S/ Captain Brett McKinzie / New Zealand Air Force:25 -:30

S/ Flight Lieutenant Eric King / New Zealand Air Force:41 -:44

S/ Bill Neely / NBC News / Perth, Australia:57 - 1:25

THE SEARCH CREWS ARE MULTINATIONAL, THEIR WORK RELENTLESS.

TEAMS FROM FIVE COUNTRIES NOW SCOURING THE INDIAN OCEAN.

A NEW ZEALAND CREW IS ASKED TO LOOK FOR A SINGLE WOODEN PALLET SPOTTED BY A CIVILIAN PLANE EARLIER.

THEIR METHOD- LOOK OUT THE WINDOW. VISIBILITY IS GOOD, BUT FINDING A PALLET IN AN OCEAN IS TOUGH.

"200 MPH, the world is whistling past you, and you are looking for an object in amongst the white caps of the waves."

THEY OPEN A DOOR TO THROW OUT BUOYS TO TRACK THE CURRENT AND TO LOOK FOR STRAPS & BELTS OF VARIOUS COLORS, SPOTTED BY ANOTHER CREW.

" Obviously, its disappointing that we didn't find anything"

HOPE NOT EXPECTATION FOR THIS CREW- JUST TWO HOURS AT THE SEARCH ZONE.

A SHIP SCOURING BELOW THEM. THEN BACK- ANOTHER MISSION DONE, NO DEBRIS SEEN.

"So the crews here now looking for large debris from three satellite images, but also smaller objects.

THE PROBLEM WITH THAT WOODEN PALLET AND THAT MULTI-COLORED STRAPPING OR BELTS IS THAT THEY COULD HAVE JUST AS EASILY COME FROM A PASSING CARGO SHIP AS FROM A CRASHING PLANE.

THE CREWS HERE ARE OPTIMISTIC, THEIR MORALE IS HIGH, BUT THIS ISN'T AN EASY JOB.

BILL NEELY, NBC NEWS, AT THE MAIN SEARCH BASE IN PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

WX RUNDOWN:

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

As we head into the evening and overnight period, clouds will start increasing from the west as moisture flows in ahead of our next cool front.

A few showers and storms could build in as early as Monday afternoon, and our forecast looks to stay unsettled through the first half of Tuesday.

A decent late-season cool down is on the way by mid week with overnight lows dropping into the 50s Wednesday and Thursday morning; daytime temps will be coolest Wednesday afternoon with temperatures only peaking in the mid 70s.

Moisture will creep back into the picture toward the end of the week, bringing rain and even some thunderstorms to our forecast by the Thursday/Friday time frame.

At this point, it's looking like the rain will clear out by the upcoming weekend, leaving us with partly cloud and warm weather with highs back in the mid 80s. Return to index of stories...
