FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Warm and dry to start to the week"

It was a picture perfect weekend across Southwest Florida, with cool mornings and warmer afternoons. Our stretch of dry weather will continue for the next couple of days, before showers make a return to the area by Wednesday.

After a few patchy mid and high level clouds this morning, mostly sunny skies will dominate the forecast. Expect daytime highs to be warm again this afternoon. Away from the coast, expect thermometer readings in the lower half of the 80s, while beaches and coastal locations are a few degrees cooler due to the gulf breeze.

Temperatures will be even milder tonight, as they settle into the lower 60s area wide. We'll even see the potential for another round of patchy fog by dawn on Tuesday.

Our mainly dry weather pattern will hold in place through Tuesday. High pressure will keep our skies partly sunny with afternoon temperatures in the lower to middle 80s. Rain prospects will remain less than 10%. By mid week, we'll be tracking another system evolving in the Gulf of Mexico. This will throw more cloud cover across the region on Wednesday with scattered showers and a few storms. As the cold front passes by late Wednesday, cooler and drier weather will return in its wake. Daytime highs will return to the middle and upper 70s, with morning lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. This will set the stage for another delightful weekend with more sunshine and comfortable humidity values. Return to index of stories...

IN FACT, AS HE WAS LISTENING TO GRAPHIC, DISTURBING TESTIMONY THIS MORNING FROM THE PATHOLOGIST WHO CONDUCTED THE AUTOPSY ON REEVA'S BODY, HE BECAME VIOLENTLY ILL, THROWING UP INTO A BUCKET IN THE COURTROOM.

IN FACT IT CREATED SUCH A SCENE THAT THE JUDGE ACTUALLY HAD TO STOP THE TRIAL FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO MAKE SURE THAT OSCAR WAS O-K.

THE TESTIMONY NOW BACK IN SESSION AND THE JUDGE HAS ACTUALLY EVEN ORDERED A MEDIA BLACKOUT - NO AUDIO FEED, NO VIDEO FEED - WHICH WE USUALLY GET FROM THE TRIAL - DURING THIS TESTIMONY FROM THE PATHOLOGIST OUT OF RESPECT FOR REEVA STEENKAMP'S FAMILY.

BECAUSE APPARENTLY IT IS INCREDIBLY GRAPHIC ABOUT THE CONDITION OF HER BODY POST DEATH DURING THE AUTOPSY.

"And so we are continuing to watch all of the developments from here in Pretoria. Jeff Rossen, NBC News, Pretoria, South Africa." Return to index of stories...

SMARTPHONE HOME-PKG

WELCOME. TO THE HOME. OF THE FUTURE…

CELL PHONE. LIGHTS. ACTION -- FROM THE MOMENT YOU STEP OUT OF BED

Fly me to the moon

IN THIS HOUSE - EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED BY SMARTPHONE.

IT'S OWNED BY TECH ENTREPRENEUR MATT MULLENWEG, AN INVESTOR IN 'SMARTTHINGS,' THE COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE TECHNOLOGY.

Your home is smart - what can it do? How does it know you're awake?

It can sense it via motion or you can tell it good morning this case, one of the developers in the open community integrated a jawbone up - which is wearable and tracking your sleep patterns. I'll say good morning by hitting the button on the Jawbone "Up" then you can see the house kind of senses it, the lights are coming on in the background and now let's take a walk to the kitchen like I would when I wake up.

WALK INTO THE KITCHEN…

Good morning, Matt, Smartthings has started brewing the coffee for you.

And the coffee is actually brewing behind me.

TOUGH WORK COMMUTE? YOUR KITCHEN LAMP WILL TELL YOU.

GREEN MEANS NO TRAFFIC.

It senses that we're in the kitchen and we just woke up. In our platform, a developer's written an app where you put in your commute pattern and it checks the traffic and it will tell this lamp to change colors based on the timing of your commute.

YOUR HOME WILL TELL YOU THE FORECAST. BEFORE YOU STEP OUTSIDE.

JUST OPEN THE DOOR.

If I open the door it will play the weather report for the day over the kitchen speakers.

The current temperature is 53 degrees. Today's forecast is overcast with a chance of rain.

SMARTTHINGS MAKES USE OF A HUB THAT'S KIND OF LIKE A ROUTER. ONCE YOU'VE INSTALLED IT, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD DIFFERENT APPS ON THE SMARTTHINGS PLATFORM TO CONTROL DIFFERENT DEVICES.

Your home becomes programmable. In the same way you can put apps on your phone, you can install an app - what kind of coffee do you want to have brewed in the morning?

IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF SCIENCE FICTION.

BUT IT'S JUST PART OF THE MORNING ROUTINE FOR MATT.

What I see happening in sort of the connected home is that right now, there's expensive systems and that's all being radically democratized, where now you can use these little cheap devices, control it from your smartphone and there needs to be a platform for it; and SmartThings can be that platform.

THE TECH IS ALSO BEING USED TO PROTECT YOUR HOME.

SmartThings has detected someone in your home

TO WARN YOU ABOUT A LEAK.

Smartthings has detected water under the kitchen sink.

AND HERE'S A COOL ONE - YOUR CONNECTED HOME PLAYS YOUR MUSIC OF CHOICE WHEN YOU STEP INSIDE.

Fly me to the moon

IT'S PART OF A LARGER TREND OF TECHNOLOGY MOVING BEYOND YOUR SMARTPHONE.

It's almost like, when you look at the app, you're texting with your home.

We wanted to make it very intuitive so people are used to texting with each other. We give your home a voice. And you can say hello home, and goodnight home.

GOOD NIGHT, HOME.

FL SKYDIVER AX FOLO-VO TC MON

TWO MEN WALKED AWAY FROM A FRIGHTENING ACCIDENT IN CENTRAL FLORIDA.

AND THE IMAGES WERE CAPTURED IN AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHS.

CANDICE MCCOWAN REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

FL SKYDIVER AX FOLO-TRX PKG

THE PICTURES CAPTURE EVERY MOMENT. THIS SMALL CESSNA 170 JUST FEET ABOVE THE GROUND WHEN THE WING HITS A SKYDIVERS PARACHUTE. BOTH THE DIVER AND THE PLANE ARE THROWN AROUND BEFORE SLAMMING INTO THE GROUND.

At that moment nobody was giggling:11 it was very concerning at first whenever something like that happens:16 obviously you want to make sure everybody is okay.

THE PICTURES WERE CAPTURED BY TIM TELFORD WHO TAKES PICTURES OF THE MANY PEOPLE WHO VISIT SOUTH LAKELAND AIRPORT TO SKYDIVE DAILY SO THEY HAVE A SOUVENIR.

As the shutter is clicking away I realize that I am seeing something that is certainly spectacular.

I'm tickled to death that neither one of them was seriously injured.

PAUL FULLER SAYS HE WAS WATCHING HIS 87 YEAR OLD NEIGHBOR SHARON TREMBLEY THE PILOT OF THE PLANE AS IT HIT THE GROUND AND FELL APART.

He was probably doing 60 mph about 20 feet in the air when, slap.flipped him around and stuck the nose of his plane in the ground.

THE PLANE INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT WAS CLOSE TO THIS SIZE AND THEY DESIGNED TO COME APART IF THERE IS EVER A CRASH.

THE FAA, NTSB AND POLK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE ARE INVESTIGATING. THE SKYDIVER, 49 YEAR OLD JOHN FROST IS SAID TO BE A FREQUENT SKY DIVER. HE WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. TREMBLY, WHO HAS A LICENSE, SPENT SEVERAL HOURS IN THE HOSPITAL WHILE DOCTORS KEPT AN EYE ON THE 87 YEAR OLD. WHO IS TO BLAME? DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ASK.

The pilots, they know that we are jumping every weekend and they know there are parachutes in the air, they know to look out. Return to index of stories...
