OFF THE COAST OF VIETNAM, TWO FUEL SLICKS ON THE WATER MAY PROVIDE THE BEST HOPE FOR FINDING MALAYSIA AIRLINES FLIGHT 370.

THE PLANE LEFT KUALA LUMPUR AT 12:40am SATURDAY, THE RED-EYE FLIGHT TO BEIJING WITH 239 PASSENGERS AND CREW.

BUT 1-2 hours INTO THE FLIGHT, AT 35-thousand FEET, AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS LOST CONTACT WITH THE PLANE SOMEWHERE OVER THE GULF OF THAILAND.

"Whatever happened was catastrophic and incapacitated the airplane such that the crew couldn't get a mayday call off."

WE DO KNOW THE CAPTAIN WAS EXPERIENCED.

ZAHARIE AHMAD SHAH WAS 53-years old, WITH 18-thousand HOURS OF FLYING TIME.

.WHEN HE WASN'T IN A REAL COCKPIT, YOU COULD FIND HIM IN THE ADVANCED SIMULATOR HE'D BUILT AT HOME.

".time to take to the next level of simulation. Motion! looking for buddies to share this passion."

THE FIRST OFFICER, WAS 27-year-old Fariq Hamid, WITH 2,800 HOURS OF EXPERIENCE.

ADDING TO THE MYSTERY: TWO EUROPEANS ON THE PASSENGER MANIFEST, AN AUSTRIAN AND ITALIAN, ARE ACTUALLY SAFE AND SOUND ON THE GROUND.

BOTH HAD REPORTED THEIR PASSPORTS STOLEN IN THAILAND 1-2 YEARS AGO.

U.S. and MALAYSIAN AUTHORITIES ARE NOW LOOKING INTO WHO USED THOSE STOLEN PASSPORTS TO BOARD THE PLANE.AND WHAT WERE THEY UP TO.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

The stage is set for another gorgeous weekend across Southwest Florida with full sunshine and low humidity all weekend long.

Temperatures managed to drop all the way into the 40s to start our Saturday morning, but we'll see a nice warm up through the day with low 70s expected by noon and mid 70s for those daytime highs.

With the air becoming so dry today, rain won't be in the forecast whatsoever, and we'll stay dry Sunday as well.

After what ended up being a very breezy Friday, winds relax substantially today with a northeasterly breeze only around 5-10 mph.

Another cool night is on tap tonight, but instead of cooling into the 40s, most of us will only drop into the mid 50s. The exception will be our inland communities where temperatures may come close to the upper 40s by sunrise Sunday.

We're on track to see another beautiful day tomorrow. The only difference is temperatures will be a touch warmer with highs climbing into the low 80s by the afternoon.

The warmth and humidity gradually make a comeback as we start the week. Monday and Tuesday will be a bit warmer with highs aimed for the mid 80s along with some more patchy clouds mixed with sunshine.

The next chance for showers comes Wednesday as another cool front moves through Southwest Florida, which will send another batch of cooler weather for the second half of the week.
