FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"COOL START, WARMER FINISH"

Now that a cold front has pushed through the area, our days will be sunnier with a warming trend through the week. We'll keep a mainly dry weather pattern in place through the weekend, with increasing rain prospects by early next week.

As we head into the late morning hours, the low clouds and patchy fog will eventually mix out. Otherwise, lots of sunshine will fill our skies through the afternoon , with a few clouds migrating across the state on a light northeasterly breeze during the day. Daytime highs will be seasonable, as temperatures climb into the lower half of the 80s under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will hold in the upper 70s closer to the coast, due to the afternoon gulf breeze.

Tonight, mostly clear skies will remain in the forecast. It won't be as cool, but still quite comfortable, as temperatures dip into the lower 60s. The cool spots will be mainly north and east of the interstate, with readings in the upper 50s.

High pressure will keep our afternoons mostly to partly sunny, with warming temperatures. Expect early morning temperatures to range from the lower to middle 60s, while daytime highs gradually work their way back into the lower to middle 80s. The weekend is looking warm and dry, with increasing rain chances by early next week as a cold front moves across the peninsula. Return to index of stories...

Cholesterol is essential for digestion, hormonal balance and cell function, but at high concentrations it can gum up arteries. Statins work by blocking production of cholesterol in the liver. The most current recommendations stress treating the sickest and those at highest risk of a heart attack or stroke.

INVESTIGATORS SAY THREE CALIFORNIA TEENAGERS PLANNED AND ATTEMPTED TO CARRY OUT AN ELABORATE KIDNAPPING BY USING FACEBOOK.

PROSECUTORS SAY, THOSE TEENS - WHO ARE 16 AND 17 - WILL BE TRIED AS ADULTS BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THE CRIMES.

CLAIRE DOAN HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

FACEBOOK KIDNAP-PKG

IT STARTED ON FACEBOOK.

DEPUTIES SAY THREE TEENS GOT TOGETHER, CREATED A FAKE PROFILE, AND FRIENDED THE 17 YEAR OLD VICTIM. THEN SET UP A MARIJUANA DEAL.

Standup/ Claire Doan, Reporting:10-:20

"This is the remote area of Marysville where the teens had arranged to meet the victim. As you can see, few homes nearby. Very few cars that pass by, a perfect spot, they thought, for their plan.

DEPUTIES SAY: JESSY MURRAY, FRANK ODDO AND JACOB CADENA MASKED THEMSELVES AND STOCKED AN S-U-V WITH DIFFERENT WEAPONS, INCLUDING MACHETES.

S/ Patrick McGrath, Yuba County D.A.:29-:38

"Once there, hiding their identities with the bandanas, with the sunglasses using airsoft pistols that look very much like real guns."

YUBA COUNTY D.A. PATRICK MCGRATH SAYS.

IN THE TEENS' MINDS.THE VICTIM WAS NOT GOING TO COME BACK FROM HERE ALIVE.

"They had instigated a plan to kidnap the 17-year old, to take him to another rural isolated area, to sodomize him, to cut him, to cut his achilles tendons -- and we believe, ultimately, then kill him."

MEANWHILE, THE VICTIM WAITED ON THIS EMPTY ROAD.

THIS IS WHAT POLICE SAY HAPPENED NEXT:

"Sensing something fishy, the victim called his aunt from this road. And she came here just as he was being thrown in the trunk by three masked teens. She called police."

THE SUSPECTS ARE BEING HELD HERE IN JUVENILE HALL.

BUT THEY'LL BE PROSECUTED AS ADULTS.

"Planning something as sophisticated and as heinous as this, and apparently not having any compunction about stopping, about what they're doing, about going forward with it.

These are 17 and 16 year olds and people think boys will be boys, but this is the furthest thing from the truth." Return to index of stories...
