FOLKS IN ONE PORT CHARLOTTE NEIGHBORHOOD ARE FED UP WITH THE NOISE FROM I-75.

… NOT ONLY DO RESIDENTS HEAR IT - BUT IT'S IN PLAIN SIGHT WITH JUST A TINY BARBED WIRE FENCE SEPARATING BACKYARDS FROM BUSY I-75.

Priscilla Thomaszewicz, Port Charlotte Village "I'm an early riser and I go out on my lanai… oh… it is pretty serious that noise."

YOU'D THINK A PROPOSED PLAN TO EXPAND THE HIGHWAY WOULD UPSET RESIDENTS… BUT THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE IS TRUE.

John Barber, Port Charlotte Village "People have experienced a lot of nuisance and a lot of inconvenience."

ACCORDING TO FDOT, THE ONLY TIME SOUND BARRIERS CAN BE PUT UP IS DURING A ROAD PROJECT -

NOW, THE PITCH TO EXPAND FOUR LANES OF I-75 TO SIX LANES FROM HARBORVIEW ROAD TO KINGS HIGHWAY HAS PEOPLE LIVING IN PORT CHARLOTTE VILLAGE, LIKE PRISCILLA THOMASZEWICZ, EXCITED TO SAY THE LEAST… ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS AREA MEETS FEDERAL AND STATE GUIDELINES TO CONSTRUCT A WALL, UNLIKE OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS.

Priscilla Thomaszewicz, Port Charlotte Village "I've been here four years and I was promised when I came here there would be a wall and we haven't seen it yet and I'd love to see it."

ONCE THAT'S TAKEN CARE OF, RESIDENTS SAY FDOT NEEDS TO LOOK AT ANOTHER PROBLEM - FLOODING.

Priscilla Thomaszewicz, Port Charlotte Village "I don't know if that's caused by the highway…"

SOME TELL US THESE EMBANKMENTS COULD BE CAUSING STORMWATER RUNOFF TO FLOW ON TO THE STREETS HERE… FDOT SAYS THEY'RE GOING TO LOOK INTO IT.

AS FAR AS CONSTRUCTION GOES, FDOT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE START DATE - BUT CREWS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE IN LATE NEXT YEAR.

LIFE FOR BOATERS NEAR MOORINGS BAY IS SLOW GOING.

BUT SOON-- THESE SIGNS WILL BE GONE.

AND NO SPEED ZONE IN PLACE.

Marilyn Tempest

Moorings Bay Resident

it's a danger to both the boats and the people

THE ISSUE STARTED AT NAPLES BAY.

BOATERS ARGUED THE CITY COULD NOT LEGALLY ENFORCE A SPEED ZONE

A JUDGE AGREED-RULING THE CITY REMOVE ALL SPEED ORDINANCES FOR BOATERS.

NOT JUST HERE-

BUT EVERYWHERE-

Mayor John Sorey

City Of Naples

What the judge did is he basically threw out all of the past history as far as boat restrictions.

RESIDENTS ON MOORINGS BAY ARE FURIOUS -

Marilyn Tempest

Moorings Bay Resident

18:10-18:17

We didn't think anything about it. We weren't part of the original issue. and all of the sudden it came and got us too.

HARRISON AND MARILYN TEMPEST HAVE LIVED HERE FOR 20 YEARS.

THEY SAY MOORINGS BAY IS SMALLER THAN NAPLES BAY-AND HAS MORE TRAFFIC.

LEAVING NO ROOM FOR SPEEDING BOATERS.

Harrison Tempest

Moorings Bay Resident

00:33-00:39

we have no commercial fishing in this bay. this is recreational boating

00:53-00:59

the boats will be damaged. the property will be damaged. it just makes no sense to me at all.

STAND UP:

27:01-27:10

One of the biggest concerns with moorings bay is the waterways leading in and out of it. people say they are too narrow. and boats going in and out quickly can be dangerous.

Marilyn Tempest

Moorings Bay Resident

20:14-20:21

We want no wake in here if we can. That's what we have always been.

THE CITY SCHEDULED A PUBLIC MEETING FRIDAY

TO HEAR IF RESIDENTS WANT THE SPEED ZONES REINSTATED.

IF SO-IT WILL BE UP TO THE STATE.

A DECISION THAT COULD TAKE MONTHS-

BUT RESIDENTS SAY IS WORTH IT FOR A CHANGE.
