THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"An unsettled weather pattern"

After a nice weekend with warm sunshine and mainly dry weather, our pattern will turn a bit unsettled as we head into the upcoming week. First, we have to get through some rain and a few storms, before cooler and drier air briefly settles in.

Clouds will continue to thicken and increase as we head into the mid day hours, with more clouds than sunshine heading into the afternoon. We'll see a few passing showers and downpours from time to time as as they move from west to east out of the Gulf of Meixco. Temperatures will manage to climb into the lower half of the 80s area wide.

As we head into the evening hours, expect mostly cloudy skies and increasing rain chances. Steady rain and even a few isolated storms will move across the area as our next weather system approaches. Temperatures will settle into the middle to upper 60s by morning.

Showers will linger through the pre dawn hours on Tuesday and so will the clouds. Once the cold front passes through, winds will turn more northerly allowing cooler and drier air to spill down the state. Daytime highs will remain unseasonably cool in the middle 70s, while overnight lows dip into the middle 50s by early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will feature more sunshine, along with a nice northeasterly breeze coupled with lower humidity. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 70s. Moisture will build back in across the area on Thursday with scattered showers remaining in the forecast possibly through next Saturday. Return to index of stories...

IF YOU ARE HOLDING ONTO THAT OLD CAR OF YOURS, EXPERTS SAY ITS NOT GOING TO REMAIN A SELLER'S MARKET FOR TOO MUCH LONGER.

THE WINDOW TO SELL YOUR USED CAR AT A GREAT PRICE MAY BE SLOWLY CLOSING.

DURING THE RECESSION PEOPLE HELD ONTO THEIR USED CARS, SO THE INVENTORY OF USED CARS AVAILABLE FOR SALE WAS LOW AND THE AVERAGE SALES PRICE WAS INFLATED.

BUT NOW AS THE ECONOMY IS RECOVERING, PEOPLE ARE GETTING RID OF THEIR OLD CARS -- AND INVENTORY IS GOING UP. THE NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION SAYS THAT USED CAR PRICES ARE ABOUT TO SEE THEIR FIRST DECLINE IN FIVE YEARS.

AND IT SAYS A CAR'S ANNUAL DEPRECIATION RATE WILL JUMP FROM 11-PERCENT IN 2009 TO 16-PERCENT THIS YEAR.

NOW IF YOU DECIDE TO SELL YOUR CAR EXPERTS SAY YOU WILL GET THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK BY SELLING IT YOURSELF AND NOT TRADING IT IN AT A DEALERSHIP. ON AVERAGE YOU'LL SEE TEN TO 15-PERCENT MORE.

AND BECAUSE SUPPLY IS GOING TO BE RISING EXPERTS ALSO SAY YOU NEED TO BE PATIENT. IT TAKES, ON AVERAGE, BETWEEN SIX AND TEN WEEKS TO SELL A USED CAR.

IT'S A BUSY FIRST DAY FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA ON THIS FIRST DAY OF HIS EUROPEAN TOUR.

THE PRESIDENT'S HERE IN THE NETHERLANDS, THE HOST COUNTRY FOR THE NUCLEAR SECURITY SUMMIT, THE THIRD ONE THAT'S BEEN HELD SINCE PRESIDENT OBAMA LAUNCHED THIS INITIATIVE BACK IN 2010.

BUT THE HIGHLIGHT TODAY IS NOT GONNA BE THE SUMMIT ITSELF, IT'S A SIDELINE MEETING THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS CALLED WITH THE G-7 NATIONS.

NOW OF COURSE THIS NO LONGER IS THE G-8, WHICH USED TO HAVE RUSSIA INCLUDED, THIS NOW IS THE OLD G-7 AGAIN, THE OLD COLD WAR ERA INSTITUTION THAT USED TO MEET YEARLY BASICALLY AS A CHECK ON RUSSIA.

WELL, THAT'S WHAT THE DISCUSSION IS TODAY.

HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE CHECK ON RUSSIA.

"Europe and America are united in our support of the Ukrainian government and Ukrainian people. We are united in imposing a cost on Russia for its actions so far."

THE PRESIDENT'S GOAL IS TO TRY AND GET THE EUROPEANS MORE COMFORTABLE DOING TOUGHER ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA AND PRESIDENT PUTIN OVER THERE.

THE UNITED STATES HAS CALLED FOR SOME TOUGHER SANCTIONS.

THE EUROPEANS HAVE BEEN A LITTLE RETICENT TO DO THAT BECAUSE THEIR ECONOMY, MUCH MORE INTERTWINED WITH THE RUSSIAN ECONOMY, THAN THE UNITED STATES.

NOW AS FOR THE NUCLEAR SECURITY SUMMIT, IT ACTUALLY ALREADY HAS A BIG DELIVERABLE.

THE UNITED STATES ANNOUNCING THAT THEY WILL DESTROY JAPAN'S HIGHLY ENRICHED URANIUM.

THEY HAD A PRETTY LARGE STOCKPILE OF THAT.

JAPAN NOW BECOMES THE 13TH NATION TO GIVE UP ITS HIGHLY ENRICHED URANIUM STOCKPILE SINCE PRESIDENT OBAMA LAUNCHED THIS NUCLEAR SECURITY SUMMIT BACK IN 2010.

SO A PRETTY GOOD DELIVERABLE THERE.

And so for the rest of the President's trip, he spends another day here in the Netherlands, then it's off to Brussels for a summit with the European Union, then it's Rome on Thursday with his first meeting with Pope Francis and then he concludes with an important summit of sorts with the kind of Saudi Arabia. SIMPLE PACKAGING AT THE RIGHT PRICE.

FOOD COMPANIES MAKE IT EASY TO FEED CHILDREN ON THE GO.

BUT NUTRITION CAN GET LOST IN ALL THE CONVENIENCE.

ERIKA EDWARDS REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

CHEAP HEALTH SNACKS-CLIP PKG

FINDING HEALTHY -- AND AFFORDABLE -- FOODS THAT KIDS ACTUALLY LIKE CAN BE A BATTLE FOR MANY PARENTS.

"There's a stigma that eating healthy can cost more money but I think knowing which products to purchase that are more cost effective. you can actually save a tremendous amount of money and make healthier choices at the same time."

DIETITIANS AT CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA COMPARED FIVE POPULAR KID SNACKS -- WITH HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVES -- AND NETTED OUT THE PRICE DIFFERENCE OVER A YEAR.

"It's over $2,000 in cost savings that a family can achieve."

ONE COMMON GO-TO SNACK: THE GRANOLA BAR. THEY COST AT LEAST TWO DOLLARS A BOX -- AND EXPERTS SAY IF THEY HAVE CHOCOLATE DRIZZLED ON THEM OR COATING ON THE BOTTOM -- THEY'RE ESSENTIALLY CANDY.

"Nutritionally it's very similar to a candy bar. A better choice there for a snack would be an applesauce cup and a cheese stick."

. BUT BE SURE TO CHECK THE LABEL OF THE ULTRA-CONVENIENT POUCHES OF APPLESAUCE.

"To get it in that pouch to get it in a form that you can squeeze out they add juice to it or sugar to it."

MANY PARENTS OVERLOOK THE FOUR DOLLAR PRICE TAG OF FRUIT SMOOTHIES FOR THE APPARENT HEALTH BENEFITS -- BUT THOSE ALSO CAN BE PACKED WITH ADDED SUGAR.

"A much more economical and better choice is to buy your own yogurt and add into that fruit."

AND EXPERTS SAY MANY OF THOSE CHEWY FRUIT SNACKS ARE DECEIVING -- MOST ARE JUST FOOD COLORING AND SUGAR.

"These of course are going to be much more nutritious than the fruit snacks for our kids."

OTHER HEALTHY AND CHEAP SWITCHES -- CARROTS AND PEANUT BUTTER INSTEAD OF SALTY CHIPS -- AND WATER INSTEAD OF SODA.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

CHURCH RIFLE RAFFLE-VO PLASMA

A NEW YORK CHURCH RAFFLE IS GETTING A LOT OF ATTENTION.

THIS CHURCH NEAR ALBANY DID MORE THAN SING AND PRAY SUNDAY.

IT RAFFLED OFF AN AR-15 RIFLE.

DAN BAZILE HAS THE MUST SEE STORY. Return to index of stories...

CHURCH RIFLE RAFFLE-PKG

GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH ON FORTH AVENUE IN TROY IS NORMALLY NOT THIS PACKED FOR SERVICE. BUT SUNDAY HAD SOMETHING EXTRA IN THE PROGRAM -- THE CHURCH DECIDED TO GIVE AWAY A RIFFLE.

"Does it feel controversial to you that a church is giving away an AR-15. No, not really. It's part of life, especially in this area."

PEOPLE CAME FROM AS FAR AWAY AS NEW YORK CITY TO TAKE PART IN THE RAFFLE FOR A FREE AR-15. ASSEMBLYMAN STEVE MCLAUGHLIN, WHO SPOKE DURING THE SERVICE, ADMITS IT MAY SOUND UNUSUAL TO SOME PEOPLE THAT A PLACE OF WORSHIP, A PLACE FOR PEACE IS RAFFLING OFF A WEAPON.

Melrose:39-:46

"Yes is it unusual, it's unusual. Is it illegal, absolutely not. And it's not unethical either. And the people have every right to support the second amendment. I hope everybody does."

MCLAUGHLIN SAYS PEOPLE HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES AND LAWS LIKE THE SAFE ACT IS EATING AWAY AT IT.

BUT REVEREND JOHN KOLETAS SAYS EVEN THOUGH HE'S AGAINST THE NEW YORK SAFE ACT, THIS IS NOT IN PROTEST OF THE LAW. HE SAYS HE'S SHOWING SUPPORT FOR GUN OWNERS AND HUNTERS AFFECTED BY THE LAW.

HE SAYS THE GIVEAWAY IS WELL WITHIN THE PRINCIPLES OF CHRISTIAN BELIEF.

"This is doing exactly what we've always done for the last two thousand years since Jesus walked the shores of Galilee."

AFTER NEARLY THREE HOURS OF SERMON, SINGING AND SPEECHES FROM TWO DIFFERENT GUESTS, RON STAFFORD WAS THE BIG WINNER.

"It felt like I was at home and I felt like I was with the majority of all Americans."

STAFFORD WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK, IF HE QUALIFIES, HE'LL BE ABLE TO PICK UP HIS WEAPON AT OAKWOOD TRADING POST IN TROY.

"We need to come out more in the glory of God to do something to this extent."

THIS IS NOT OVER YET, REVEREND KOLETAS DECIDED IT'S ONLY FAIR TO DO IT AGAIN AS EARLY AS MONDAY NIGHT.

HE'LL BE GIVING AWAY A SECOND AR-15 AT THE CHURCH. Return to index of stories...
