SWFL STORMS-WX CNTR

Round two of the rain is rolling through Southwest Florida this evening, and even a few stronger thunderstorms may form as a cool front works its way through the area.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Glades, Hendry and Collier County through 11 p.m., when we expect the rain to start dwindling.

Gradual clearing is expected overnight, and temperatures will be a little cooler than this morning with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Sunday should end up being a really nice day with tons of sun, lower humidity and temperatures only in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees during the afternoon.

Winds will be a factor in our weather tomorrow as a stiff northerly breeze gusts up to 20-30 mph.

Due to the strong northerly winds, a small craft advisory is posted for the coastal waters through Sunday morning.

Sunday night will be the coolest night of the next seven as temperatures drop to the mid 50s under a mostly clear sky.

The rest of our week is shaping up nicely; it'll be very spring like with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid 80s. Return to index of stories...

CHINESE AUTHORITIES RELEASED A SATELLITE IMAGE TODAY OF WHAT COULD BE DEBRIS FROM MISSING MALAYSIA AIRLINES FLIGHT 370.

TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT RAISED HOPES THAT THIS MYSTERY COULD COME TO AN END.

SO A NEW SATELLITE IMAGE, A GLIMMER OF HOPE, AN EXPANDED SEARCH AREA HERE OFF THE COAST OF PERTH.

MORE PLANES, MORE SHIPS, IT LOOKS GOOD, BUT ACTUALLY THE NEWS FROM HERE NOT PARTICULARLY GOOD HERE TODAY.

SIX PLANES TOOK PART IN THE SEARCH FROM HERE TODAY.

THE CREWS THAT CAME DOWN SAID VISIBILITY WAS ACTUALLY VERY POOR INDEED.

IT WAS LOW CLOUD, BUT UNDERNEATH THE LOW CLOUD WAS ACTUALLY A SEA FOG, WHICH MADE SEARCHING FOR ANYTHING ON THE SURFACE OF THAT OCEAN VERY TOUGH INDEED.

"We did manage to achieve in light of the conditions a hundred percent area coverage. However we were unable to find any evidence of any wreckage or survival equipment from the missing Malaysian aircraft."

BUT LET'S FOR A MOMENT LOOK AT THE POSITIVE SIDE.

REINFORCEMENTS HAVE ARRIVED, PARTICULARLY FROM CHINA, AND REMEMBER TWO-THIRDS OF THE PASSENGERS ONBOARD THE MISSING PLANE ARE FROM CHINA.

THE CHINESE HAVE SENT THREE PLANES, THREE SHIPS, PLUS A CHINESE ICEBREAKER - THEY ARE BEING JOINED BY TWO PLANES FROM JAPAN, BY AN AUSTRALIAN WARSHIP, BY A BRITISH SHIP - SO THE NUMBERS INVOLVED ARE EXPANDING AND THE CREWS ARE OPTIMISTIC THEY WILL FIND SOMETHING.

THE QUESTION IS WHAT?

OVERALL, THE SEARCH IS NOW IN ITS THIRD WEEK - SO FAR IT HAS FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF THE MISSING PLANE.

THE RIDDLE OF THAT PLANE REMAINS.

THIS IS BILL NEELY, NBC NEWS, AT THE MAIN SEARCH BASE HERE IN PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA. Return to index of stories...
