A nice neighborhood nestled off US - 41 in North Fort Myers.

But Terry Swenson says there is plenty to be worried about.

Take sot

Swenson

After 4:00 it doesn't feel safe. I won't even walk my dog.

She's talking about the area surrounding the Knight's Inn.

Take sot

5650-56

It smells bad. There's a lot of little kids in there and a lot of

things happen there that are disturbing.

We found out - lee county deputies have been out here more than 1500

times in the last four years. That's more than once a day in some

cases.

The calls run the gamut from vandalism, drugs, to a simple check up.

Take sot

Cptn Chris reeves

LCSO

We aggressively do area checks and do enforcement in those areas and

stop known criminals and people violating the law.

Today a group of neighborhood representatives met with lee county

commissioner Brian Hamman, the lee county sheriffs office to

brainstorm ways to fix the issue.

Take sot

Brian Hamman

I certainly don't wanna single out any particular establishment but

there is definitely a need to increase safety in that community and it

has a lot of potential.

Al Spano says it's not as bad as some see it.

Spano

We've been here four years and haven't seen any problems.

While no concrete ideas came out of today's meeting- Hamman says the

sheriffs office will keep up patrols, as neighbors look to the future.

Still, Swenson hopes something positive comes down the road.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

We are tracking some rain and clouds in the Gulf of Mexico moving this way tomorrow. Skies will become a little cloudy overnight as temperatures drop into the 60's after midnight. The forecast for tomorrow looks mainly cloudy with a few showers developing during the day. It still does not look like a complete wash-out for Wednesday, but plan on passing showers mainly in the afternoon and early evening. Temperatures should still manage to recover to the upper 70's or lower 80's during the day.

After the weather moves through, skies will clear out for Thursday and slightly cooler weather will be in place for a few days. Daytime highs will be in the lower 70's on Thursday with a chilly morning coming on Friday. Low temperatures will dip into the 40's on Friday morning.

The weekend weather still looks good as high pressure builds back over the state and plenty of sunshine returns. Highs will be in the 80's this weekend. Return to index of stories...
