6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

It's a milder start to our Sunday with temperatures only cooling into the low to mid 60s this morning across Charlotte, Lee, and Collier County.

We're in store for plenty of sun again today, but a few more clouds will mix in with sunshine through the afternoon.

Even with a little more cloud cover around, temperatures should have no trouble reaching the mid 80s.

Some of our inland communities like LaBelle and Immokalee may even get as warm as 86-88 degrees this afternoon.

One big change we'll notice today is the wind; a stiff southerly breeze will develop through the day, and winds may gust up to 20-25 mph during the afternoon.

Due to the more southerly component of the wind. humidity starts increasing today, but there won't be enough moisture or instability just yet to form any showers.

Our dry weather pattern will likely end on St. Patrick's Day as an area of low pressure develops over the northern Gulf, sending some scattered rain and even a few storms our way. There's still some question on the timing of the rain, but it's looking more like the bulk of the activity will hold off until late in the day. We'll need to track this system closely and perhaps tweak the timing a little over the next day.

It's possible some rain and clouds will linger into Tuesday morning, but the rest of the week should be pretty nice and at least partly sunny with highs in the 80s.

Spring officially begins Thursday, and the forecast will follow suit; highs will be in the mid 80s and lows in the 60s.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

SPORTS WRAP-PKG

YOU WON'T FIND MANY WOMEN'S HOOPS RIVALRIES MORE HEATED THAN F-G-C-U/STETSON.

THE TWO TEAMS HAVE HAD BAD BLOOD FOR YEARS.

THE EAGLES CLEARLY HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN ABOUT LAST YEAR'S ATLANTIC SUN TITLE GAME.

F-G-C-U HADN'T LOST IN CONFERENCE ALL YEAR. BUT THE HATTERS STUNNED THEM. AND COST THE EAGLES AN NCAA TOURNEY BID.

ALL F-G-C-U WANTED WAS A SHOT AT REDEMPTION ON SUNDAY.

TO GET BACK TO THE TITLE GAME. F-G-C-U FIRST NEEDED TO BEAT MERCER SATURDAY IN THE A-SUN SEMIS.

F-G-C-U LED BY 20 AT THE BREAK ON ITS HOME COURT. WHITNEY KNIGHT. MAKING IT A 23 POINT GAME FROM LONG. KNIGHT HAD 13 POINTS.

JENNA COBB PICKED THE RIGHT DAY FOR ONE OF HER BEST GAMES AS AN EAGLE. GIVE HER A THREE, TOO.

JENNA HIT FIVE OF THEM. HERE'S ANOTHER FROM THE SAME SPOT.

COBB HAD 22 POINTS. ADDS MORE AFTER THE STEAL.

F-G-C-U JUMPED OUT EARLY AND ROLLS TO A 64-47 VICTORY.

TODAY. THE EAGLES WILL PLAY FOR THEIR 2ND-EVER NCAA TOURNEY BID.

STETSON HAD SEVEN PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES IN A BLOWOUT WIN OVER U-S-C UPSTATE IN THE OTHER SEMIFINAL.

THAT MEANS IT'S THE HATTERS AND F-G-C-U IN THE A-SUN FINAL FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR.

THEY'LL TIP AT ALICO ARENA AT THREE TODAY FOR A TRIP TO THE BIG DANCE.

THE F-G-C-U MEN WILL FINALLY FIND OUT WHO THEY'RE PLAYING IN THE N-I-T TONIGHT.

THE N-I-T BRACKET WILL FINALLY BE REVEALED AFTER THE NCAA'S FIELD OF 68 IS UNVEILED EARLY SUNDAY EVENING.

THE MOST LIKELY SCENARIO WOULD PROBABLY INVOLVE F-G-C-U TRAVELING TO TALLAHASSEE TO FACE FLORIDA STATE.

THAT IS. IF THE SEMINOLES DON'T SNEAK INTO THE BIG DANCE.

TOP-RANKED FLORIDA WILL BE A NUMBER ONE SEED WHEN THE NCAA BRACKETS COME OUT.

TENNESSEE GAVE THE GATORS A RUN IN THE S-E-C SEMIS.

BUT FLORIDA HIT THE BIG SHOTS LATE. MICHAEL FRAZIER GIVES U-F THE LEAD WITH THE THREE.

PATRIC YOUNG ALSO HIT A BIG ONE LATE.

GATORS WIN, 56-49.

THEY'LL PLAY KENTUCKY FOR THE S-E-C TITLE SUNDAY.

AND AFTER 25 STRAIGHT WINS. COACH DONOVAN STILL THINKS THE GATORS HAVEN'T PEAKED.

TWO-AND-A-HALF YEARS AGO. F-G-C-U STARTED A CLUB WRESTLING TEAM WITH JUST FOUR MEMBERS.

TODAY. THE EAGLES STAND AS DIVISION TWO NATIONAL CHAMPS!

F-G-C-U CLOSED OUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY IN ALLEN, TEXAS. EDGING OUT M-I-T.

ALL NINE EAGLE WRESTLERS WHO COMPETED SCORED POINTS.

GIOVANNI GIOVANETTA EARNED ALL-AMERICAN STATUS.

HEAD COACH PAT MILKOVICH WAS EMOTIONAL WHEN I SPOKE WITH HIM ON THE PHONE. CREDITING HIS WRESTLERS' COMMITMENT AND SACRIFICE FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN.

THE EVERBLADES WIN AT FORT WAYNE, 3-1.

THAT MOVES THE 'BLADES FROM OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS TO IN FOR THE TIME BEING.

GREAT PITCHING MATCHUP BETWEEN JON LESTER AND CLIFF LEE AS THE RED SOX TOOK ON THE PHILLIES AT JET BLUE PARK.

LESTER WAS PRETTY SOLID. HERE'S ONE OF HIS FIVE STRIKEOUTS. GAVE UP ONE RUN IN FOUR INNINGS.

PHILLIES SCORED THREE IN THE FIFTH. WIN, 4-1.

THE RAYS WENT SPLIT QUAD TODAY. TAKING ON THE JAYS IN PORT CHARLOTTE.

FORMER CHARLOTTE STONE CRAB MIKEY MAAH-TOOK HAD THE BIG SWING OF THE DAY. GRAND SLAM FOR MIKEY. 5-2 RAYS.

EVAN LONGORIA DROVE IN A RUN, TOO.

TAMPA BAY WINS, 6-3.

A FOUR-UNDER THIRD ROUND GOT NORTH FORT MYERS GRAD GEORGE MCNEILL BACK IN THE MIX AT THE P-G-A'S VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP.

HE'S AT TWO UNDER. SIX BACK OF THIS MAN.

INSIDE -- MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRE --- OFFICER PAUL DIAL

Hell, I saved a guy's life for sure.

If I didn't react like I did, he probably would've been in there not coming out.

WEARING NO SHOES, RYAN SMITH, RAN FROM HIS HOME TO HELP WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD BANG.

THE DRIVER OF THIS SUV BLEW THE STOP SIGN AND SLAMMED INTO THE OFFICER.

When I came back up, there was a flame underneath the hood.

AT THAT TIME I KNEW HE HAD TO COME OUT OF THERE. I LEANED DOWN AND TOLD HIM TO GRAB MY SHOULDER AND WRAP HIS ARM AROUND MY NEXT AND WE STARTED WALKING AWAY FROM IT.

ON THE VIDEO YOU CAN HEAR OFFICERS MOANS AND GROANS

Oh my head.

Oh my head.

A COLLEAGUE RESPONDING TO THE CRASH CONSOLES HIM

Sorry, I know it is uncomfortable buddy.

We will take care of you

Turns out, Police say this wasn't the first accident they've responded to an accident at this intersection.

This is an intersection where people do run the stop sign, especially people who are not familiar with the area.

We've had bad accidents there before.

THE WOMAN WHO BLEW THE STOP SIGN IN THIS SUV HAD TWO KIDS IN THE BACKSEAT.

AND GUESS WHAT?

I jumped up, l think it was this side, too.

RYAN RESCUED THEM, TOO.

BUT THAT WAS BEFORE HE GOT THE OFFICER OUT OF THE BURNING CAR.

HE SAYS HE IS NO HERO.
