NEW DEVELOPMENTS TODAY IN THE SEARCH FOR THAT MALAYSIAN AIRLINER.

THE SEARCH AREA FOR THE PLANE HAS SHIFTED AFTER NEW ANALYSIS OF RADAR DATA.

BILL NEELY HAS THE LATEST FROM PERTH, AUSTRALIA. Return to index of stories...

MISSING PLANE-PKG

A dramatic new twist today, perhaps the most dramatic so far.

The old search area is 700 miles away and much closer to Perth.

Now why has this happened?

Well it's based on new analysis of radar data, and that analysis has established that the plane was traveling much faster than thought, that it burned more fuel than thought, and therefore that it didn't travel as far south as thought.

"This is still an attempt to search a very large area and for surface debris which will give us an indication of where the main aircraft wreckage is likely to be. This has a long way to go yet."

The good news is that this new search area is much closer to Perth, these planes can get there faster and they can have more time at the scene.

And it's also away from that area of really treacherous weather known as the "Roaring 40s."

Ten planes have gone out today and the very first one of those to come back was a New Zealand P-3.

REPORTER CLOSE:

IT HAS REPORTED SEEING OBJECTS OF INTEREST.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

CLOUDY AND BREEZY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS

It is not as cool this morning as our temperatures are in the lower 60s for most of Southwest Florida to get our Friday started. Skies are mostly cloudy and will stay that way through the day. The models are now picking up on the chance for showers that we have been mentioning for today. You can expect scattered showers mainly during the afternoon and evening. Winds will be coming from the east at 10 - 15 mph with gusts of 20 - 25 mph. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s.

A cold front is headed through Southwest Florida this weekend. This means we will continue to see a good amount of cloud cover tomorrow along with scattered showers. The on Sunday, drier air follows this front and we will even get to see some sunshine.

Sunny weather will stay with us through the first half of next week with highs in the lower 80s. Return to index of stories...

YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO HELP POLICE AND EARN SOME MONEY IN THE PROCESS.

TRISH ROUTTE WITH SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CRIME STOPPERS IS HERE WITH A NEW LIST OF BAD PEOPLE. Return to index of stories...

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-5 SS

We're starting off our list with a career offender, who's been acting out his

criminal ways from coast to coast. Sascha Farnsworth is on the run in Collier

County after violating terms of his state probation for the possession of a

controlled substance. This 43 year old fugitive has been arrested three times

in Naples - all for drug related offenses. But before moving here, he was

jailed in Minnesota for drugs and DUI, in Arizona for domestic battery, and also

in Michigan for the possession of drugs, the illegal possession and sale of a

weapon and yet another DUI. Farnsworth was last known to be living in East

Naples, working as a maintenance man. He is 5'8", 145 pounds and has several

tattoos, including a tear drop under his right eye.

And next up is a woman still on the run following a major drug sting in Lee

County last week. 43 year old Melissa Harper is one of the few remaining

targets of Operation March Madness - a two month investigation that led to

the arrests of 17 drug dealers on Fort Myers Beach last Thursday. Harper is

wanted for two counts of the possession and sale of cocaine. She is a criminal

registrant with a sizeable criminal record - including two bookings in Lee County

and arrests in north Florida for homicide/negligent manslaughter and in Polk

County for grand theft auto and battery on a law enforcement officer. In addition,

she's been sent to state prison five times before, for a grand total of roughly

seven years. Harper is likely still in the area, and could be using the alias of

Melissa Krantz or Melissa Curter. She has several tattoos, including the phrase

"All about God" inked on her left shoulder, the name Melissa on her neck and a

crossed on the middle finger of her left hand.

And next up is Kernan Louis-Marc who went into hiding after his January arrest

for lewd and lascivious behavior on a victim between the ages of 12 and 16.

According to the victim, Louis-Marc had molested her over the course of roughly

four years during time frames when her mom was at work. Despite the trauma

is caused the young girl, she never disclosed the disgusting accusations to

anyone until she recently confided in a friend, who took it upon themselves to

report it to law enforcement. When questioned about the accusations, 43 year

old Louis-Marc refused to cooperate and was immediately arrested for lewd and

lascivious behavior. He bonded out from jail just over 24 hours later, and now

he's seemingly disappeared, never having showed back up in court to face the

allegations or his accuser. Louis-Marc was last known to be living in Lehigh, but

also has connections in Collier County. Upon his arrest, Louis-Marc will be held

without bond in the Lee County Jail.

And rounding out our list is Osman Mendez, who faces two felony warrants, for

violating his probation on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and failure to

register as a sexual offender. This 31 year old felon was convicted in 2007 after

an incident in a South Fort Myers neighborhood where he approached a young

teenage girl, and started making unwanted advances. When she resisted, he

became physically aggressive with her, but fortunately the teen was able to break

free and ran to a friends house to call police. Mendez was soon after arrested

and spent just over two months in jail for his crime. Now a registered sexual

offender, Mendez was court ordered to keep in touch with law enforcement so

they could keep track of him, but instead, he's gone into hiding. Detectives say

Mendez is a high risk sexual offender who has connections to the Bonita Springs

and Fort Myers area. Upon his arrest, Mendez will be held without bond. Return to index of stories...

OBAMA OVERSEAS-PKG

President Obama is in Saudi Arabia today trying to repair ties with that nation, America's largest and most powerful Arab ally.

President Obama will be having a private meeting and dinner with Saudi Arabia's King Abudullah.

Among the topics the two men are likely to discuss- Syria, Iran, Egypt and the role of the Muslim Brotherhood there.

On Syria the Saudis want the U-S to increase its weapons assistant to Syrian rebels in their efforts to oust the Assad regime.

The Saudis are upset that the U-S, President Obama specifically, called off airstrikes in that nation.

On Iran, which is Saudi Arabia's biggest regional rival, the U-S is hoping to reassure the Saudis that their new contacts with Iran, lifting sanctions for limits on the nuclear program in that nation will not undermine the relationship between the two nations.

THIS HORRIFIC TRAIN ACCIDENT IN NEW YORK KILLED FOUR PEOPLE AND INJURED DOZENS OF OTHERS JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE CONDUCTOR HAD LOST FOCUS, MAY EVEN HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP.

UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO SLEEP EXPERT KRISTEN KNUTSON SAYS ITS ANOTHER WAKE UP CALL-- RESEARCH SUGGESTS THAT SLEEP DEPRIVATION IS A GROWING DANGER IN OUR 24/7 SUPER CONNECTED SOCIETY.

"what are your hours, like one to eleven one pm to eleven pm. I sleep all day."

"the overnight shift overwhelming still up during day especially if you're a single mom"

THE PROBLEM IS, EXPERTS SAY FIGHTING SLEEPINESS IS A BATTLE EVERYONE LOSES.

THE DANGEROUSLY TIRED. WILL SOONER OR LATER. LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS. AND THAT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME,

"sleep debt builds up long enough, your brain is going to sleep even for a few seconds called micro sleep you will go to sleep no loud music or cold air going to keep you awake few seconds long time driving a car or vehicle"

"there are tests for drugs and alcohol if you're driving a train bus plane or truck. but there's no breathalyzer for sleepiness: and that means it's up to the driver, conductor or pilot to make that decision."

"people are not good judges of how impaired they are, with respect to sleep loss" Return to index of stories...

FACEBOOK RIGHTS-PKG

THIS MORNING, ONE MINNESOTA STUDENT'S LEGAL BATTLE OVER FACEBOOK POSTS COULD

SEND SHOCKWAVES THROUGH SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY -

A *70 THOUSAND DOLLAR* SETTLEMENT THREE YEARS AFTER THEN-6TH GRADER RILEY

STRATTON - JUST 12 AT THE TIME - POSTED A MESSAGE ABOUT A HALL MONITOR:

GFX SOT - Riley phoner

I posted on my facebook. and said I didn't like this Kathy person. hated

this Kathy person because she was mean.

Despite not using a school computer, riley says she received a detention and

was forced to write a letter of apology. But it didn't end there.

Several days later-school officials received a complaint that riley and a

male classmate were having private conversations on facebook about sex -

again not on school computers. That's when she says school officials MADE A

DEMAND -

GFX SOT - Riley phoner They interrogated me, and told me to give them my

password. / I didn't want detention so I had to give them this.

THE ACLU TAKING ON THE CASE -- SAYING riley's CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS WERE

VIOLATED, LIKE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH and privacy AND WERE SUING FOR -

AMONG OTHER THINGS - "EMOTIONAL DISTRESS"

SOT ACLU: 221459 Students have a lot of free speech rights on campus and but

they are even more enhanced when they are off campus so that made it a more

egregious violation of Riley's constitutional rights.

THE TWO SIDES SETTLED. And while THE SCHOOL DISTRICT is not ADMITting ANY

WRONGDOING THE SUPERINTENDENT NOW SAYING. " be certainly much more

cautious about punishing people for things they say off-campus outside of

school time." THE DISTRICT has also changed its policy and CAN NOW ONLY

SEARCH DEVICES AND ACCOUNTS, IF THERE IS A REASONABLE BELIEF SCHOOL RULES

WERE VIOLATED.

GFX SOT Riley phoner

I lost trust in adults. / I'm just happy it's over.

RILEY IS NOW HOME SCHOOLED. FOR GOOD MORNING AMERICA, GIO BENITEZ, ABC NEWS
