FIRST WEATHER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

QUIETER WEATHER FOR FRIDAY

It was a very stormy Thursday across Southwest Florida, as a powerful storm system lifted northeastward out of the Gulf. The severe weather threat is over, but rain showers will continue this evening, with temps holding in the 60s. The rain will clear out overnight, with lows in the mid 60s.

Our storm system exits Friday, resulting in quieter weather. We'll keep some cloud cover around, with more sun expected late in the day. Cooler air will also move in, with highs only in the mid 70s.

The weekend remains in great shape. We'll see a heavy dose of sun and low humidity both Saturday and Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 70s, with temps on Sunday in the low 80s. It will crisp in the morning, with lows both days in the 50s.

The nice weather looks to continue into next week. Mostly sunny skies will prevail Monday, with highs in the low 80s.

A few more clouds return Tuesday, with highs in the low to mid 80s.

It still looks like our next storm system will arrive midweek, bringing a good chance of showers across the area. Another round of cooler weather is now expected to close next week. Return to index of stories...

KOMEN OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SAYS IT'S BEEN A BIG PROBLEM EVER SINCE ORAL CHEMO BECAME MORE POPULAR.

WE CHECKED WITH THE MOFFITT CANCER CENTER IN TAMPA - THEY STARTED USING ORAL CHEMO TO TREAT PATIENTS IN 2004.

ORAL CHEMO IS EASIER IN MANY WAYS.MOSTLY BECAUSE IT CAN BE TAKEN AT HOME OUT OF A DOCTOR'S OFFICE.

MARSHA GOLDFINE.KOMEN'S PUBLIC POLICY CHAIRPERSON.SAYS IN SOME CASES.PEOPLE WERE HAVING TO PAY AS MUCH AS TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH FOR CERTAIN ORAL CHEMO DRUGS WHEN THE I-V VERSION WOULD COST AS LITTLE AS 50 DOLLARS A MONTH.

BENAQUISTO WOULD GO ON TO CO-AUTHOR THE BILL.

GOLDFINE TELL US THIS IS GREAT NEWS FOR EVERYONE IN FLORIDA WHO HAS NOT ONLY BREAST CANCER.BUT ALL FORMS OF THE DISEASE.

It bankrupts families if you want to stay alive

When anything is new, there's always resistance. And it takes time and it takes energy, and Komen was the time and the energy. Because we all believed there had to be alternatives

THE LAW GOES INTO EFFECT JULY FIRST.

KOMEN IS STILL WORKING TO FIGURE OUT IN GENERAL HOW MUCH ORAL CHEMO WOULD COST A PATIENT PER MONTH.

Today's move by the Crimean parliament is seen as another step here towards the formal annexation of Crimea by Russia.

The Crimean parliament voted to join up with Russia and to have this decision endorsed by a referendum just ten days from now.

This was denounced by Ukraine as illegal and denounced by the Europeans as illegal.

"What has happened with respect to the Crimea is unacceptable and there can be no business as usual with Russia."

It's come as a real shock here, enflaming passions.

"Crimea is part of Ukraine. Crimea is Ukraine. And we support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and the government of Ukraine needs to be involved in any kind of decision with respect to any part of Ukraine."

Leaders here in Kiev are looking to Europe, looking to the States to see how they respond to this stepping up of the pressure from Russia.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL
