FIRST WEATHER-ANIBOX STC

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"An unsettled weather pattern"

After a nice weekend with warm sunshine and mainly dry weather, our pattern will turn a bit unsettled as we head into the upcoming week. First, we have to get through some rain and a few storms, before cooler and drier air briefly settles in.

For the rest of the afternoon we'll continue to see steady rains moving in from the Gulf of Mexico. Due to the mostly cloudy to overcast sky conditions, temperatures remained in the upper 60s to lower half of the 70s areas wide. As we head into the evening hours, expect mostly cloudy skies and increasing rain chances. Scattered rain and even a few isolated storms will move across the area as our next weather system approaches. Temperatures will settle into the middle to upper 60s by morning.

Showers will linger through the pre dawn hours on Tuesday and so will the clouds. Once the cold front passes through, winds will turn more northerly allowing cooler and drier air to spill down the state. Daytime highs will remain unseasonably cool in the middle to upper 70s, while overnight lows dip into the lower to middle 50s by early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will feature more sunshine, along with a nice northeasterly breeze coupled with lower humidity. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 70s. Moisture will begin to move back in across the area late in the week, with scattered showers back in the forecast by the weekend. Return to index of stories...

ABANDONED BABY FOUND-PKG

I'm at a loss for words.

MICHAEL ALLEN WAS CLOSING HIS CURTAINS LAST NIGHT WHEN HE SAW AN ABANDONED STROLLER SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF RENAISSANCE PLAYGROUND -- JUST OUTSIDE HIS APARTMENT.

SOMETHING DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT AND WHEN HE WENT TO CHECK IT OUT.

I couldn't believe my eyes there was a baby in the stroller.

A BABY BOY. JUST 4 MONTHS OLD. WRAPPED IN WARM CLOTHES BUT COMPLETELY ALONE.

NO PARENTS -- NO GUARDIANS -- NO ADULTS AT ALL IN SIGHT.

He was really dressed warm, really alert, really fine. there was formula down there -- seemed like he was packed up, he was packed up and wrapped very well.

ALLEN FLAGGED DOWN A FIRE TRUCK THAT WAS JUST PULLING IN TO THE STATION ACROSS THE STREET.

FIREFIGHTERS BROUGHT THE BABY INSIDE THE STATION TO WARM HIM UP.

He is adorable. He is adorable got the most gorgeous eyes he kept staring at me. his eyes was just piercing me like I know it was you that got me out of this cold!

ALLEN FEELS A BOND WITH THE BABY. HE AND FIREFIGHTERS NICKNAMED "LITTLE SUNDAY."

HE BROUGHT ONE OF HIS OWN CHILDREN'S STUFFED TEDDY BEARS TO HARLEM HOSPITAL THIS MORNING FOR THE BABY.

AND SAYS HE WON'T REST EASY -- UNTIL HE KNOWS THE BABY HE RESCUED -- THE ONE HE CALLS A FIGHTER -- IS SAFE IN A LOVING HOME.

If there's something I could do or something I could say to have the child I would do that. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

CKS TESTING IN EDUCATION.

THEY CLAIMED THIS SCHOLARSHIP PUT MINORITY AND LOW INCOME STUDENTS AT A DISADVANTAGE BECAUSE THEY DO WORSE ON STANDARDIZED TESTS.

Bob Shaeffer, FairTest

HE NEVER HEARD BACK UNTIL 12 YEARS LATER. NOW THE FEDS SAY THEY'RE INVESTIGATING.

SCHAEFFER'S MAIN ARGUMENT IS THE SAME: RICH FAMILIES WHO CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR COLLEGE SEND THEIR STUDENT TO TEST PREP CLASSES. MEANWHILE POOR, MINORITY STUDENTS WHO ACTUALLY NEED THE MONEY ARE SLIGHTED.

Bob Shaeffer, FairTest

12:02:14 when we're locking out a large and growing percentage of our students from these prestigious and economically rewarding awards, we're hurting the state's future. 12:02:25

INSIDE THE STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER AT EDISON STATE - HIGH SCHOOL GRADS WHO DIDN'T RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP SAY THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE THERE'S AN IMBALANCE.

Jacob Zander, Edison St

12:24:39 I don't think an sat prep group will really help you. If you study and put the hard work into what you're doing that will help you. 12:24:48

IT WAS A NORMAL DAY AT THE BEACH FOR KITE SURFER KURT HOFFMAN, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, HE SAYS HIS ARM FELT LIKE IT GOT CAUGHT IN A BEAR TRAP.

"Started to go down the face of the wave and wham."

A SHARK BIT DOWN ON HOFFMAN'S FOREARM AS HE WAS DRAGGING IT IN THE WATER AT DELRAY BEACH.

"You can see the teeth marks and around, it's about 7 inches wide, the width of the mouth and it's pretty intense cause it kind of shocks your system at the moment when it hits."

HOFFMAN CALLED HIS WIFE, DIANE, TO TAKE HIM TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.

DOCTORS LEFT THE WOUNDS OPEN TO SEEP BECAUSE OF THE BACTERIA SHARKS CARRY IN THEIR MOUTHS.

LUCKY FOR HIM, THE SHARK BIT AND LET GO, CAUSING MORE THAN A DOZEN PUNCTURE WOUNDS, BUT HE SAID, IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE.

"I can still move my arm and fingers. no tendons were damaged."

IT'S THAT'S NOT STOPPING THIS KITE SURFING INSTRUCTOR FROM HITTING THE WAVES ANYTIME SOON.

LEE COUNTY DEPUTIES RETURNED TO THE SCENE OF A HOME INVASION MONDAY AFTERNOON. ON FRIDAY DEPUTIES SPENT HOURS AT 4701 SWANSON LOOP IN NORTH FORT MYERS, AFTER 63 YEAR OLD ROBERT MABRY CLAIMED TWO MEN KNOCKED ON HIS DOOR CLAIMING THEY WERE JAHOVAS WITNESSES.

WHEN HE OPENED THE DOOR, MABRY TOLD DEPUTIES, ONE OF THE MEN HIT HIM ACROSS THE FACE WITH A HANDGUN. HE WAS THEN TIED UP, AND THE TWO MEN DEMANDED PILLS, MONEY AND GUNS.

SOT-KATHRYN THOMAS

"i saw lots and lots of police cars and an ambulance and I was shocked because it's usually quiet around here. "

DEPUTIES SAY, THE THEIVES STOLE MABRY'S CAR AND NEARLY A DOZEN OF HIS GUNS. THE VEHCILE WAS RECOVERED ON SATURDAY AT PARK VILLA APARTMENTS ON ROYAL PALM AVENUE IN FORT MYERS.

MABRY REFUSED MEDICAL TREATMENT. AUTHORITIES BELIEVE THE CRIME WAS ISOLATED. SOMETHING, NEIGHBORS SAY, THEY SPECULATED ALL ALONG.

SOT-RICK LANGBAUER-NEIGHBOR

something like that you go to the hospital, so that's what makes me think there's something more.

SOT-THOMAS

I think something happened between him and somebody else and that's why they knew to go to that apartment because all the apartments look the same.

DEPUTIES SAY, THEY WERE AT THIS SAME ADDRESS LAST MONTH WHEN MABRY DROPPED A GUN AND IT DISCHARGED THROUGH HIS NEIGHBOR'S WALL. RESIDENTS TELL ME, THEY NO LONGER FEEL SAFE.

SOT-RICK

I think it does upset some people and now they won't be taking their walks like they used to or ride their bikes like they used to.
