STOCKS HAVE HAD A GREAT START TO THE WEEK.

TOMORROW, JANET YELLEN, THE NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE WILL HOLD HER FIRST POLICYMAKING MEETING.

NICK CLUMSKY FROM WELLS FARGO IS HERE WITH WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE FED MEETING AND HOW WILL THIS IMPACT THE MARKETS MOVING FORWARD. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLAS-(4)CG

It is nice to see markets charging higher again. In fact, as of yesterday's close, the S&P500 moved in positive territory for the year, up one half of a percent. And quite frankly, I would expect the upward trend of the market to continue for the foreseeable future. Sure, we'll have some bumps along the way, but as low as interest rates are, what is the incentive to invest in fixed income or cash right now. Not much.

· And in regard to interest rates and monetary policy in general, tomorrow we will get our first read on Janet Yellen as she hosts her first Federal Reserve meeting to discuss the latest economic data, stimulus programs, and policy moving forward. So what can we expect from the new Yellen regime at the Fed? I'm guessing we won't see a whole lot of change.

After all, the dual mandate of the Federal Reserve is to maintain price stability and maximize employment. In short, the Fed is responsible for keeping inflation under control and making sure Americans are at work. And at present, although the economy is improving and growing, inflation is still subdued and unemployment is still persistently high.

So first, I think when the Fed releases its statement tomorrow, things will be relatively status quo. The tapering will likely continue throughout the balance of the year. I would imagine that the stimulus will probably decrease at a rate of $10 billion per month and I think that the markets are ready for this program to get wrapped up and that the taper is likely already priced into both the stock market and the bond market.

Second, Yellen will likely change the metrics of when the Federal Reserve will raise its key short-term interest rate or Federal Funds Rate. Up until this point, the Fed has indicated that it will not raise the Federal Funds rate until unemployment has fallen to 6.5% or inflation rises as high as 2.5%. With the unemployment rate already at 6.7%, that target could be reached relatively soon. Many, however, don't believe the US economy is ready for a rate hike quite yet. So we may see new metrics or guidelines of when the Fed will increase rates.

And third, the Fed may take a wait and see approach before making any monetary changes this month due to the harsh winter that has been blamed for sluggish economic data over the past few months.

We believe the Fed is likely to leave short-term interest rates at near-zero percent for a least another year. And I think the take home message for investors is that as long as interest rates are as low as they are, there's a pretty good chance that the stock market will continue grinding higher. PLANE UPDATE-PKG

Hey there. Yeah the mystery deepens every day here.

Investigators must be asking themselves a series of questions.

TAPE:

The flight simulator that was taken from the pilot's house- what is on that, what did it show about what he was doing with that flight simulator?

What was the psychological state of mind of the pilot and co-pilot in the days in the run up to the disappearance of flight 370?

And is there any motivation in either of their lives that might go towards explaining them being involved in any way because today the authorities revealed that they believe there was nobody else on the plane who would have been able to switch off the communications systems, fly this 777 in the way that it was flown.

And yet friends that we have been speaking to and family are defending both the pilot and the co-pilot.

"With is character and what we knew of him, it just wouldn't make any sense."

The pilot lives in an upscale residential area.

It has security guards, a well-off guy.

Some people are saying "why would he be involved in something like that?"

REPORTER CLOSE:

AND THE SAME THING FOR THE CO-PILOT, BELIEVED TO HAVE A GIRLFRIEND, PERHAPS A FIANCEE, HE HAD MUCH IN HIS LIFE.

HIS FRIENDS AGAIN SAYING IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

SO AFTER ALL OF THIS TIME, THESE DAYS, THE DEBATE OVER WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED TO FLIGHT 370, WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHERE THE PLANE IS, WHO WAS FLYING IT, OR WHY THEY MIGHT HAVE FLOWN IT IN THE WAY THEY DID.

NATS: FIRE AUDIO

Firefighters race to the Lubbock, Texas home of Ross and Meg Rushing as an electrical storm rolls through.

Sot: "BOOM LIGHTNING HIT"

A crash of thunder appears to trip the burglar alarm. Ross and his friend Brennen Teel trying to shut it off.

Ross Rushing: THAT'S WHEN THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED.

Ross escapes under the buckled garage door.

NATS radio: DISPATCH, WE HAVE A VICTIM IN THE REAR OF THE STRUCTURE.

Brennen does not make it out.

Ken Teel/Brennen's Father: I WOULD NOT WISH THIS ON ANYBODY.

Brennen's parents soon learn the Fire Marshal blames yellow CSST.corrugated stainless steel tubes used to pipe gas in millions of homes.and approved in building codes across the country.

Fire Marshal Garett Nelson believes lightning hit the METAL chimney cap -- traveled into the attic -- and jumped or arced onto the CSST -- puncturing tiny holes in the thin tubes - creating mini blow torches.

Garett Nelson/Lubbock Fire Marshal: NOW WE'VE GOT FLAME JETS COMING OUT OF THOSE PIPES SO IT VERY QUICKLY INVOLVED THE ENTIRE ATTIC.

S/UP: Scott Friedman

CRITICS OF CSST ARGUE THE WALLS OF THE TUBING ARE SIMPLY TOO THIN, MUCH THINNER THAN BLACK IRON PIPE THAT'S BEEN USED TO SUPPLY GAS TO HOMES FOR DECADES.

Believing CSST contributed to a death, the City of Lubbock banned the product.

Garett Nelson: THAT NEEDS TO BE THE LAST FIRE DEATH THAT'S CREATED BECAUSE OF A BAD PRODUCT.

The company that made the CSST - Titeflex - denies its product is to blame.

I THINK THE FACTS OVER THE COURSE OF TIME ARE GOING TO SURFACE AND IT'S GOING PROVE THAT OUR PRODUCT IS NOT NECESSARILY THE CULPRIT IN THIS CASE.

Their experts believe the fire started with lightning damage to electrical wiring -- installed too close to the CSST.

WE KNOW WITH OVER 22 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PRODUCT, IT'S A SAFE PRODUCT.

At least 6 companies in the U-S make CSST.

They say lightning fires are unlikely if CSST is connected or bonded to the electrical grounding system in the house.

But some experts are still seeing fires in homes where it WAS bonded and grounded.

SOT: "I just want to the solution to fixing the problem because the problem is out there - it's still out there.

Meanwhile the Teels want the product off the market and want others to hear Brennen's story.

SOT: His incident may lead to save other lives and property and i think that's a good way for us to remember him. Return to index of stories...

:41 What they're probably talking about is low grade Ductal Carcinoma In Situ and some people think that is over treated and it might be. You don't know for sure it would ever turn into cancer, an invasive cancer that might kill someone.

BUT DOCTORS AREN'T DISCOUNTING THE VALUE OF A MAMMOGRAM.

DR. GAIL SANTUCCI/DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGIST

RUNS:

3:24 Our whole goal really is to find cancer before it's detectable by feeling a mass. So if we can see something on the mammogram that's abnormal and find out it is cancer it's typically easily treated with minimal surgery and oncology and treatment.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

More recently the FDA approved a second breast cancer screener. Adding ultrasound to the arsenal. It may help doctors get a read on more difficult cases or give another perspective on dense, hard to read tissue.

DR. GAIL SANTUCCI/DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:44: Ultrasound uses ultrasound which is a completely different technology using sound waves instead of x-rays and so it just has the ability to kind of travel differently through the tissue and provide you with a different view. 2:04: We use it a lot of times when someone has a spot they can feel because we can directly target that area to look and see if there is a mass there.

FINDING CANCER EARLY IS NOT A FIX- BUT GIVES DOCTORS A STARTING POINT TO EVALUATE THE DISEASE AND IT'S PROSPECTS.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Last night's windy cool front has moved past Florida this morning. Cooler and

drier NW winds are bringing a clearing trend today and a drop in humidity.

High pressure building into the Gulf States, and another to follow at the end

of the week will control the weather pattern tomorrow through Sunday. Partly

to mostly sunny skies will dominate. Highs this afternoon will reach the upper

70s, then we'll reach the 80s each of the next 4 or 5 days. The next chance for

significant rain is not until early next week. Return to index of stories...

MEGA MILLIONS-OANIBOX

SOMEONE COULD BE 400 MILLION DOLLARS RICHER TONIGHT, BEFORE TAXES THAT IS.

THE MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT DRAWING IS DRAWING SOME MAJOR INTEREST ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND HERE IN FLORIDA.

JAY GRAY SHOWS US THE ODDS OF PICKING A WINNER. Return to index of stories...

MEGA MILLIONS-PKG

ambient nats

THEY ARE LINING UP HERE.

AND THERE.

ACROSS THE COUNTRY - PLAYERS BUYING THEIR TICKETS IN THE FINAL HOURS BEFORE TONIGHT'S DRAWING. WITH THE HOPE THEY'LL BE THE NEXT MEGA-MILLIONAIRE.

"About once a month I go in and throw in a few bucks and cross my fingers."

A FEW BUCKS THAT TONIGHT COULD BRING HOME A 400-MILLION DOLLAR JACKPOT.

"I watch the amount and when it starts getting up there, here I am."

IF IT SEEMS LIKE THE PAYOUT HAS BEEN "GETTING UP THERE" A LOT LATELY - WELL, IT HAS.

THE LOTTERY'S EXPANDED TO 43-STATES. WASHINGTON D-C. AND THE VIRGIN ISLANDS.

MORE PLAYERS ARE BUYING MORE TICKETS - OVER 35-BILLION DOLLARS WORTH.

THE GAME HAS PAID MORE THAN 17-BILLION-DOLLARS TO 241 WINNERS.

AND ACCOUNTED FOR A BOOST OF MORE THAN 12-BILLION-DOLLARS FOR STATE GOVERNMENTS.

BUT THE BOTTOM LINE SO MANY ARE THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW. IS WHAT THEY WILL DO WITH THEIR WINNINGS.

"Retire, buy an island, buy myself a nice set of wheels and kick back for the rest of my life."

OF COURSE. PICKING THE WINNING NUMBERS IS. A LONG SHOT AT BEST.

"If I hit the lottery that is lightning."

BUT CONSIDER THIS.

AT 258-MILLION-TO-ONE. THE ODDS OF WINNING TONIGHT'S MEGA-MILLIONS DRAWING ARE INFINITELY BETTER.

THAN THE 1-IN-128-BILLION CHANCE OF FILLING OUT A PERFECT N-C-DOUBLE-A BRACKET.

AND THERE'S STILL TIME TO GET YOUR TICKET.
