It isn't what Lindsay holder's neighborhood typically looks like.

Sot Lindsay Holder, witness

I was coming home from work and the street was blocked, so I thought

I'll just zip back into the neighborhood and come up the back way and

they had woodland blocked off, Austin street blocked off and I could

see the motorcycle."

What she didn't know was that motorcycle belonged to a lee county deputy.

The crash-a result of a traffic stop gone wrong.

Sot sheriff Scott

It started when he ran the red light."

Lee county Sheriff Scott is talking about Travis Taylor.

Deputies say they were running a traffic operation at us 41 and

college parkway,

When Taylor refused to pullover.

They say he took off,

Driving through residential and commercial properties,

Prompting deputies to fire.

Taylor made a u-turn,

going the wrong way down the street hitting deputy George Perez head on,

Throwing perez off his motorcycle.

Deputy Dan leffin leaped out of the way to avoid being hit.

Sot Scott

Our investigation points to willful, reckless, intentional behavior

that brought life and limb into jeapordy, his own and others and of

course in this case he was uninjured but our folks were and the threat

to the community was real."

According to deputies,

Leffin jumped back on his motorcycle, following Taylor to the crash

site at IHOP.

Taylor ran.

Leffin followed,

Until his motorcycle crashed into a Fence, ejecting him.

Despite injures to his left leg and ankle,

He pursed Taylor until he was captured.

Both deputies-transported to lee memorial.

Sot Scott

These are just guys, just like me and you, we get up everyday and do

our job, and unfortunately the job became very dangerous yesterday and

I'm just glad it wasn't worse. I appreciate everyone's concern and

George right now has a very long road ahead of him but it looks like

he'll survive it."

Right now-Deputy Perez is recovering from surgery in the icu.

Leffin- is back at home.

Today Taylor appeared in front of a judge,

Where he was denied bond for attempted murder.

Sot Scott

This was at the hands of a criminal and that I take very very seriously." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MORE SUNSHINE TOMORROW

The weather pattern will continue to bring quiet weather to southwest Florida tomorrow. The only real challenge to the forecast is pinpointing the arrival and departure of the morning fog. This morning, the fog and low clouds hung on for a few hours longer than anticipated. It appears that we will be set up for another round of fog and low clouds tomorrow morning, and I will forecast the areas of fog to last for an hour or two after sunrise on Thursday. Once the sun comes out tomorrow it looks like another great day. Low temperatures will be in the mid and upper 50's with highs in the lower 80's on Thursday afternoon.

The extended forecast for the weekend still looks pretty good. But it is beginning to look like there could be a more noticeable amount of clouds this weekend. So far, the forecast for showers this weekend is still very low. but that could change over the next few days. Be sure to check back for updates about the weekend weather. In the meantime - enjoy more nice weather tomorrow. Return to index of stories...

Malaysian authorities have asked the FBI to help analyze the system and

recover files deleted on Feb. 3. Investigators want to know if captain

review has found nothing suspicious.

SOT/Rasiah Sivarasa, People's Justice Party, acquaintance of Shah - the kind

The agonizing wait for answers caused some families of the missing to lash

Teams from the US and Australia have narrowed down an area in the South

THE REPORT CITES SERIOUS LAPSES IN COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION BETWEEN EMERGENCY RESPONDERS DURING LAST NOVEMBER'S DEADLY SHOOTING.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHANGES THAT WILL HAPPEN -- THE AIRPORT PA SYSTEM IS NOW GETTING THE CAPABILITY TO DELIVER COORDINATED EMERGENCY MESSAGES. Return to index of stories...

MOORE, OK BUILDING STANDARDS-VO

THE CITY OF MOORE, OKLAHOMA WILL BECOME THE FIRST IN THE COUNTRY WITH BUILDING CODES DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND MAJOR TORNADOES.

THIS IS A DIRECT RESPONSE TO LAST SPRING'S DEVASTATING STORMS THAT WIPED OUT BLOCKS OF THE OKLAHOMA CITY SUBURB.

THE NEW BUILDING CODES WOULD REQUIRE NEW BUILDINGS TO BE STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND WINDS UP TO 135 MILES PER HOUR.

THE CURRENT STANDARDS ARE 90 MILES PER HOUR.

SOME QUICK PERSPECTIVE.135 MILES PER HOUR IS STILL JUST AN EF 2 TORNADO.

THE TORNADO THAT HIT MOORE LAST YEAR WAS AN EF 5.

THE NEW CODES COULD HELP, BUT WON'T PROTECT BUILDINGS FROM ALL TORNADOES. Return to index of stories...

MORE THAN A YEAR AGO TRAGEDY HIT THIS NORTH NAPLES FAMILY.

ELSIE MINARD

09:57:29-:34

Not a day goes by that we don't think about him. I cry, we cry. He's greatly missed.

THE MINARDS SAY THEY FOUND THEIR 25 YEAR OLD SON UNRESPONSIVE IN BED.

RECORDS SHOW EMS SHOWED UP IN 11 MINUTES.

FIVE MINUTES LATER THAN PROJECTED.

CHAZ DIED.

CHARLES MINARD, NORTH NAPLES RESIDENT

09:51:52-:55

No closer to any answers, no response from Collier County at all.

THE CASE HIGHLIGHTS A BIGGER CONCERN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE OVER COUNTY-WIDE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TIMES.

IN JANUARY THEY VOTED TO SPEND 882 THOUSAND TAXPAYER DOLLARS TO IMPROVE OPERATIONS, AND MAKE AN 8-MINUTE RESPONSE TIME GOAL ACROSS THE COUNTY.

JORGE AGUILERA, NNFD DEP. CHIEF

09:41:08-:12

Unfortunately there's still a lack of coordination, I guess is a better word. Add that to a lack of communication.

STANDUP

10:00:40-:50

THE COUNTY PLANS TO GIVE STATION 44 IN NORTH NAPLES 6 MORE PARAMEDICS AND ANOTHER AMBULANCE. BUT NORTH NAPLES SAYS THEY DON'T NEED THE HELP HERE.

JORGE

09:42:17

We do have some areas in our district which are challenging.

BUTT TO

09:43:06-:09

That is one area that is just very well covered.

THE BIG CORKSCREW ISLAND FIRE DISTRICT WILL SOON BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT.

TWICE THE COUNTY DENIED ALLOWING THEM TO DO THAT ALONE.

THEY ALREADY HAVE NINE A-L-S CAPABLE EMPLOYEES.

NOW, COUNTY EMS IS GIVING THEM THREE PARAMEDIC FIREFIGHTERS.

Capt. Eric Watson, Big Corkscrew Island Fire District

09:45:48-:56

Life saving medications, EKG monitors to monitor disrhytmias, IVs, those sort of things.

DISTRICT OFFICIALS SAY THE NEW HIRES WILL COST TAXPAYERS 275 TO 300 THOUSAND DOLLARS

THEY TELL US THEIR ORIGINAL PLAN WAS AROUND ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS CHEAPER.

THE MINARDS SAY THE COUNTY IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE COMMUNITY.

CHARLES MINARD, NORTH NAPLES RESIDENT

09:57:17-:20

I think if they pull together, they'd find that they'd get the help they need.

MORGAN SAYS HE ORDERED THE BILLBOARDS TAKEN DOWN TO AVOID A DISTRACTION WHEN CRIST ANNOUNCED HIS RUN.

HE SAYS *IF* THEY WERE LEFT UP --

THE BILLBOARD COMPANIES ARE RESPONSIBLE.

CRIST'S LAWYER CALLS THE COMPLAINT FRIVOLOUS. SAYING THE SIGNS ARE NOT POLITICAL ADS BUT HAVE A CLEAR BUSINESS PURPOSE.
