FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

As the rain makes an exit this afternoon, more weather changes are coming as cooler, drier air begins spilling into Southwest Florida.

The clouds and rain will gradually thin out through the afternoon and evening, leaving us with cooler and windier weather for the second half of our Tuesday.

Afternoon highs will be in the mid 70s, but temperatures will drop quickly through the evening and overnight period, falling all the way to the 40s for parts of Southwest Florida by Wednesday morning.

For those of us closer to the coast, we'll start off tomorrow morning with lows around 50 degrees along with a stiff northerly breeze that'll make the air feel even colder.

Locations deeper inland like Arcadia, Palmdale and LaBelle will even drop as low as the mid to upper 40s early Wednesday morning.

After the chilly start tomorrow morning, highs will only rebound into the lower 70s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will continue to be a factor in our weather tomorrow as wind gusts reach 20-30 mph!

Cloud cover, temperatures and humidity will increase through the end of the week and by this weekend we are looking at scattered showers back in Southwest Florida. Return to index of stories...

THE FED RECENTLY TAPERED THE STIMULUS, BUT INTEREST RATES REMAIN AT ALL-TIME LOWS.

THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR RETIREES TO LIVE OFF SAVINGS ACCOUNTS.THEY HAVE TO TAKE ON MORE RISK.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP TO DISCUSS A SOLUTION TO THIS CHALLENGE. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLAS-(5)CG

First, just a quick note on where we see interest rates going…Although our year-end target for the 10 year treasury is 3.5%, we don't think the Fed will raise short term interest rates for another 18 to 24 months which will continue to place a ceiling on rates making it difficult for fixed income investors to generate returns without taking on more risk.

· In past decades, most retirees had several sources of guaranteed income including perhaps a couple of pensions and their social security check. Twenty years ago, investors could also invest in principally protected investments like CDs or treasuries yielding 7 or 8 percent.

· Today, most Americans are retiring with only one guaranteed paycheck, their monthly social security allowance. And in many cases, it's not even enough to cover their basic expenses.

· Retirees today also have two other significant risks they must manage and plan for. The first of these is longevity risk or the risk of outliving your retirement income or nest egg. The other risk is market risk or the risk of losing your nest egg in down markets. Both risks are very real and can tear apart a retirement plan if not hedged properly.

· As financial advisors our job is to make sure your retirement plan is foolproof. It's making sure that you won't outlive your retirement income. The only way you can do that is to ensure that all of your essential expenses are covered with guaranteed, lifetime income streams. Just like you go to your medical doctor to extend your longevity, our job is to extend the longevity of your retirement portfolio by creating sustainable streams of lifetime income.

· If you are not currently covering all of your basic expenses with corporate or government pensions and social security, consider "pensionizing" a portion of your nest egg to make up for any shortfall. The only financial instrument you can purchase that can take both market risk and longevity risk off the table and provide you with a guaranteed pension or paycheck for life is an annuity.

· After you have made sure that all your base expenses are covered with guaranteed income, then optimize the rest of your portfolio to take inflation risk off the table using riskier assets like stocks and real estate. This portion of your retirement portfolio can give you rising income over the long term. If you don't have a fool proof plan in place, call you financial advisor today.

FOOD PRICES-ONCAM

FROM RESTAURANTS TO THE GROCERY STORE, IT'S GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE TO FEED YOUR FAMILY.

NBC'S KERRY SANDERS REPORTS WHY FOOD PRICES ARE RISING. Return to index of stories...

FOOD PRICES-PKG

THE COST OF FEEDING YOUR FAMILY IS UP …. AND STILL CLIMBING.

SOT GROCERY STORE MANAGER

For the last month, prices have been just high, very high.

FROM PRODUCE TO MEAT TO DAIRY.

NATS cow

CONSUMERS ARE PAYING MORE OR GETTING LESS.

A NEW REPORT BY THE BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS SAYS FOOD PRICES ARE UP 0.4 PERCENT IN JUST THE FIRST MONTH OF THIS YEAR. THAT'S THE BIGGEST INCREASE SINCE SEPTEMBER- 2011.

KERRY STANDUP WITH GRAPHICS:

So how much more will you pay? Say you want to have a burger.

Well, the price of beef is up 5.4% from this time last year.

Want some bacon on that? The price of pork is up 4%.

Slice of tomato? Up 6.9%.

And how about some fries? Potatoes are up 9.2%.

And if you have kids, they might want a glass of milk. You'll pay 2.6% more for that too.

NATS restaurant

AT RESTAURANTS - FOOD PRICES…AND IN TURN MENU PRICES….ARE ALSO GOING UP.

SOT LAVONNE ALLEN/THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER DINER, FIREBAUGH, CA

You're going to see it in markets, you're gonna see it when you go out to dinner. It's going to affect all of us greatly.

WHY THE INCREASE? ECONOMISTS BLAME THE SEVERE DROUGHT IN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. MAINLY CALIFORNIA.AND TEXAS.

SOT RONNIE WILSON/TEXAS FARMER:

We gotta have some rain or this country's gonna look like a desert.

BUT SO FAR…THAT NEEDED RAIN IS ABSENT…

AND FARMERS LIKE RONNIE WILSON IN WILBARGER COUNTY, TEXAS ARE SUFFERING…

SOT RONNIE WILSON/TEXAS FARMER

I don't know if it will recover. I don't have a clue. We're trying. All we can do is try.

CATTLE RANCHERS SAY THE DROUGHT ALSO MEANS ANIMAL FEED COSTS MORE…

SOT CINDY TEWS/CATTLE RANCHER

What i'm hearing from fellow ranchers is panic. It's concern.

BEEF LOVERS: A CATTLEMAN'S PAIN IS YOUR PAIN.

SOT MARK THOMPSON/FRESNO-KINGS COUNTY CATTLEMEN'S ASSOCIATION

It means that probably you're gonna be paying more for that steak when you go to the supermarket or for that hamburger when you go to the drive-in.

THIS TIME OF YEAR…CALIFORNIA'S LIKE THE NATIONS FARMERS MARKET.

BUT WITH 95 PERCENT OF THAT STATE IN A DROUGHT…

FOR CONSUMERS, IT'S BAD NEWS…WHEREVER YOU SHOP…

MOS

"I still have to pay what I pay at the grocery store.
