THROUGH THE RAIN. SOME SLEET. AND A BITTER, WINTER WIND.

WITH TEMPERATURES JUST ABOVE FREEZING. IT'S ONE OF THE COLDEST CARNIVALS ON RECORD.

BUT NOT COLD ENOUGH. OR WET ENOUGH. TO CANCEL THE PARTY.

"We're the A team out today. these are not the light weights. we are dedicated to this event."

DEDICATION THAT CAN BE SEEN IN THE COSTUMES.

THOUGH MANY ARE COVERED BY PONCHOS. RAIN COATS. OR ARE UNDER UMBRELLAS.

BUT A LOT OF THE BALCONIES ARE EMPTY.

AND A LOT OF THE REVELERS HAVE BEEN PUSHED OFf THE STREETS AND INTO THE RESTAURANTS AND BARS.

"It's kinda drizzling off and on, but it's not bad. it's kinda cool, but you go in and get yourself a drink and you're good to go."

AND THERE COULD BE AT LEAST ONE BENEFIT TO THE ELEMENTS.

IT MAY HELP KEEP THINGS A BIT MORE "COVERED UP" THIS YEAR.

"Can't be quite as naked as I'd like to be."

COLD. AND WET. IT IS AFTER ALL -- STILL MARDI GRAS.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

HOWERS BY THURSDAY

The forecast tonight still calls for quiet weather. Skies will be mostly clear this evening with temperatures dropping down to the lower 60's along the coast and mid 50's inland. There will likely be more fog developing overnight and lasting for a few hours again tomorrow morning.

After the fog burns off, skies will be partly cloudy during the day with an increase in clouds by evening. On Thursday we will track a cold front moving in from the Gulf of Mexico. Skies will be mostly cloudy on Thursday and showers/thunderstorms will be developing during the day. A few of the storms could be accompanied with heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds.

The weather on Thursday should be followed by clearing skies on Friday and a very nice weekend. It looks like our temperatures will dip, briefly, into the 70's on Friday but rebound to the 80's by Saturday and Sunday. Mostly sunny skies are expected through the weekend. A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR MASTERPIECE IN DOWNTOWN FORT MYERS-

AT LEAST IN THE EYES OF LITERATURE LOVERS.

Beautiful , absolutely beautiful, well kept and clean.

I like the library - it's nice and modern

BUT A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE FIRST STREET BUILDING IS THAT PARKING IS ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY.

AND WITH 30 SPACES - EXTREMELY LIMITED FOR THE MORE THAN 66 THOUSAND VISITORS WHO WALKED THROUGH THESE DOORS SINCE DECEMBER.

instead of fighting for a spot, I will park in a church lot.

VISITOR GENE WILSON SAYS THE HANDICAPPED SPOTS ARE TOO FAR.

I thought it was a good deal - that it would be a good facility, but I got COPD and it's a hard walk for me to get over there.

HE'S GOT THE PERFECT PLAN -

they got all this grass over here - No one will use it. Why not plow it up and make a parking lot.

WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT LEE COUNTY STAFF PLANS TO DO.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED PLANS WILL MEAN EXTENDING THE CURRENT PARKING LOT-

ADDING 50 MORE SPACES.

it was fine fort me, don't know about the handicapped, it may be a problem.

STAFF WILL ALSO RELOCATE 5 HANDICAPPED SPOTS ONE BLOCK CLOSER TO THE FRONT DOOR.

PLANS TO SCRAP CITY EMPLOYEE PARKING WOULD HIKE THE NUMBER OF OPEN SPOTS TO MORE THAN 120.

THE COUNTY CALLS THE COST "NOMINAL"-

AND SAYS WORK WILL BEGIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

that'll be wonderful. Now we are on the right track.
