STORMY AFTERNOON ON THE WAY

Even though it is dry across Southwest Florida this morning, go ahead and grab the rain jacket before you leave for work. There are storms headed toward our area. A powerful storm system will bring a cold front across the state. That front will bring showers and storms starting by late morning near Sarasota County. Pushing into Charlotte County during the lunch hour. Then continuing to push through Southwest Florida through about 6-7 pm. There will still be a few lingering showers behind this system, but that is the timing of the line of strong storms. Some of these storms will be strong to possibly severe. Be prepared for heavy rain, gusty winds, lots of thunder and lightning along with the possibility of hail. Highs will be in the lower 80s by midday before the storms roll into the area.

The storm system exits quickly tonight, but some clouds will remain as lows drop into the low to mid 60s. Cooler air will rush in behind the system, with highs on Friday only reaching into the mid 70s.

And.how's this for timing? The weekend still looks beautiful across the region. Expect plenty of sun both days, with highs near 80 both Saturday and Sunday.

The quiet weather will continue into next week. We'll see partly cloudy skies Monday and Tuesday, with warmer highs in the low to mid 80s.

Another storm system arrives midweek, which will bring more cloud cover and possibly a few showers. Return to index of stories...

RIGHT HERE IN FLORIDA, WE HAVE A MEASURE THAT WILL APPEAR ON THE BALLOT THIS YEAR FOR *MEDICAL MARIJUANA.

WE'RE SURE TO HEAR A LOT MORE ABOUT THAT STORY IN THE COMING MONTHS.

TURNING NOW TO POSSIBLE WEATHER HAPPENING AROUND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

FIRST ALERT STORM TEAM METEOROLOGIST JIM REIF HERE NOW TO GIVE US THE FORECAST.

HE'S GOING TO WEAR THE GOOGLE GLASS WHILE HE TRACKS THE STORMS. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

NINE OUT OF TEN PEOPLE WILL EXPERIENCE SOME DEGREE OF PAIN OR STIFFNESS IN THEIR BACK- AND MANY ARE LOOKING BEYOND MEDICATION FOR RELIEF.

IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS AMY OSHIER SHOWS US HOW RADIO FREQUENCY IS BEING USED. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

PKG:

BACK PAIN: A TROUBLESOME CONDITION FOR MILLIONS OF AMERICANS. FOR

SOME IT'S A PASSING PAIN- FOR OTHERS THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RELIEF.

EITHER WAY IT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON REASONS PEOPLE VISIT THE

DOCTOR.

DR. ANDREW GROSS/INTERVENTIONAL PAIN SPECIALIST

RUNS:

3:18 Where pain seems to generate the most from are generally age dependent. Also

how athletic they are, what type of work they do. 4:38 Low back pain tends to be the

most pain complaint that we see.

WHEN BACK PAIN BECOMES A CHRONIC CONDITION- MANY PATIENTS ARE

MOVING ON TO A 'NERVE NUMBING' PROCEDURE. CALLED RADIO FREQUENCY

ABLATION- THE TECHNIQUE USES HEAT TO ZAP THE OFFENDING NERVES.

DR. ANDREW GROSS/INTERVENTIONAL PAIN SPECIALIST

RUNS:

34 They really are only sensory nerves. So they only sense pain or inflammation in the

joint area. And you can get very specific by blocking those nerves and actually directing

a very small needle with a hallowed out tip and it has a probe that vibrates with a radio

frequency current and creates an illusion of the nerve and it burns it.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Using radio frequency to block nerves can be a game-changer, especially for people

who are caught in the middle- between drug treatments that no longer work and going

all in on back surgery. The trade-off, is these nerves grow back in time.

DR. ANDREW GROSS/INTERVENTIONAL PAIN SPECIALIST

RUNS:

1:19 Nerves generally have a set rate of how they grow back. And so what we've

discovered is it makes a difference how big of a lesion you can make in the nerve,

sometimes it will take a lot longer to grow back. 1:41 Ideally forever would be nice.

THE END GAME IS TO USE RADIO FREQUENCY TO DISABLE NERVES, SO PAIN

WON'T DISABLE YOUR LIFE. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY

OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

FIRM ONLY REPRESENTS MEN-trxONCAM

THE ONLY LAW FIRM IN SOUTH FLORIDA THAT'LL "ONLY" REPRESENT MEN!

SOME CALL IT SEXIST -- OTHERS HAVE EVEN SAID THEY DISCRIMINATE - BUT AS BRIAN ENTIN SHOWS US -- THE LAWYERS SAY IT'S THE ONLY WAY MEN CAN GET A FAIR SHAKE WHEN IT COMES TO DIVORCE. Return to index of stories...

FIRM ONLY REPRESENTS MEN-PKG

MAYBE YOU'VE SEEN THEIR NEW BILLBOARD.

"It is pretty clear that the firm is focused on mens rights only and we would only represent a man."

"A lot of courts have leaned toward the mother. And it is not supposed to be that way. Fathers want a fair shake."

TEMI ZEITENBERG AND STEFANI NOLAN ARE ATTORNEYS FOR KENNY LEIGH AND ASSOCIATES. ALL THEIR CLIENTS ARE MEN. NO WOMEN ALLOWED.

"Sometimes we get a mixed reaction when we tell people. Some people think it is discriminatory or that we dislike women which is absolutely not the case."

THE WOMEN SAY THE FIRM IS CRITICAL BECAUSE DADS OFTEN HAVE A MORE DIFFICULT TIME GETTING EQUAL TIME WITH THEIR KIDS AFTER A DIVORCE.

"To them if they have every other weekend that is hurtful. Why should someone say you can only see your child every other weekend but mom gets to have him the rest of the time."

AND THEY SAY IN THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE -- MEN ALSO AREN'T ALWAYS TREATED FAIRLY WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY.

"Women can pay men alimony too. It doesn't just have to be one sided."

DESPITE REPRESENTING "ONLY" MEN -- THESE ATTORNEYS SAY THEY DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO THINK LIKE A MAN.

"I think it is comforting for a man to know that I as a woman can see or envision what their wife or the mother of their child may be thinking. And help them understand how we can steer their case in their favor but not go too far. When we started I thought it was just going to be me and the other attorney trucking along."

THE FIRM IS SO BUSY THEY'RE BUILDING A BIGGER OFFICE IN BOCA.

THEY SAY MEN NEED THEM MORE THAN EVER.

"If there wasn't unfairness in the legal system we wouldn't have an all men firm. Obviously during the years the unfairness has shown toward men." Return to index of stories...
