FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXCTR

"An unsettled weather pattern"

After a nice weekend with warm sunshine and mainly dry weather, our pattern will turn a bit unsettled as we head into the upcoming week. First, we have to get through some rain and a few storms, before cooler and drier air briefly settles in.

Clouds will continue to thicken and increase as we head into the mid day hours, with more clouds than sunshine heading into the afternoon. We'll see a few passing showers and downpours from time to time as as they move from west to east out of the Gulf of Meixco. Temperatures will manage to climb into the lower half of the 80s area wide.

As we head into the evening hours, expect mostly cloudy skies and increasing rain chances. Steady rain and even a few isolated storms will move across the area as our next weather system approaches. Temperatures will settle into the middle to upper 60s by morning.

Showers will linger through the pre dawn hours on Tuesday and so will the clouds. Once the cold front passes through, winds will turn more northerly allowing cooler and drier air to spill down the state. Daytime highs will remain unseasonably cool in the middle 70s, while overnight lows dip into the middle 50s by early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will feature more sunshine, along with a nice northeasterly breeze coupled with lower humidity. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 70s. Moisture will build back in across the area on Thursday with scattered showers remaining in the forecast possibly through next Saturday. Return to index of stories...

"We have a road.buried in a mile of muck there may be people in their cars."

WASHINGTON'S GOVERNOR TOURED THE DAMAGE BY AIR…

OBSERVING A SQUARE MILE OF MUD… 60 FEET DEEP IN SOME PLACES… THAT CAME CRASHING DOWN ON AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD SATURDAY WITHOUT WARNING.

IT HAPPENED ABOUT 60 MILES NORTH OF SEATTLE.

A RAIN-SOAKED HILLSIDE GAVE WAY… SWALLOWING EVERYTHING IN ITS PATH. ENVELOPING HOMES IN A THICK MIX OF MUD, TREES AND ROCK.

AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD WIPED OUT.

AMONG THOSE RESCUED: A SIX MONTH OLD BABY.

"Never seen it like this, it's slid a couple times in my life but never nothing like this."

OVERNIGHT, RESCUERS COULD HEAR VOICES COMING FROM THE MUD, BUT IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO GET TO THEM.

"The mud was too thick and deep. They couldn't hear any signs of life once they got closer, so they decided to back out."

THE MUDSLIDE BLOCKED THE STILL AH GAH MISH RIVER… MAKING ANOTHER NATURAL DISASTER IN THE AREA-A FLOOD-- A REAL POSSIBILITY.

"Don't think for a minute, you're the only one who can't let go of old gadgets. A recent survey by u-sell-dot-com found 68 percent of us suffer from 'compulsive gadget hoarding'"

WHICH IS WHY SPRING CLEANING THIS YEAR MIGHT NEED TO INCLUDE ELIMINATING GADGET CLUTTER. AND CONSIDER, FOR EXAMPLE, MAKING MONEY SELLING IT ONLINE.

"Ebay is one of them. Amazon actually has a way to do this, and Craigslist. These are all sites where you can go to to sell all of your junk in one place"

IF OFFERING ONLINE, MAKE SURE YOU BUILD IN EXPENSES.LIKE 3RD PARTY FEES. OR SHIPPING COSTS. INTO YOUR SELLING PRICE.

BUT DEFINITELY SELLING IS BETTER THAN JUST SITTING.

"Chances are it could be something that you can cash in on and make some extra dough as you roll into a new season"

ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE IS TO CHECK WITH RETAILERS. LIKE STAPLES.WHO NOW OFFER STORE CREDIT.

"so you can bring in any of your old devices and we can get a quote for you on how much money we can give you"

OR.WALMART.WHERE THERE'S A NEW TRADE-IN PROGRAM FOR VIDEO GAMES.

"What the retailers are really accomplishing is making sure the next item you buy is from them"

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS.

THE KELLEY FAMILY FROM MASSACHUSETTS FOUND QUITE A SURPRISE IN THEIR BACKYARD WHEN THEY WENT TO LET THEIR DOG OUT SUNDAY MORNING.

THEY HAD A HARD TIME MAKING IT OUT IT FIRST - BUT GETTING CLOSER, IT TURNED OUT TO BE A DEER.

REPORTER MARIO HILARIO BRINGS US THE STORY AND THE AMAZING VIDEO. Return to index of stories...

DEER STUCK IN FENCE-PKG

IT STARTED SUNDAY MORNING WHEN DIXIE THE DOG WAS BARKING IN THE BACK YARD. 7 YEAR OLD GRANT KELLEY WAS THE FIRST TO SEE IT.

"We looked outside and we thought it was two huge branches but then we looked on the other side and we saw a huge head."

THAT'S RIGHT, WHAT LOOKED LIKE TWO BRANCHES TURNED OUT TO BE THE LEGS OF A DEER, STUCK IN THE KELLEYS' BACK YARD FENCE IN ATTLEBORO.

"Probably just jumped over here and got caught didn't make it all the way over there"

LUCKILY, AT THE TIME DAD WAS JUST COMING HOME FROM WORKING THE OVERNIGHT SHIFT.

"dad there's a deer out back"

SO OUT BRIAN KELLEY CAME.TO THE DEER'S RESCUE.

"I started to pet the back of the deer to calm him down cause he was kicking"

THEN HE STARTED THE CAREFUL PROCESS OF FREEING THE ANIMAL.

"i started to gently free the bottom legs first, release the pickets and then was able to move the deer gently off the top of the fence"

"THIS IS WHERE THE DEER WAS STUCK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE KELLEY'S FENCE, AFTER THE ANIMAL WAS FREED, IT TOOK OFF IN THIS DIRECTION BACK INTO THE WOODS"

KATE KELLEY CAPTURED HER HUSBAND'S RESCUE MISSION ON VIDEO.

"And we are all animal lovers in this family so we were thrilled to see it ended well" "we were very fortunate and so we named it lucky" Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

AMY OSHIER HAS MORE IN OUR HEALTH MATTERS REPORT. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

PKG:

AS FAR AS GENE WILSON KNEW, HIS NIGHTLY TRIPS TO THE BATHROOM

WERE A NATURAL PART OF LIFE.

GENE WILSON/BPH PATIENT

RUNS:

5:09 I kept telling them the old people, everybody I know they get up three-four times a

night.

COMMON YES, NORMAL NO. BY THE TIME THEY HIT THEIR 60s, MORE THAN HALF

OF MEN EXPERIENCE URINARY PROBLEMS DUE TO AN OVERGROWN PROSTATE. THE

CLINICAL NAME IS BPH- IT'S A NON-CANCEROUS ENLARGEMENT OF THE PROSTATE

THAT CAN BLOCK THE FLOW OF URINE.

DR. BLAKE EVANS/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

2:54: The most commonly described symptoms are frequency, going to the bathroom a

lot. Waking up at night to go. Not being able to empty your bladder completely. Sometimes

some urgency to get to the bathroom.

GENE'S 'GOING' PROBLEM REVEALED ITSELF IN THE HOSPITAL FOLLOWING SPINE

SURGERY. HE WASN'T VOIDING PROPERLY SO DOCTORS INSERTED A CATHETER.

DR. BLAKE EVANS/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

5:45 Most patients don't know what a "normal" patients void is like, so they think they're

normal until they run into a problem like not being able to go at all.

GENE & AMY 2-SHOT

RUNS:

:05 I thought I was doing pretty well, they checked the bladder and they found out I had

500 cc's left. It was still full.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Doctors can peer into the bladder using an ultrasound to see how much urine is left behind.

When the bladder doesn't empty properly, it increases the risk of urinary infections. So

patients may be put on a catheter while doctors treat the condition.

DR. BLAKE EVANS/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

4:10 The medications we normally start are called alpha blockers and they help to

relax the urinary sphincters so that when the bladder contracts you're able to empty

your bladder more completely. If medications don't work for them and they're still

symptomatic then we can move to more invasive therapies.

INCLUDING LASER TREATMENT OR SURGERY TO WIDEN THE URETHRA OR

RESECTION THE PROSTATE. TREATMENTS GENE WAS ABLE TO AVOID.

GENE WILSON/BPH PATIENT

RUNS:

4:30 All in all, mine was very simple and we didn't have to do anything drastic.

WITH THE USE OF MEDICATION, GENE'S 'GOING' PROBLEM- IS GONE. FOR LEE

MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
