MISSING PLANE NEW DETAILS-trxPKG

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

MALAYSIAN POLICE HAVE SEARCHED THE HOMES OF BOTH THE PILOT AND THE CO-PILOT FOR CLUES TO THE WHEREABOUTS OF FLIGHT 370.

SOME EXPERTS ARE CRITICAL OF THE INVESTIGATION, SAYING THE MOVE IS LONG OVERDUE.

For them to wait this long to look into the pilots' homes is really inexcusable. PLANE DISAPPEARANCE "DELIBERATE"?

THE SEARCHES WERE PROMPTED BY ANALYSIS OF ELECTRONIC AND SATELLITE DATA THAT SHOWS THE PLANE WAS FLYING A STRANGE PATH.

these movements are consistent with deliberate action by someone on the plane.

THE MOVEMENTS LED INVESTIGATORS TO BROADEN THE SEARCH AREA. THEY BELIEVE AFTER COMMUNICATION WAS CUT OFF, THE PLANE TURNED AND FLEW WEST OVER THE MALAYSIAN PENINSULA. AND THEN WENT EITHER NORTHWEST, TOWARD THE BAY OF BENGAL. OR SOUTHWEST, OVER THE INDIAN OCEAN.

the aviation authorities of Malaysia and their international counterparts have determined that the plane's last communication with a satellite was in one of two possible corridors.

THE NORTHERN CORRIDOR STRETCHES FROM THE BORDER OF KAZAKHSTAN AND TURKMENISTAN ALL THE WAY OVER TO NORTHERN THAILAND.

THE SOUTHERN CORRIDOR STRETCHES FROM INDONESIA INTO THE SOUTHERN INDIAN OCEAN.

WITH THE FOCUS NOW ON THE AREA WEST OF MALAYSIA, SEARCHES OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA ARE BEING ABANDONED.

DESPITE THESE RENEWED EFFORTS, EXPERTS CONTINUE TO CRITICIZE THE INVESTIGATION.

how do you make heads and tails of any of this?

the malaysian authorities are making no sense at this point, so i question whether they believe their theories. i think they're just grabbing at straws. Return to index of stories...

Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

It's been a warm, sun-splashed Saturday across Southwest Florida with temperatures peaking in the low to mid 80s through the afternoon.

Only a few clouds have dotted the sky, and we'll continue with mainly clear, quiet weather tonight.

Temperatures won't be as cool as last night, but it'll still feel nice and pleasant through the evening and overnight as temps drop to the low to mid 60s by Sunday morning.

The big change we'll notice tomorrow is a wind shift, which will contribute to some warmer temps by Sunday afternoon. A stiff southerly breeze will develop through the day Sunday, and winds may gust up to 20-25 mph by the afternoon.

Also, with the added southerly component to the wind, temps will get a little boost as daytime highs reach the mid 80s for most of Southwest Florida; some of our inland communities may even manage to reach the 86-88 degree range.

Humidity starts increasing tomorrow, but there won't be enough moisture or instability just yet to form any showers.

Our dry weather pattern will likely end on St. Patrick's Day as an area of low pressure develops over the northern Gulf, sending some scattered rain and even a few storms our way. With respect to timing, it's looking more like the bulk of the rain will hold off until late in the day. The timing is still subject to change, so we'll need to track its progress closely this weekend.

It's possible some rain and clouds linger into Tuesday morning, but the rest of the week should be pretty nice and at least partly sunny with highs in the 80s.

Spring officially begins Thursday, and the forecast will follow suit; highs will be in the mid 80s and lows in the 60s.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
