MISSING MALAYSIA PLANE-ONCAM

IT'S BEEN MORE THAN A WEEK SINCE MALAYSIA AIRLINES FLIGHT 3-70 -- LOST COMMUNICATION WITH AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL.

NOW -- INVESTIGATORS FROM 25-COUNTRIES ARE SHIFTING THEIR FOCUS -- AND LOOKING INTO WHETHER THE PLANE'S PILOTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS DISAPPEARANCE.

N-B-C'S ANNABEL ROBERTS HAS MORE NOW, FROM LONDON. Return to index of stories...

MISSING MALAYSIA PLANE-PKG

YES POLICE NOW LOOKING CLOSELY INTO THE LIVES OF THE PILOT AND CO-PILOT - WHAT THEY DO, THEIR INTERESTS, ALSO, CRITICALLY AT THEIR PSYCHOLOGICAL STATE.

THE CONCLUSION THAT WHOEVER IS BEHIND THIS - WHOEVER DISABLED THE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS AND FLEW THE PLANE - MUST HAVE SIGNIFICANT AVIATION EXPERIENCE - WELL THAT INEVITABLY LEADS INVESTIGATORS TO THE TWO PILOTS AS POSSIBLE SUSPECTS.

ONE THING THOUGH WAS MADE VERY CLEAR AT THIS MORNING'S PRESS CONFERENCE: THE TWO MEN HAD NOT ASKED TO FLY TOGETHER.

INVESTIGATORS HAVE BEEN SPEAKING TO THE MEN'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

BOTH THEIR HOMES HAVE BEEN SEARCHED.

THE PILOT, CAPTAIN ZAHIRI AHMED SHAH, WAS 53 AND HAD BUILT A FLIGHT SIMULATOR AT HIS HOME.

CLEARLY THIS IS NOW OF MAJOR INTEREST TO INVESTIGATORS - IT'S BEEN DISMANTLED AND REMOVED FOR FURTHER EXAMINATION - COULD THERE BE ANY CLUES TO THIS MYSTERY, OR ANY FLIGHT PATHS LOADED ON TO IT THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THE ONE IT'S BELIEVED THE PLANE TOOK ON THIS JOURNEY.

"We took possession of a simulator , of a flight simulator and we dismantled it from the home and we assembled it at our office and we are getting experts to look at it now."

ALSO POLICE ARE ALSO INVESTIGATING THE ENGINEERS AND GROUND STAFF WHO WORKED ON THE PLANE BEFORE IT TOOK OFF, AND ALL PASSENGERS ON BOARD.

AS FOR THE SEARCH - MALAYSIAN OFFICIALS SAY THERE ARE NOW 25 COUNTRIES INVOLVED - IT'S VERY COMPLEX. WHAT THEY REALLY WANT IS SATELLITE AND RADAR DATA - IN THE HOPE THIS WILL HELP THEM TRACK THE JET'S FLIGHT PATH - AND SO NARROW DOWN THE SEARCH, WHETHER IT WENT NORTH IN THE DIRECTION OF CENTRAL ASIA, OR SOUTH OVER THE INDIAN OCEAN.

ANABEL ROBERTS, NBC NEWS, LONDON. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

WX RUNDOWN:

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

One big change we'll notice today is the wind; a stiff southerly breeze will develop through the day, and winds may gust up to 20-25 mph during the afternoon.

Due to the more southerly component of the wind. humidity starts increasing today, but there won't be enough moisture or instability just yet to form any showers.

Our dry weather pattern will likely end on St. Patrick's Day as an area of low pressure develops over the northern Gulf, sending some scattered rain and even a few storms our way. There's still some question on the timing of the rain, but it's looking more like the bulk of the activity will hold off until late in the day. We'll need to track this system closely and perhaps tweak the timing a little over the next day.

It's possible some rain and clouds will linger into Tuesday morning, but the rest of the week should be pretty nice and at least partly sunny with highs in the 80s.

Spring officially begins Thursday, and the forecast will follow suit; highs will be in the mid 80s and lows in the 60s.
