"More clouds with a few showers"

After a stretch of beautiful weather across Southwest Florida, some changes will take place today as a disturbance crosses the Gulf of Mexico. This system will increase the cloud cover, while bringing in a small rain chance for today.

Through the afternoon, expect a mix of clouds and sun with a few showers developing across the area. Despite the clouds, daytime highs will manage to climb into the lower 80s, with upper 70s across our beaches and coastal locations.

During the evening, a stray shower or two will be possible with the passing of a cold front. Overnight, expect clouds to decrease as cooler and drier weather settles down the peninsula. Temperatures by dawn will range from the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Dry high pressure will follow the front, which will result in a sunnier Thursday. Daytime highs will be unseasonably cool as they max out in the lower half of the 70s with a breezy northerly wind. We're in store for a late winter chill as temperatures dip into the middle to upper 40s by early Friday morning. Sunny skies will close out the work week and gradual warming trend will commence as we head into the weekend with afternoon highs returning to the lower 80s. Another dose of rain remains in the forecast for early next week. Return to index of stories...

nats

IN AN AGE OF SLEEK, SUPER FAST COMPUTERS AND SMART PHONES.

IT'S THIS NOW-CLUNKY LOOKING PERSONAL COMPUTER THAT GAVE

BIRTH TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB 25 YEARS AGO TODAY.

"That's what started to make the internet, this bigger, government and scientific

device more accessible to every day people."

UNTIL BRITISH SCIENTIST TIM BERNERS LEE CAME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THE WORLD WIDE WEB.THE

INTERNET WAS SIMPLY A GLOBAL CONNECTION OF COMPUTER NETWORKS THAT HAD BEEN DEVELOPED IN THE SIXTIES.

THE WORLD WIDE WEB OPENED THE DOOR TO THAT NETWORK AND LAUNCHED A TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION.

If you look at it, something like 87 percent of all Americans are online on a regular basis and if you look at people with college degrees or young people, that's like 97 plus percent.

FOR ALL OF THE BENEFITS THE WORLD WIDE WEB HAS CREATED.IT'S ALSO BROUGHT INCREASING CONCERNS ABOUT PRIVACY, SURVEILLANCE AND CYBER CRIME.

"It's humanity connected, when you look up the web you see humanity"

THAT'S LED THE WEB'S CREATOR TO USE ITS ANNIVERSARY AS A CALL FOR AN ONLINE BILL OF RIGHTS TO GUARANTEE FREE SPEECH AND PROTECT ONLINE USERS.

"Are we going to set up something like a Magna Carta for the world wide web and say, actually, now it's so important, so much part of our lives, that it becomes on a level with human rights?"

IT'S AN ISSUE BERNERS-LEE NEVER ENVISIONED WHEN HE INTRODUCED A CONCEPT 25 YEARS AGO TODAY THAT WOUND UP CHANGING THE WORLD.

COUPLE A SYMPTOMLESS HEALTH CONDITION WITH AN AGE GROUP THAT FEELS INVINCIBLE AND YOU HAVE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS COMBINATION. EXPERTS SAY THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH HYPERTENSION.

GARY GOFORTH/FAMILY PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

3:56: High blood pressure at an early age, you're doing damage to the vessels, you're increasing the risk of having heart problems, strokes and other vascular modalities later.

A STUDY FUNDED BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH FOUND ONE IN FIVE ADULTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 24 AND 32 HAD ELEVATED BLOOD PRESSURE. THE BIG NUMBER SEEMED SURPRISING AT FIRST, UNTIL YOU LOOK AT OUR EXPANDING WAISTLINES.

GARY GOFORTH/FAMILY PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

2:55 Hypertension is up because we do see much higher rates of obesity now. Diets are not good. Many people eat processed foods, fast foods that have high levels of sodium.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Younger adults are less likely to address their high blood pressure- because more often than not, they don't know about it. Sandwiched between children who get regular checkups and older adults who get annual physicals- this age group tends to let their healthcare slip through the cracks.

GARY GOFORTH/FAMILY PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

7:58: You don't know how much it's effecting you until you have that heart attack or stroke because you can't tell your blood pressure is high or low unless it's at the extreme.

IF CAUGHT EARLY, PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO FACE CONSEQUENCES OR REQUIRE MEDICAL INTERVENTION. EVEN A 10 POUND WEIGHT LOSS CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE. LIMITING SALT, EXERCISING REGULARLY AND GIVING UP SMOKING- CAN ALL HELP TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

VIRUS AND FOR YEARS, THE SMALL BIOTECH FIRM THAT'S DEVELOPING IT GAVE IT

AWAY -- LONG BEFORE IT WAS READY-- TO PATIENTS WHO BEGGED AND PLEADED. BUT

THE COMPANY SAYS ITS GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE RAN OUT IN 2012

SINCE THEN, THEY'VE BEEN FORCED TO SPEND -EVERY RESOURCE- TRYING TO GET THE

DRUG FDA APPROVED.WHICH MEANS REFUSING 100'S OF REQUESTS EACH YEAR.

Arthur Kaplan/Ethicist/NYU From the family's point of view and Josh's they

need the drug, they want the drug and they don't want to hear about anything

else.
