MISSING PLANE-PKG

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Raza, was here in Perth today meeting his Australian counterpart, but also meeting air crews who are at the sharp end of this search.

.a search that Mr Najib would go on until the answers are found.

"we want to provide comfort to the families and we will not rest until answers are indeed found."

For his part the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said this was a difficult search but we're throwing everything we can at it.

"I am confident that everything that possibly can be done to find this aircraft will be done."

And today that meant eight aircraft, nine ships and also a British nuclear-powered submarine.

Tomorrow, Friday, the U-S pinger locator will reach that area. That's the device when towed behind a ship should be able to listen out for sounds from the black box but it's hard to see where they will deploy that at this point because they don't know where the plane went down and won't until they find some wreckage.

Mr Raza was also briefed by those running the search operation here who warned that it was a very, very difficult operation but did hint that there was a change in strategy saying that if they didn't find something soon.

ON CAM:

.they would have to look at perhaps a different approach.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

GREAT WEATHER INTO THE WEEKEND

Our string of nice weather days will continue tomorrow and through the weekend. Skies are partly cloudy this evening and we will clear out and wake up to mostly sunny weather tomorrow. Temperatures tonight will drop to the lower 60's along and near the beaches. Mid 50's will be noted on the inland thermometers, and some patchy ground fog is possible on Friday morning.

Skies will be mostly sunny again tomorrow afternoon with high temperatures recovering to the mid 80's. An afternoon sea breeze will develop along the coast and cap the beach weather around 80 - 82 degrees. The Gulf of Mexico water temperature still sets at a cool 72 degrees.

The weekend outlook is good with partly cloudy weather and warm 80's each day. Rain-free skies are expected this weekend.

A strong cold front is predicted to move toward us next Tuesday and could bring some heavy rain or strong thunderstorms. Forecast models are showing a consistent outlook for rain next Tuesday. Return to index of stories...

Nats- kids playing outside

CHARTER SCHOOL WAS THE PERFECT FIT FOR MICHAEL KAIN.

Nats- I have four kids here

HE'S ALSO A SIXTH GRADE MATH TEACHER AT SIX MILE CHARTER ACADEMY.

IT'S ONE OF FOUR SCHOOLS RUN BY CHARTER SCHOOLS USA WHICH WILL HAVE A LONGER DAY NEXT YEAR.

Michael Kain, 6th grade math Teacher

15:34:58 I thought yeah this is great. We're building in that time and we're giving our students more time to practice and focus on academics 15:35:05

A SCHOOL SPOKESPERSON SAYS THAT'S THE IDEA -- TO GIVE STUDENTS TIME TO REALLY LEARN.

CHARTER SCHOOLS USA HAS EXTENDED THE SCHOOL DAY IN OTHER STATES. RESEARCH SHOWS STUDENTS PERFORM BETTER.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN FLORIDA WILL FULLY IMPLEMENT NEW LEARNING STANDARDS NEXT YEAR - ANOTHER REASON TO ADD MORE CLASS TIME.

Colleen Reynolds, Charter Schools USA

15:28:17 the more we can adapt out learning environment to give the best opportunity for the students to succeed, we're gonna do everything we can do that. 15:28:24

STANDUP "the 30 minute extension means these students will be in school for 7 hours every day. Longer than most district schools in Lee and Collier County."

Kari Logan, Parent

15:33:09 it's not gonna put a rush on some of those classes where they might need the additional time, maybe the teachers will be able to take a little more time as well to assist their students. 15:33:18

PARENTS LIKE KARI LOGAN LIKE THE IDEA.

AND TEACHERS COULD SEE A BIGGER PAY CHECK. THEIR SALARY IS BASED ON PERFORMANCE. SO IF STUDENTS DO BETTER WITH THE LONGER DAY - TEACHERS WILL BE PAID MORE.

GATEWAY CHARTER HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE ALREADY HAVE THE LONG DAY.

COME THIS AUGUST THE CHANGE WILL HIT STUDENTS AT SIX MILE CHARTER ACADEMY - CAPE CORAL CHARTER SCHOOL - GATEWAY CHARTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - AND BONITA SPRINGS CHARTER SCHOOL.
