GOOD MORNING 2-PLASMA

GOOD MORNING, THANKS FOR JOINING US HERE ON NBC-2 NEWS TODAY.

I'M CLIFTON FRENCH

WE ARE EXPECTING SOME RAIN IN THE DAY AHEAD.

BUT HOW LONG WILL IT LAST.

METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING IS STANDING BY IN THE WEATHER CENTER WITH MORE ON YOUR FORECAST.

Rain chances will be a touch higher today, but with the sea breeze expected to push well inland, that's where most of the showers will stay.

Even for our inland communities like Clewiston, Immokalee, and LaBelle, rain coverage will only be in the "isolated" category, so most of the day will end up being dry.

Aside from the potential for a few inland showers today, we're on track to see a blend of sun and clouds along with some pretty warm temperatures; daytime highs through the weekend should have no trouble reaching the mid 80s.

Sunday will likely be a touch warmer than Saturday with more places getting up to the 85-87 degree range, except for our coastal communities where the sea breeze should cap off temps in the low 80s.

Expect warm and mild weather this evening and tonight. Temps will only cool into the mid 60s overnight, and we'll see the possibility for a little fog early Sunday morning.

After more sunny weather on Sunday, clouds will start increasing from the west Monday as moisture flows in ahead of our next cool front.

A few showers and storms could build in as early as Monday afternoon, and our forecast looks to stay unsettled through the first half of Tuesday.

A slight cool down is on the way by mid week with overnight lows dropping into the 50s Wednesday and Thursday mornings; daytime temps will be coolest Wednesday afternoon with temperatures only peaking in the mid to upper 70s.

Moisture will creep back into the picture toward the end of the week, bringing rain and even some thunderstorms to our forecast by the Thursday/Friday time frame.

Have a great weekend! Return to index of stories...

SCRIPT:

This grainy image of a floating object in the southern search area - 73 feet

long and 42 feet wide.

Spotted by a Chinese satellite over the southern search area.

NATS

The Malaysian transport minister was handed the news AS HE WAS BRIEFING

reporters.

NATS

I WOULDN'T KNOW THIS IS ALL I HAVE

Today the eyes in the sky included 4 military search planes plus 2 private

jets.

Down on the water, a Chinese ice breaker joined in the search.

Tomorrow, China and Japan will dispatch 3 additional search planes.

SOT - Australian PM Tony Abbott

"Tenuous though it inevitably is, this is nevertheless the first credible

evidence of anything that has happened to flight MH370."

But so far despite 5 days scouring a huge swath of open sea, no debris found

.

Officials say it's possible whatever it was in those satellite images

captured 6 days ago has moved because of strong ocean currents.

TRUSS: "It's also possible of course that they've just drifted to the bottom

of the ocean bed."

The searchers have their eyes and instruments focused on the surface.

Watching for "anything that floats."

A debris field, the best clue where to find any larger wreckage below.

NATS

Choppy waves and poor visibility are the least of their challenges.

Even if the searchers do find the missing plane, it'll be a challenge to

recover the cockpit recorders that may finally answer this riddle.

Those so-called 'black boxes' emit locator pings at regular intervals, at

least until the batteries run out. Malaysian officials are now requesting

the US Navy provide underwater microphones like these that can be towed from

a boat to listen for those pings. Return to index of stories...

GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME BACK TO THE FINAL HALF HOUR OF NBC-2 NEWS TODAY.

AND I'M CHRISTY ANDREWS

WE'LL HAVE YOUR TOP STORIES OF THE DAY IN JUST ONE MINUTE.

BUT FIRST YOUR FIRST ALERT FORECAST WITH METEOROLOGIST, JASON DUNNING. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.Rain chances will be a touch higher today, but with the sea breeze expected to push well inland, that's where most of the showers will stay.
