FIRST WX-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

STORMY AFTERNOON ON THE WAY

Even though it is dry across Southwest Florida this morning, go ahead and grab the rain jacket before you leave for work. There are storms headed toward our area. A powerful storm system will bring a cold front across the state. That front will bring showers and storms starting by late morning near Sarasota County. Pushing into Charlotte County during the lunch hour. Then continuing to push through Southwest Florida through about 6-7 pm. There will still be a few lingering showers behind this system, but that is the timing of the line of strong storms. Some of these storms will be strong to possibly severe. Be prepared for heavy rain, gusty winds, lots of thunder and lightning along with the possibility of hail. Highs will be in the lower 80s by midday before the storms roll into the area.

The storm system exits quickly tonight, but some clouds will remain as lows drop into the low to mid 60s. Cooler air will rush in behind the system, with highs on Friday only reaching into the mid 70s.

And.how's this for timing? The weekend still looks beautiful across the region. Expect plenty of sun both days, with highs near 80 both Saturday and Sunday.

The quiet weather will continue into next week. We'll see partly cloudy skies Monday and Tuesday, with warmer highs in the low to mid 80s.

Another storm system arrives midweek, which will bring more cloud cover and possibly a few showers. Return to index of stories...

BEAMS INTO TRUCK-PKG

THIS IS THE LAST THING JACK PHILLIPS EXPECTED TO BE DOING TONIGHT. CLEANING OUT THE CAB OF HIS TRUCK. BUT HE HAD NO CHOICE AFTER AN ACCIDENT YOU HAVE TO SEE TO BELIEVE.

"All the police officers said I need to buy them lottery tickets so yeah, I was very fortunate, very fortunate today."

THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT. PHILLIPS WAS DRIVING THIS 18-WHEELER WHEN ANOTHER TRUCKER CUT HIM OFF.

"His trailer took out my left front fender, my rearview mirror."

IF ONLY THAT WAS THE WORST OF IT. PHILLIPS WAS FORCED TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES CAUSING 30,000 POUNDS OF STEEL TO SHIFT ON HIS TRAILER.

"I didn't know what to do other than duck my head and hope for the best."

STEEL BEAMS CAME BARRELING INTO THE BACK OF THE CAB.

"It went right past my head. Right past it. Inches past my head. So yeah, i was very lucky. If you look in the cab the only place that's not crumbled is my seat and steering wheel. The dash is gone, everything is gone. I was just very lucky.

LUCKY IS CERTAINLY ONE WAY TO DESCRIBE IT. IF YOU ASK THE OFFICERS ON SCENE.

"It's absolutely amazing that he came out unscathed. Absolutely amazing."

AM AMAZING STORY OF SURVIVAL THAT JACK PHILLIPS WILL BE SHARING FOR SOMETIME.

"Maybe it hasn't sunk in yet but at this point Im just thankful I'm more sad about my truck." Return to index of stories...

MARK JOHNSTON FLEW INTO LAS VEGAS SUPERBOWL WEEKEND AND ACCORDING TO THE LAWSUIT HE FILED HE WAS READY TO PARTY. ACCORDING TO THE COMPLAINT, HE HAD A FEW TOO MANY DRINKS AT THE AIRPORT AND WHEN HE ARRIVED IN VEGAS HE HAD A DRINK ON THE RIDE TO THE DOWNTOWN GRAND. WHEN HE GOT THERE, HE SAYS THINGS GOT BAD.

"And we ate at Triple George's and after that, I don't remember anything until Super Bowl Night."

A BLACKOUT THAT MAY COST HIM $500,000. WHEN PEOPLE STARTED TO FILL HIM IN ON WHAT HAPPENED JOHNSTON FOUND OUT HE BORROWED $500 GRAND FROM THE GRAND AND LOST IT.

"I feel like they picked my pockets. I feel like they totally took advantage of a drunk guy. Its like walking down the street and the drunk guy is walking down the street and you just go ahead and reach and grab his pocket and steal all his money."

"The Downtown Grand took advantage of Mr. Johnson.

SHAWN LIGHT IS JOHNSTON'S ATTORNEY AND THEIR CLAIM IS JOHNSTON WAS SO DRUNK BEFORE STARTING TO GAMBLE THE DOWNTOWN GRAND SHOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED IT. GAMING REGULATIONS DO STIPULATE THAT THE CASINO CAN BE DISCIPLINED FOR BOTH ALLOWING A VISIBLE DRUNK PERSON TO GAMBLE AND PROVIDING COMP DRINKS TO A VISIBLY DRUNK PERSON.

"And you certainly aren't to issue a half of a million dollars in marks to someone who is obviously intoxicated."

JOHNSTON ADMITTED HE PROBABLY WILL NOT BE GETTING ANY SYMPATHY FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALSO GAMBLED WHILE DRUNK AND LOST BUT HE FEELS CHEATED.

"They should have cut me off from drinking. Bottom line is the casinos are not suppose to gamble to you and not over serve you in alcohol. That's gaming regulation.

JENNIFER JENSEN REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

BARBIE ASSAULT-PKG

YOU COULD SAY GREGORY SCHWARTZ'S APPEARANCE IN COURT IS QUITE DIFFERENT THAN HOW HIS VICTIM SAYS HE WAS DRESSED INSIDE THIS BIG LOTS STORE.

HERE, HE'S SHACKLED AT THE WAIST - IN A JAILHOUSE JUMPSUIT.

A MORE MASCULINE LOOK THAN LAST FRIDAY NIGHT.

It was eerie, it was sick he was waiting in there for somebody.

THE VICTIM HE ENCOUNTERED DIDN'T WANT TO SHOW HER FACE ON CAMERA - BUT TOLD 10NEWS WHEN HE ATTACKED HER, HE WAS WEARING A BARBIE OUTFIT, SIMILAR TO THIS ONE.

As I was looking and I saw two feet slowly planting on the floor and they were a man's bare feet and at that point I was just like I gotta get out of here.

THE SAME FEET - NOW IN SOCKS AND SANDALS - STANDING ON THE ORANGE COURTROOM TAPE.

He went underneath the stall really quickly and then he came into my stall and the door was still locked I didn't even have time to act. He grabbed my neck and he pushed me all the way against the wall and he started squeezing my neck and I start yelling from the top of my lungs and then he covered my mouth and he was like shhhh.

SHE SAYS SHE SCREAMED AND FOUGHT HIM OFF.

HE RAN OUT OF THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM THEN OUT OF THE STORE. WITH A COUPLE OF EMPLOYEES RUNNING AFTER HIM.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL
