5:02 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Increasing rain chances"

After several days of nothing but sunshine and warm weather, changes are just around the corner as we track a developing storm system in the Gulf of Mexico. This will enhance our rainfall potential as we head into the Thursday time frame.

Patchy dense fog will be a concern once again this morning as winds have stayed light and humidity remains high. Visibilities could drop as low as 1/2 of a mile, especially in those fog prone areas, just around sunrise. Temperatures will also start off mild with most of in the lower to middle 60s, with a few upper 50s across our inland communities. Mostly sunny skies will prevail through the mid day hours, with more clouds developing through the afternoon. Daytime highs will stay nice and warm as they max out in the lower to middle 80s. Right at the coast, expect temperatures a few degrees cooler in the upper 70s. While most of us will end up dry, we have about a 30% chance for a few isolated showers. With an onshore wind today, any rain that develops will aim toward areas east of the interstate.

Tonight, clouds will increase and temperatures will lower into the middle 60s.

As an area of low pressure evolves and tracks east across the northern gulf, our skies will become mostly cloudy tomorrow with the threat for scattered showers and a few stronger storms. Despite the rain, temperatures will manage to climb into the upper 70s to 80°, however once the rain ends from west to east overnight, cooler and drier weather will move in across Southwest Florida. Clouds will linger through the early morning hours on Friday with more sunshine breaking out during the day. By Saturday morning, we're looking at temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s. The weekend looks fantastic with lots of sunshine, comfortable humidity, and highs near 80°. Return to index of stories...

WHEN IT'S TIME TO SLEEP.A CRYING BABY ISN'T GOOD FOR YOU OR THE CHILD.

SO MANY PEOPLE USE SOUND MACHINES TO SOOTHE THEIR LITTLE ONES.

BUT A NEW STUDY SAYS SOME OF THESE MACHINES MIGHT BE HURTING THE EARS OF OUR KIDS IF THEY ARE TURNED UP TOO LOUD OR PLACED TOO CLOSE TO THEIR HEADS WHILE THEY SLEEP.

A NEW STUDY PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL, PEDIATRICS SAYS IF THEY ARE TURNED UP TOO LOUD -- OR PLACED TO CLOSE TO A CHILD'S HEAD WHILE THEY SLEEP -- THEY CAN CAUSE HEARING PROBLEMS.

THE STUDY TESTED 14 SOUND MACHINES AT MAXIMUM VOLUME WHICH THEY SAY ARE WIDELY AVAILABLE IN OUR COUNTRY.

OF THOSE -- THREE OF THE MACHINES WERE ABLE TO PRODUCE SOUNDS SO LOUD AND INTENSE THEY WERE GREATER THAN OCCUPATIONAL NOISE LIMITS -- MEANING THAT LEVEL OF NOISE IS NOT SAFE LEVELS FOR ADULTS EITHER.

HERE'S BOTTOM LINE:

EXPERTS SAY KEEP THE MACHINES OUT OF THE CRIB.BECAUSE CLOSER NOISES SOUND LOUDER TO THE DEVELOPING AUDITORY SYSTEM.

5:32 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
