THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

We are tracking some rain and clouds in the Gulf of Mexico moving this way tomorrow. Skies will become a little cloudy overnight as temperatures drop into the 60's after midnight. The forecast for tomorrow looks mainly cloudy with a few showers developing during the day. It still does not look like a complete wash-out for Wednesday, but plan on passing showers mainly in the afternoon and early evening. Temperatures should still manage to recover to the upper 70's or lower 80's during the day.

After the weather moves through, skies will clear out for Thursday and slightly cooler weather will be in place for a few days. Daytime highs will be in the lower 70's on Thursday with a chilly morning coming on Friday. Low temperatures will dip into the 40's on Friday morning.

The weekend weather still looks good as high pressure builds back over the state and plenty of sunshine returns. Highs will be in the 80's this weekend. Return to index of stories...

WE WERE OVER THE MALAKA STRAIT TODAY, WE JOINED THE SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION WITH ONE OF THE MALAYSIAN AIR FORCE AIRCRAFT AND WE SAW HOW INTENSE THAT SEARCH WAS.

WE SAW THE MALAYSIAN NAVY BELOW US SEARCHING AS WELL, AND THEY TOLD US THAT OVER THE EIGHT HOURS THAT WE WERE THERE, THAT THEY HAD CONTACT WITH SEVEN OTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE SAME AREA, SIMILARLY MAKING THIS PAIN-STAKING SEARCH.

"It's probably one of the largest search and rescue operations, but what was sombering for me is the large and massive area that we need to cover."

IN TERMS OF THE INVESTIGATION AS TO WHAT HAPPENED, WE NOW UNDERSTAND THAT THE MALAYSIAN AUTHORITIES BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED THE TWO MEN WITH STOLEN PASSPORTS.

MAYBE IT'S EMBARRASSMENT, MISCONCEPTIONS OR FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN. DOCTORS AREN'T SURE WHY MORE PEOPLE DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CANCER SCREENERS EVER- THE COLONOSCOPY.

DR. IRMA CRUZ/GASTROENTEROLOGIST

RUNS:

:34 Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in this country and it is one of the leading causes of cancer death. But doesn't have to be that way.

IT'S RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE FIFTY AND OLDER, YOUNGER WITH A FAMILY HISTORY- THE COLONOSCOPY IS A PAINLESS, IN-OFFICE PROCEDURE. IT ACTUALLY STARTS THE EVENING BEFORE WITH FASTING AND A COLON CLEANSE.

DR. IRMA CRUZ/GASTROENTEROLOGIST

RUNS:

2:14 It should be very clean so we can see.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Performed under sedation, doctors inspect the lining of the large intestine- which averages about 5 feet long. They enter through the rectum with a flexible scope that has a light and camera.

DR. IRMA CRUZ/GASTROENTEROLOGIST

RUNS:

3:42 Basically we're looking for polyps which are normal growths in the lining and we can remove them and this decreases the chances of getting colon cancer.

HERE'S WHAT DOCTORS SEE AS THEY MANEUVER THE SCOPE THROUGH THE COLON.

DEMO

RUNS:

1:07 There's several types of polyps. Some of them are flat like this. Some of them are pedunculated meaning they have a stock.

USING A SNARE- THEY SNIP THE POLYP- THIS IS A DEMO OF HOW IT'S DONE.

DEMO - colonoscopy tool

RUNS:

:37 We open the snare- we place it over the polyp. We close the snare and the polyp is removed.

THE GOAL IS TO NIP POLYPS IN THE BUD, BEFORE THEY BECOME DISEASED. COLONOSCOPY IS THE ONLY SCREENING TEST WITH THE ABILITY TO PREVENT CANCER.

DEMO

5:01 Still only 50 percent of people that should have colonoscopies actually have the procedure.

FORECAST-WXWALL

FL SPECIAL ELECTION-ONCAM

RIGHT NOW IN SAINT PETERSBURG VOTES ARE BEING CAST TO FILL AN EMPTY SEAT IN CONGRESS.

DISTRICT-13 HAS ATTRACTED 9-MILLION DOLLARS IN OUTSIDE MONEY.

IT'S GETTING NATIONAL ATTENTION BECAUSE THIS IS A *SWING DISTRICT.

EVENLY SPLIT BETWEEN REPUBLICANS. DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDANTS.

AS DANA BASH SHOWS EXPLAINS, HEALTHCARE IS THE HOT-BUTTON ISSUE. Return to index of stories...

FL SPECIAL ELECTION-PKG

IN THIS FRANTIC NECK AND NECK HOUSE SPECIAL ELECTION, EVERY VOTE REALLY DOES COUNT.

"This is Alex Sink and I'm a candidate for Congress and I'm just calling to ask for your support."

FOR DEMOCRATS - AN ALEX SINK VICTORY WOULD NOT JUST MEAN PICKING UP A GOP HOUSE SEAT, IT COULD ALSO GIVE OTHER DEMOCRATS IN NOVEMBER'S MID-TERM ELECTION A ROAD MAP TO BEAT BACK ATTACKS ON OBAMACARE: THE MESSAGE: DON'T END IT, FIX IT.

"My position is that we can't go back to where we were before, we've got to fix what's wrong with it. And certainly the rollout was bungled and botched up and the administration didn't do a very good job of the rollout."

SINK TALKS ABOUT SPECIFIC REFORMS - LIKE CHANGING THE REQUIREMENT FOR BUSINESSES WITH 50 EMPLOYEES TO PROVIDE HEALTH CARE.

"That 50 employee - kind of arbitrary limit - I think it's a totally arbitrary number."

FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS A 2014 MESSAGE TEST TOO - REPEALING OBAMCARE

"The voters have made Obamacare the number one issue."

SO HAVE OUTSIDE GROUPS.A WHOPPING 11 MILLION DOLLARS SPENT ON THIS RACE MOSTLY FROM THE OUTSIDE, MOSTLY ON TV ADS AND MUCH OF IT ABOUT OBAMACARE.

STILL GOP CANDIDATE DAVID JOLLY ARGUES REPUBLICANS SHOULD BE FOR SOLUTIONS TOO.

"It comes down to making sure that we are talking about how to solve some of the very specific problems that led us to Obamacare."

BUT THIS FLORIDA SPECIAL ELECTION IS A IMPORTANT BEYOND OBAMACARE.

THE FIRST TEST OF A SWING DISTRICT IN 2014 ABOUT 1/3 REGISTERED VOTERS ARE DEMOCRATS, 1/3 REPUBLICANS, AND NEARLY 1/3 INDEPENDENTS AND A VERY HIGH PERCENTAGE OF SENIORS - EVEN BY FLORIDA STANDARDS.

IT'S WHY THE REPUBLICAN BREAKS FROM HIS PARTY'S PROPOSED CHANGES TO THEIR BENEFIT Return to index of stories...
