5:02 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Another nice Tuesday"

It's been a gorgeous start to the first of week of March across Southwest Florida, with abundant sunshine and warm weather. A tranquil pattern will remain in place over the next couple of days keeping us on cruise control, before showers and storms return by late in the week.

Temperatures will be slightly milder to start with most of us waking up in the lower half of the 60s, with a few readings in the upper 50s across our inland and interior zones. Patchy dense fog will be a concern once again this morning around sunrise, especially east of the interstate. Once the fog lifts and mixes out, mostly sunny skies will prevail through the mid morning. It will be another unseasonably warm day under sunshine and a few clouds with daytime temperatures climbing into the lower to middle 80s away from the coast. An afternoon gulf breeze will keep our beaches a few degrees cooler in the upper 70s to right around 80°.

With high humidity tonight and temperatures expected to lower into the 60s, we'll more than likely see a few patches of fog early tomorrow morning.

As high pressure slips east and weakens through Wednesday, we'll see a few more clouds across our skies. Our days will stay quite toasty with temperatures in the 80s. Our wind flow will begin to veer more south and southwest, allowing more moisture to move in across the peninsula keeping overnight temperatures in the middle 60s. A mainly dry weather pattern will stay in place through Wednesday, although a few isolated afternoon showers deep inland can't be ruled out. Showers and storms will be a good bet by Thursday as another storm system evolves and moves east across the Gulf of Mexico. Once the rain exits by early Friday, expect clearing skies and a slight cool down heading into next weekend with pleasant humidity values. Return to index of stories...

TENSION IN UKRAINE-TRX PLASMA

BREAKING NEWs THIS MORNING.

TENSIONS ESCALATED OVERNIGHT BETWEEN RUSSIAN AND UKRAINE.

SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY IS NOW ON HIS WAY TO KIEV.

With the Russian Air Force in the skies

And the Russian Navy patrolling ports and seas.

Vladmir Putin now controls the Crimea region in Eastern Ukraine.

It's a huge escalation, raising tensions around the globe.

Russia says its troops are there to protect Russian citizens from the unrest

in Ukraine -- sparked by violent protests that led to the ousting of the

country's President.

SOT Vitaly Churkin, Russian Ambassador to the UN

"THE COUNTRY HAS PLUNGED INTO CHAOS AND ANARCHY."

The U.S. is working on comprehensive sanctions and economic assistance for

Ukraine.

President Obama again warned that Russia risks isolating itself.

SOT Obama

"THE STRONG CONDEMNATION THAT IT'S RECEIVED FROM AROUND THE WORLD INDICATES

THE DEGREE TO WHICH RUSSIA IS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY ON THIS."

Overnight, Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Ukraine in a show of

support.

NATS - Ukrainian Navy man shuts gate at Navy installation in Crimean town of

Novo-Ozerne

But there's growing worry that the people of Ukraine may try to stop Putin,

touching off a full-scale war.

The Russian military would likely crush the Ukrainian forces. Russia

has 845,000 troops, Ukraine just 130,000.

But European foreign ministers are warning Russia.

SOT David Lidington, UK Minister of State for Europe

"I HOPE VERY MUCH THAT EVEN AT THIS STAGE THE GOVERNMENT OF RUSSIA WILL SEE

THAT IT IS IN NOBODY'S INTEREST TO CONTINUE TO INTERVENE IN UKRAINE'S

AFFAIRS."

So far, President Putin refuses to back down. Return to index of stories...

5:32 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
