FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A chilly morning with temperatures as low as the 40s turns into a mild afternoon for our Friday as temperatures climb all the way into the upper 70s and low 80s.

We'll enjoy an abundance of sunshine through the day, which will help our temperatures rise pretty sharply.

Humidity levels will stay nice and low, and while the winds won't be nearly as strong as yesterday, we'll still have a stiff breeze at times with gusts getting up to 20 mph.

Rain stays out of the forecast today, and we'll keep things dry at least through the end of the weekend.

If you're planning on being out tonight, you'll still need to dress somewhat warm because temps will fall fast beyond sunset. With a clear and quiet sky in place, temperatures will settle into the mid 50s overnight with a couple of our inland cool spots dipping as low as the upper 40s.

We've got another gorgeous weekend on the way with tons of sun and highs in the low to mid 80s.

After a sunny and dry weekend, we'll have some rain and storms to track to start the week on Monday, but the unsettled weather should only last a day or so.

By Tuesday, the forecast looks drier and fairly seasonable with highs around 80, which is where we should stay for the remainder of the week. Return to index of stories...

SALT LAKE CITY BLOGGER MELISSA ESPLIN HAS MORE THAN THREE-THOUSAND PHOTOS

.CHARMING IMAGES OF HER CALLIGRAPHY AND CRAFT PROJECTS, AND MANY INNOCENT

PICTURES OF HERSELF.

BUT TWO WEEKS AGO, THE MARRIED MOTHER OF TWO YOUNG KIDS WOKE UP TO FIND THAT

HER PERFECTLY P-G PICS WERE BEING USED IN A VERY X-RATED WAY.

Melissa Esplin ReaxIt infuriated me and sort of sent me into a panic.I was

just angry that people would think that that person was me.

SOME OF THE TOTALLY APPROPRIATE PHOTOS FROM ESPLIN'S BLOG HAD BEEN STOLEN.

THEN, THE SECOND SHOCK. ESPLIN SAYS SHE FOUND SHE WAS THE TARGET OF

AT THIS STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT, CHILDREN ARE BECOMING AWARE OF NORMAL FEARS AND THEIR IMAGINATIONS ARE MORE ACTIVE.

DR. DENISE DRAGO/PEDIATRICIAN

RUNS:

:15 It's a pretty common childhood disorder and there are things you can to help make them less frequent.

Being too tired, not getting enough sleep, having UNPREDICTABLE routineS AND stress or anxiety may all increase the risk of having nightmares. BAD DREAMS CAN STEM FROM INSECURITY.

DR. DENISE DRAGO/PEDIATRICIAN

RUNS:

4:09 Having a good sleep routine and making sure your child is getting enough sleep is going to be the thing that helps prevent that. Staying up later, not eating as well, those things are all more likely to sort of bring about sleep disruptions, including nightmares.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

When children wake up from a bad dream, they are usually looking for comfort. Most times that means mom and dad. Which brings about a late night dilemma- do you invite them into your bed to make them feel safe?

DR. DENISE DRAGO/PEDIATRICIAN

RUNS:

1:38 What you don't want to do- which is what happens when you're very tired, when your kid wakes you up in the middle of the night- is bring them in your bed, because that gets them to go to sleep faster.

1:57: If you work really on saying 'you're safe, things are safe' in their own room you'll re-enforce that they're OK where they are.

LITTLE GRACE GOT THE DOSE OF REASSURANCE SHE NEEDED- WITHOUT SPENDING THE NIGHT WITH HER PARENTS.

LISA JACOBS/MOM

RUNS:

1:06: We're lucky enough we have a little couch we laid on last night and we hugged it out until she stopped crying then we got her back into her bed.

TROUBLING ALLEGATIONS AGAINST GENERAL MOTORS.

THE CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY LINKS THREE-HUNDRED DEATHS TO G-M AIRBAGS THAT DIDN'T DEPLOY.

AS MELISSA MONET REPORTS, THIS COMES AS THE COMPANY DEALS WITH A SEPARATE PROBLEM. Return to index of stories...

GM WARNING-PKG

THE NEW ACCUSATIONS INVOLVE THE ONGOING RECALL OF THE SATURN IONS AND CHEVY COLBALTS FOR IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS. THE CLAIMS CAME IN "THIS LETTER" FROM THE "CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY". THE CENTER NOW BLAMING THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION - AND GENERAL MOTORS - FOR "NOT" INVESTIGATING HUNDREDS OF CRASHES THAT RESULTED IN 303 DEATHS. IN EACH CASE, AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY.

"People should be outraged because there were deaths on the record no one looked into."

BUT NHSTA SAYS THERE WASN'T ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO WARRANT AN INVESTIGATION. AND GM CALLS THE REPORT "PURE SPECULATION". MEANING THE NUMBERS ALONE DON'T TELL US IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ISSUE - AND IGNITION PROBLEM G.M. ADMITS KILLED 12 OTHER PEOPLE - ARE ACTUALLY "CONNECTED".

"The air bag is investigated in every crash, that is a measure they could have used if they had thought of it"

THOUGH GM KNEW OF THE IGNITION PROBLEM BACK IN 2001, IT DID NOT RECALL THE CARS UNTIL LAST MONTH.

"Some things may not seem significant - but later turn out to be very significant."

IN ONE OF THE FAULTY IGNITION CASES, G.M. SAYS HEAVY KEYS ACTUALLY "WORE OUT" AN IGNITION SWITCH.

THEY'RE NOW TELLING CUSTOMERS TO AVOID EXTRA KEY WEIGHT…KEYS…KEY CHAINS…OR TRINKETS ON YOUR CHAIN.

"The best thing to do and folks should be safe if they follow what GM tells them to do."

THAT INCLUDES NOW TAKING YOUR CAR IN FOR THE FIX.
