Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

CLOUDY WITH A FEW SHOWERS

Clouds have already moved into Southwest Florida this morning and there are a few showers on the way. We'll see mostly cloudy skies through the day and temperatures will reach into the low to mid 80s. There will be some showers moving into the area. A few showers will arrive by midday, but the most active time for the rain will be later today on through tomorrow morning.

We'll keep plenty of cloud cover for Tuesday along with the scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms. Highs will top out in the upper 70s tomorrow. By late Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours, the rain will come to an end and the skies will begin to clear. As the skies clear, cooler weather will move into Southwest Florida.

Breezy, cooler weather will be on the way for Wednesday behind this weather system. We'll start the day with temperatures in the lower 50s in our urban locations and inland areas will cool all the way into the upper 40s.

This cool down doesn't last long; we'll be back in the lower 80s by Friday. We're also bringing in another rain chance by the end of the week. Return to index of stories...

areas.

"THE CONDITIONS ARE VERY, VERY MUDDY IN PLACES. IT IS STILL LIKE QUCKSAND.

/ OTHER AREAS ARE JUST NOT ACCESIBLE AT THIS TIME.

Pictures from above the scene show the scope -- this rural community north

It looks as if the whole side of the mountain came crashing down.

SOT Sheriff Trenary

"TOTAL DEVASTATION. I MEAN IT'S JUST UNBELIEVABLE. IT REMINDS ME OF WHAT A

TORNADO LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT'S TOUCHED THE GROUND."

SOT Gov. Inslee

"THERE REALLY IS NO STICK STANDING IN THE PATH OF THE SLIDE."

At least 18 people are still missing, including Reed Miller's son.

SOT voice of: Reed Miller, Father of Missing Person

"IF HE'S STILL ALIVE, WHO KNOWS WHAT KIND OF CONDITIONS HE'S IN."

Sean Wright and two other men struggled through the soupy mud to find a

mother and child laying in the remains of their home. They used chain saws

to cut them out.

SOT Sean Wright

"WHERE WE GOT HER WAS JUST DEBRIS. YOU COULD'T TELL ANYTHING ABOUT THE

HOUSES -- IT WAS JUST ALL DEBRIS."

Nearly 30 homes were destroyed or damaged.

Several people hospitalized, including a 5-month old infant.

SOT Cherene Graber, Evacuee

On Saturday, rescuers reported hearing screams from trapped people. But now

officials say the voices are gone.

-ALSO.LOOK FOR A CURRICULUM THAT WILL GIVE YOU REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE.

-FINALLY.MAKE SURE YOUR PLANS ARE REALISTIC.

HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF OR YOUR KIDS BEFORE SELECTING A MAJOR

-WILL YOUR MAJOR MAJOR/CAREER CHOICE ALLOW YOU TO MEET YOUR FAMILY OBLIGATIONS?

-WILL YOU EARN ENOUGH WITH THAT MAJOR AFTER COLLEGE TO PAY OFF YOUR DEBT?
