Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

STORMY AFTERNOON ON THE WAY

Even though it is dry across Southwest Florida this morning, go ahead and grab the rain jacket before you leave for work. There are storms headed toward our area. A powerful storm system will bring a cold front across the state. That front will bring showers and storms starting by late morning near Sarasota County. Pushing into Charlotte County during the lunch hour. Then continuing to push through Southwest Florida through about 6-7 pm. There will still be a few lingering showers behind this system, but that is the timing of the line of strong storms. Some of these storms will be strong to possibly severe. Be prepared for heavy rain, gusty winds, lots of thunder and lightning along with the possibility of hail. Highs will be in the lower 80s by midday before the storms roll into the area.

The storm system exits quickly tonight, but some clouds will remain as lows drop into the low to mid 60s. Cooler air will rush in behind the system, with highs on Friday only reaching into the mid 70s.

And.how's this for timing? The weekend still looks beautiful across the region. Expect plenty of sun both days, with highs near 80 both Saturday and Sunday.

The quiet weather will continue into next week. We'll see partly cloudy skies Monday and Tuesday, with warmer highs in the low to mid 80s.

Another storm system arrives midweek, which will bring more cloud cover and possibly a few showers. Return to index of stories...

5:32 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
