Tonight in Australia, searchers for flight 370 returned empty handed --

SOT/Capt. Peter Moore, flying officer - We investigated a couple of visual

contacts, but it turned out to just be marine mammal activity.

A frustrating outcome after French satellites spotted a debris field of more

than 120 objects in the southern Indian Ocean.

Crews scrambled to the area, but when they got there, most of the debris was

gone.

SOT/Flight Lt. Dave Smith, Royal New Zealand Air Force - One possible man-

made object. unable to verify

It's an agonizing wait for families of the 239 missing. Some relatives still

in denial that the plane crashed 18 days ago.

NAT POP - Why would you conclude that no one survived? one man

asked Malaysian authorities today.

Investigators are eager to provide proof, and today got help from the US

Navy. which sent a submersible black box locator like this one.

SOT/Paul Nelson, Phoenix International - Operators will sit in front of this

screen listening for any indication that the pinger is heard. The pinger

underwater sounds like this

But first search teams need a big break. those boxes now two miles deep,

somewhere in an area the size of Alaska.

Until they're found, what brought the plane down will remain a mystery --

SOT/Chuck Hagel, Defense Secretary - I don't think at this point we can rule

anything in or out / Until we have more information, we don't know Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

WARMER TOMORROW

Clear skies and chilly temperatures are on the way tonight. Winds will continue from the northeast at 10 - 15 this evening and as temperatures drop to the lower 50's tonight, it will be another evening for a sweater or light jacket. Thursday's weather looks fine and we expect mostly sunny skies all day. Winds will gradually turn around to a more southeasterly direction and that should help us warm up to 80 degrees in the afternoon. It looks like it will not be quite as windy tomorrow; however, wind speeds will be around 10 - 15 and a little gusty during the day.

As we continue to look at a changing weekend forecast, it still looks like we will be tracking rain showers as soon as Friday evening. Skies will cloud-up during the day on Friday and showers will move in before sunset. The unsettled weather will bring showers on Saturday and, possibly, again on Sunday morning. Some of the latest computer guidance suggests that the rain may taper off by Sunday afternoon.so it's possible that the end of the weekend might turn out to be rain-free.
