATER IN PREGNANCY. RESEARCHERS FOUND THAT WHEN A WOMAN USED THE PAIN RELIEVER FOR 20 WEEKS OR MORE -- THEIR CHILD HAD A 50 PERCENT INCREASED RISK OF RECEIVING A-D-H-D MEDICINE LATER IN LIFE.

THE RESEARCHERS SAID ACETAMINOPHEN MAY BE INTERFERING WITH MATERNAL HORMONES THAT ARE CRITICAL FOR FETAL BRAIN DEVELOPMENT.

BUT AN EDITORIAL PUBLISHED IN JAMA EMPHASIZED THAT WHILE THE STUDY FOUND "AN INTERESTING OBSERVED ASSOCIATION," IT NOTED THAT THE RESEARCHERS DID NOT FIND THAT ACETAMINOPHEN CAUSES A-D-H-D AND THE STUDY AUTHORS AGREE.

ACETAMINOPHEN IS COMMONLY FOUND IN OVER-THE-COUNTER PAIN RELIEVERS INCLUDING TYLENOL. JOHNSON AND JOHNSON, THE MAKER OF TYLENOL RESPONDED IN A STATEMENT, SAYING QUOTE:

"TYLENOL HAS ONE OF THE MOST FAVORABLE SAFETY PROFILES AMONG OVER-THE-COUNTER PAIN RELIEVERS. IF PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING, THE CONSUMER SHOULD ASK A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL BEFORE USE."

MANY EXPERTS SAY MORE RESEARCH NEEDS TO BE DONE AND OF COURSE IF A WOMAN HAS ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS, THEY SHOULD TALK TO THEIR DOCTOR. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Warm again, with late week rain"

We kicked the new week off on a very warm note as daytime highs reached the lower to middle 80s in many spots with lots of humidity. Not much change will happen in the short term, but we are going to track increasing rain prospects by mid to late week along with a slight cool down.

Once the low clouds and fog lift, we'll be treated to a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon. Just like yesterday, the urban corridor is expected to stay mainly dry, while a few showers pop during the heat of the day across our interior zones. Daytime highs will range from 80° along the coast to the middle 80s elsewhere.

A few clouds will linger across the region tonight with the possibility of a patch or two of fog to develop. Temperatures will also be slightly cooler as they settle into the lower to middle 60s by tomorrow morning.

By midweek, we'll be tracking another weather system due in from the north and west. This will increase our clouds on Wednesday with widely scattered showers overnight through the Thursday time frame. Daytime highs will return to seasonal averages as they top out in the middle to upper 70s, while overnight lows dip into the middle to upper 50s. Clouds will be slow to clear on Friday with more sunshine during the afternoon. The weekend is looking very nice with lots of sunshine with temperatures warming into the lower 80s, while humidity levels stay rather comfortable. Return to index of stories...

SOME OF THE PROTESTS HAVE BEEN SMALL. OTHERS HAVE BEEN.NOT SO SMALL.

ARIZONA STATE SENATOR AL MELVIN, WHO VOTED FOR THE BILL, SAYS HE DOESN'T SEE IT THAT WAY.

"We think it's nothing more and nothing less than protecting religious freedom in our state and we take that very seriously."

SUPPORTERS SAY THAT RIGHT WOULDN'T APPLY TO JUST ANY BUSINESS.

"If you look at the bill that Arizona passed, if you can cite to me any provision in there that gives a person a right to simply turn away service from a restaurant, then I'll oppose the bill, but that's not what the bill is about."

.BUT OPPONENTS CALL IT A SLIPPERY SLOPE, THAT CLOSING THE DOOR ON ONE GROUP OF PEOPLE WILL ONLY LEAD TO MORE CLOSED DOORS FOR OTHERS.

"I have a history of deliberating and having an open dialogue on bills that are controversial to listen to both sides of those issues."

"I have to look at what it says and what the law says and take that information and do the right thing."

SOME BUSINESS OWNERS WORRY THE BILL COULD LEAD TO BOYCOTTS OF EVENTS IN ARIZONA, WHICH HOSTS THE SUPER BOWL IN 2015. THE N-F-L ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING IT WAS FOLLOWING THE ISSUE AND WOULD CONTINUE TO DO SO SHOULD THE BILL BE SIGNED INTO LAW.

UKRAINE LATEST-PKG

WELL THE CREATION OF A NEW INTERIM GOVERNMENT IN KIEV - EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EXPECTED TODAY AND NOW WE UNDERSTAND IT'LL TAKE ANOTHER TWO DAYS TO BE ANNOUNCED IS A BOON FOR U-S RELATIONS WITH UKRAINE.

ALREADY, DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE BILL BURNS IS COMING TO KIEV LATER THIS WEEK FOR DISCUSSIONS.BUT THE U-S ALL ALONG HAS SAID THAT THIS IS NOT A ZERO-SUM GAME AND THAT RUSSIA, WITH ITS CLOSE HISTORIC TIES TO UKRAINE, MUST ALSO CONTRIBUTE AND THAT THAT SHOULD HAPPEN IN A SUPPORTIVE WAY.

RUSSIA, OF COURSE, SEES THINGS VERY DIFFERENTLY.

IT SEES EVENTS IN KIEV AS MEDDLING BY THE U-S AND THE WEST AND NOW OF COURSE ALL EYES ARE ON RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN AND WHAT HE'LL DO NEXT.

TODAY FOREIGN MINISTER SERGEI LAVROV WARNED TODAY THAT IT'S DANGEROUS TO FORCE UKRAINE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE WEST AND RUSSIA.THE WEST OF COURSE DENIES THAT IT'S DOING THAT.

HE ALSO SAID THAT RUSSIA SUPPORTS THE PRINCIPLE OF NON-INTERVENTION IN UKRAINE ON BOTH SIDES.

NOW MANY EXPERTS HERE IN MOSCOW SAY THAT PUTIN WON'T TRY TO INVADE OR AGGRESSIVELY SPLIT UP UKRAINE TO PROTECT RUSSIAN INTERESTS.AT LEAST THEY ADD.NOT YET.

"Every year thousands die waiting to get an organ."

THAT'S WHY INSIDE THE LAB AT THE TEXAS HEART INSTITUTE, DOCTOR DORIS TAYLOR AND HER TEAM ARE ACTUALLY BUILDING HEARTS.

"It's really incredible to think that I'm witnessing the regeneration of a beating heart"

THEY ARE TAKING PIG HEARTS, STRIPPING THEM USING SIMPLE DISH SOAP AND WATER, AND THEN IMPLANTING THEM WITH ADULT HUMAN STEM CELLS.

"These will go from being dark red to being completely white."

WHEN ADDED, OUR ADULT STEM CELLS MAKE THIS ORGAN. WHICH WAS ONCE A PIG HEART FUNCTIONAL TO EITHER FULLY REPLACE OR REPAIR A HUMAN HEART. LIKE PATCHWORK.

"Most people have one or two wow moments in their life. The first time I saw beating, I was like, 'Yes!' It makes you question, 'What is life?'"

SO WHAT'S THE TIMELINE TO TURN THIS FROM SCI-FI TO REAL LIFE? TAYLOR WOULD NOT SAY SPECIFICALLY.

"I think we'll be having some interesting conversations in the very short term."

SOME MIGHT QUESTION IF TAYLOR AND HER TEAM ARE TAKING SCIENCE TOO FAR.

"If we've been given tools to make a difference in the lives of people, my personal belief is that it would be morally wrong not to go forward and use those tools." Return to index of stories...
