FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Tranquil weather continues"

It was a beautiful weekend across Southwest Florida, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. A quiet weather pattern will remain in place over the next few days, before another storm system enhances the rainfall potential by late in the week.

We dealt with very little fog this morning and now mostly sunny conditions will be in command of our skies through the afternoon. It will also be another unseasonably warm day with temperatures climbing into the lower to middle 80s away from the coast. A late day gulf breeze will keep our beaches a few degrees cooler in the upper 70s to 80°.

With high humidity tonight and temperatures expected to settle into the lower half of the 60s, we'll more than likely see a few areas of patchy fog by early tomorrow morning.

High pressure will continue to migrate east Tuesday and Wednesday. As a result, our days will stay warm with highs in the middle 80s. Our wind flow will begin to turn more southerly, allowing more moisture to move in across the peninsula keeping overnight temperatures in the middle 60s. A mainly dry weather pattern will stay in place through Wednesday, with showers and storms being a good bet by Thursday as another storm system moves across the northern gulf coast region. Once the rain exits by early Friday, expect clearing skies and a slight cool down heading into next weekend with comfortable humidity values. Return to index of stories...

THIS PROBABLY ISN'T THE WINTER TO DO IT.

BY LAND OR BY AIR, THE WEATHER IS FORCING AMERICANS TO STAY HOME, CHANGE THEIR PLANS, OR SPEND HOURS MORE THAN NORMAL TO GET WHERE THEY'RE GOING.

TAKE THE ROADS IN OCEAN COUNTY, NEW JERSEY MONDAY.

"You can actually see as you're driving out there real shiny, so they're pretty icy out, nobody should be out right now."

BUT THEY WERE.

FROM DALLAS TO LITTLE ROCK TO PHILADELPHIA, DRIVERS JUST TRYING TO START THE WORK WEEK RAN SMACK DAB INTO MOTHER NATURE'S LATEST VOLLEY.

A WINTER BLAST THAT CAUSED HASSLE AND HEARTACHE FROM COAST TO COAST. 130 MILLION PEOPLE IN ITS PATH.

"A lot of fender benders, a lot of people trying to get to work early, trying to get a head start."

IT WAS MUCH THE SAME IN TEXAS, TENNESSEE, AND VIRGINIA.

ICE TURNED DALLAS AREA HIGHWAYS INTO 15-MILE LONG PARKING LOTS.

POLICE IN VIRGINIA RESPONDED TO 300 CRASHES IN JUST 10 HOURS.

THE SNOW FORCED MOST FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OFFICES IN WASHINGTON TO CLOSE.

HUNDREDS OF SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE REGION CANCELED YET AGAIN.

IT'S ENOUGH TO CAUSE EVEN THE MOST ARDENT FAN OF WINTER TO ADMIT, IT'S NOT THAT GREAT.'

"It's been challenging, getting the cars out of the driveway and such. I'm done with it. Ready for spring to come. Ready for things to start peeking out of the snow."

UNFORTUNATELY, THE ONLY THING UNDER THE SNOW HERE, IS ICE. AND MORE SNOW.

IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS, AMY OSHIER REPORTS ON HOW YOU MAY BE ABLE TO AVOID FALLING VICTIM. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

THE NAME ITSELF SOUNDS FRIGHTENING: THE WIDOW MAKER. IN TERMS OF A CARDIAC EVENT- IT IS NAMED FOR GOOD REASON.

DR. MURALI MUPPALA/CARDIOLGIST

RUNS:

1:09 When this happens, most of the people die unless you open those blockages pretty quickly.

IT'S CAUSED BY A SUDDEN BLOCKAGE OF THE LEFT ANTERIOR DESCENDING ARTERY- WHICH GIVES CIRCULATION TO ABOUT TWO-THIRDS OF YOUR HEART.

DR. MURALI MUPPALA/CARDIOLGIST

RUNS:

:26 When it is completely shut off, there is no oxygen going to the heart muscle. 1:46 If you don't get treatment immediately it's possible you could die before you realize you were having a heart attack.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

By some estimates the survival rate is between 5 and 10%. Because this heart attack comes on quickly with little or no warning- the best way to cheat on the widow maker is to know your risks.

DR. MURALI MUPPALA/CARDIOLGIST

RUNS:

5:23 It's very important for all of us to realize whether we have strong family history. If you know that someone in your family has a heart attack your chance of having heart attack is definitely higher.

PEOPLE WITH A STRONG FAMILY HISTORY SHOULD BE CAUTIOUS, ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE OTHER HEALTH CONDITIONS WHICH IMPACT HEART DISEASE. INCLUDING HYPERTENSION, HIGH CHOLESTEROL AND DIABETES.

DR. MURALI MUPPALA/CARDIOLGIST

RUNS:

5:40 You need to make sure you talk to your doctor, make sure you are getting proper treatment for those things. The other things you could do on individual level: physical activity, exercise four to five times a week, make sure your eating right, make sure your not smoking and make sure you lead healthy, active lifestyle.

BY SHOWING YOUR HEART SOME LOVE- MONITORING YOUR HEALTH UNDER A DOCTOR'S SUPERVISION- YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO KEEP THE WIDOW-MAKER AWAY. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
