QUIETER WEATHER FOR FRIDAY

It was a very stormy Thursday across Southwest Florida, as a powerful storm system lifted northeastward out of the Gulf. The severe weather threat is over, but rain showers will continue this evening, with temps holding in the 60s. The rain will clear out overnight, with lows in the mid 60s.

Our storm system exits Friday, resulting in quieter weather. We'll keep some cloud cover around, with more sun expected late in the day. Cooler air will also move in, with highs only in the mid 70s.

The weekend remains in great shape. We'll see a heavy dose of sun and low humidity both Saturday and Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 70s, with temps on Sunday in the low 80s. It will crisp in the morning, with lows both days in the 50s.

The nice weather looks to continue into next week. Mostly sunny skies will prevail Monday, with highs in the low 80s.

A few more clouds return Tuesday, with highs in the low to mid 80s.

It still looks like our next storm system will arrive midweek, bringing a good chance of showers across the area. Another round of cooler weather is now expected to close next week. Return to index of stories...

BACKLASH OVER AIRLINE MILES-PKG

AIRLINE REWARD PROGRAMS ARE ALREADY HAVING A CRISIS OF CREDIBILITY.

A SURVEY BY MILECARDS-DOT-COM FOUND MOST TRAVELERS TRUST THEIR. BANK, CABLE AND TELEPHONE COMPANIES. MORE THAN THEY TRUST THEIR AIRLINE REWARD PROGRAM.

SO, CHANGES MAKING IT HARDER TO EARN. AND REDEEM AIR MILES, ARE GETTING A CHILLY RECEPTION.

"This could really, really nix earning value for the leisure traveler."

OTHER AIRLINES ARE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW DELTA'S DECISION TO CHANGE THE WAY YOU EARN MILES. BASED ON HOW MUCH YOU SPEND. RATHER THAN HOW FAR YOU FLY.

THAT'S WHY TRAVEL EXPERTS SUGGEST YOU BEGIN FIGURING OUT NOW.OTHER WAYS TO EARN.

"Reward programs aren't just about earning miles anymore. It's about earning dollars you can spend on airlines, hotels and many other things."

THAT MEANS CREDIT CARDS.OR TRAVEL WEBSITES THAT OFFER LOYALTY REWARDS. CAN BE MORE EFFECTIVE AT ACCUMULATING POINTS. AND AREN'T AS RESTRICTIVE AS AIR MILES.

"You don't have blackout dates. You're able to use your rewards to book hotels anytime of year."

THEY ALSO SAY CONSIDER REDEEMING MILES FOR MORE THAN JUST FLYING.

"Airlines are also making it easier to redeem for hotel stays and gift cards so, even if you don't want to redeem for flights there are still ways to maximize your miles."

THE POINTS GUY, BRIAN KELLY. SAYS THESE CHANGES MEAN AIR MILES ARE GOING TO LOSE VALUE QUICKER THAN EVER NOW.

WEATHER-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A-D-H-D CONTINUES TO BE A GROWING PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY.

FITNESS COACH, LIFE COACH- FATHER OF ONE. RALPH QUILLEN IS FAMILIAR

WITH ADHD.

RALPH QUILLEN/DAD

RUNS:

33 I think most parents are aware of the problem. 2:01 I've coached for twelve years and

I've seen a progression in it over the years.

THERE IS CONFUSION AND MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT WHAT IT IS AND HOW YOU TREAT

IT.

DR. ELENA REYES/CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

RUNS:

:49 The reality is, the research shows it's not so much the motoric behavior but rather

the attention deficits that are the hallmark of this disorder.

MEANING KIDS AREN'T ABLE TO PLAN AND EXECUTE EVERYDAY TASKS. IT'S

NOW ESTIMATED 1 IN 10 CHILDREN IN THE U.S. -1 IN 5 TEENAGE BOYS- ARE

DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD. AND 3.5 MILLION YOUNGSTERS ARE TAKING AN

ADHD DRUG. SOMETHING DOCTORS SAY CAN BE A GAME-CHANGER.

DR. ELENA REYES/CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

RUNS:

12:20 Medication is often needed to allow for the child to be able to focus. We've got

good research that shows children who are appropriately diagnosed and appropriately

treated with medication can do very well.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Medication may be the most talked about ADHD treatment, but not the only one.

Behavior management- actually working on impulse control can be successful- provided

parents buy in

DR. ELENA REYES/CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

RUNS:

9:07: We train the student about how to organize themselves, how to stop how to think,

how to be able to manage their work and their behavior. That usually is associated with

parent management also. If a child can't structure themselves how can you as a parent

structure them so they can be successful.

RALPH SEES THE STRUCTURE, REQUIRED IN SPORTS, MAKES AN IMPACT.

RALPH QUILLEN/DAD

RUNS:

2:12: I see more kids that are medicated through high school these days then when I first

started coaching. 2:28 As an athlete, sports is more of an outlet- so it actually helps them.

THE END-GAME IS THE SAME: HELPING KIDS FIND THEIR FOCUS. FOR LEE MEMORIAL

A CANADIAN COUPLE EXPERIENCED FIRSTHAND THE DANGER OF DISTRACTED DRIVING - AND THEY CAUGHT IT ON VIDEO.

-REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

IT WAS A SUNNY DAY. THE ROADS WERE CLEAR.

RALPH IRELAND AND HIS WIFE IFKA FALIPOVICH WERE DRIVING TO THEIR NORTHERN ONTARIO HOME FROM A BUSINESS TRIP IN WINNIPEG.

"I was going along with the traffic, there was a car ahead of me and a car behind me."

THEY WERE NEAR KENORA, HEADING EAST ALONG HIGHWAY 17.

"The driver is listening to the radio, tune on the radio, nice driving song."

IRELAND HAD BOUGHT THE CAMERA MOUNTED ON HIS DASH TO CATCH ANYONE WHO MIGHT BREAK INTO HIS TRUCK.

LITTLE DID HE KNOW WHAT THAT DASH CAM WOULD CAPTURE.

"And all of a sudden, bam, there it is."

HERE IT COMES.

"Oh no!"

THE OTHER DRIVER WAS CHARGED WITH FAILING TO YIELD TO TRAFFIC.

AFTER A TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL, IRELAND AND HIS WIFE ASSESSED THE DAMAGE.

"You okay?"

"Oh my God! I'm hurt, but I'm all right."

THEIR TRUCK WAS SMASHED, THEIR CAMERA WAS SMASHED BUT THEIR MEMORY CARD WAS INTACT.

AND WHEN THEY SHARED THE VIDEO WITH FRIENDS, ONE OF THEM POINTED SOMETHING OUT.

"Everybody okay? I am so sorry. That was totally my fault."

NOT ONLY WAS IT HIS FAULT, BUT LOOK AT THIS.

"It definitely looks like he was on his cell phone and it definitely looks like he's looking down, he's not looking out toward us, he's not even looking out the front windshield."

Reporter Standup: The video surfaced just as police announced that the leading cause of death on Ontario roads last year. It wasn't impaired driving or speeding.it was distracted driving.

SOON, POLICE HAD THE VIDEO AS WELL.

"This is a classic example of how an investigation can turn on a dime."

BECAUSE A PICTURE PAINTS A THOUSAND WORDS.AND THIS ONE SENDS A POWERFUL MESSAGE.

If you're driving drive and if you need to talk on a cell phone, pull over and stop. If you need to change the channel on the radio, just pull over and stop because it's just not worth it."
