MALAYSIA AIRLINES PLANE-PLASMA

THE SEARCH CONTINUED TODAY FOR A MALAYSIAN AIRLINES JET THAT WENT MISSING ON ITS WAY TO BEIJING.

MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE, INCLUDING THREE AMERICANS, WERE ONBOARD THE FLIGHT WHEN IT LOST CONTACT WITH AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS.

AUTHORITIES SAY TWO PEOPLE WHO WERE LISTED ON THE FLIGHT MANIFEST - TELL THEM, THEIR PASSPORTS WERE STOLEN.

N-B-C'S DUNCAN GOLESTANI HAS MORE FROM LONDON. Return to index of stories...

MALAYSIA AIRLINES PLANE-PKG-WIPE

TWO PASSENGERS LISTED AS BEING ON-BOARD THE MALAYSIAN AIRLINES FLIGHT ARE IN FACT SAFE AND WELL AND AT LEAST ONE OF THEM HAD REPORTED THEIR PASSPORT STOLEN.

AN AUSTRIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMAN CONFIRMED THAT ONE OF THEIR CITIZENS HAD BEEN LISTED AS BEING ON THAT MALAYSIAN AIRLINES FLIGHT TO BEIJING, BUT THEIR SYSTEM CAME BACK AS TELLING THEM IT WAS A STOLEN PASSPORT.

THEY FOUND THE MAN AT HOME AND HE CONFIRMED HE HAD REPORTED IT STOLEN IN THAILAND TWO YEARS AGO.

A VERY SIMILAR SITUATION IN ITALY: THE FOREIGN MINISTRY IN ROME SAYING NO ITALIAN WAS ON BOARD DESPITE ONE BEING LISTED ON THE MANIFEST.

AS FOR THE SEARCH FOR THE PLANE AND ANY POTENTIAL WRECKAGE, MANY COUNTRIES IN THE AREA, AND THE UNITED STATES, ARE SENDING SHIPS AND PLANES TO HELP IN THE SEARCH.

WE KNOW FROM PREVIOUS PLANES LOST OVER WATER THAT TRACKING THE WRECKAGE CAN TAKE DAYS AND LOCATING AND RECOVERING THE FLIGHT RECORDERS COULD TAKE MONTHS OR EVEN YEARS.

"No news, no nothing, so still waiting after more than 12 hours, still no news, so a bit worried."

VIETNAMESE AIR FORCE PLANES HAVE APPARENTLY SPOTTED TWO LARGE OIL SLICKS IN THE AREA, OFF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF VIETNAM.

EACH OF THOSE SLICKS ABOUT 6 MILES WIDE, BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT HAS COME FROM THAT MALAYSIAN AIRLINES FLIGHT.

THE SEARCH IS HAMPERED BY IT BEING THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT THERE NOW, WE MIGHT NOT GET MUCH MORE UNTIL DAYLIGHT TOMORROW.

BACK TO YOU. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST OPEN-CLIP

Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

After a gorgeous sunny Saturday across Southwest Florida, we're on track to see a quiet and cool night.

Temperatures will get down to the mid 50s along the urban corridor, and a few of our inland cold spots like Palmdale and Arcadia will drop all the way down to the upper 40s.

We're set to see another beautiful day tomorrow. The only difference is temperatures will be a touch warmer with highs climbing into the low 80s by the afternoon.

Our winds will be light out of the east from 5-10 mph, and humidity levels will stay nice and comfortable.

If you're planning on heading out to Fort Myers Beach for the Shrimp Festival, expect a clear and sunny day with highs in the upper 70s. The forecast also looks great for the boaters and beach goers with seas only at 1-2 feet and the Gulf water temperature at 71 degrees.

The warmth and humidity gradually make a comeback as we start the week. Monday and Tuesday will be a bit warmer with highs aimed for the mid 80s along with some more patchy clouds mixed with sunshine.

The next chance for showers comes Wednesday as another cool front moves through Southwest Florida, which will send another batch of cooler weather for the second half of the week.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
