FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MORE GREAT WEATHER FOR FRIDAY

It was a sun-filled and pleasant Thursday across the region, with highs climbing into the 80s. Expect comfortable conditions this evening, with temps falling into the 70s.

We will have one more cool overnight, with temps in the low 60s in the urban corridor and upper 50s in inland areas.

Our nice weather continues into Friday. Expect again mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. We'll also have low humidity values and highs in the low to mid 80s.

The warmth and humidity slowly returns for the weekend. Saturday will again feature plenty of sun with highs in the upper 80s. The humidity really begins to arrive on Sunday, with partly cloudy skies and highs again in the upper 80s.

Our next storm system begins to push in to start next week. A few showers will be possible on Monday, with highs in the upper 80s.

Better rain chances arrive on Tuesday as the storm system rolls through the area. Expect plenty of clouds as well with highs in the mid 80s.

There is some uncertainty as to how quickly the system will clear the region. At this time, it looks like we will see some sun midweek next week, with highs holding in the mid 80s. Return to index of stories...

CHIKUNGUNYA.

:23:43 Ive never heard of it.

THE NAME MAY SOUND FOREIGN AND FUNNY.

BUT IT'S A SERIOUS THREAT HERE IN THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

Nick Shippas, Fort Myers

:24:11 not a good thing. not a good thing. welcome to florida.

:04

CHIKUNGUNYA IS CARRIED BY MOSQUITOES AND FIRST SHOWED UP IN THE

CARRIBEAN ABOUT A YEAR AGO-

NOW OFFICIALS SAY THERE ARE CLOSE TO 20-THOUSAND REPORTED HUMAN INFECTIONS.

Shelly Redovan, Lee County Mosquito District

:14:08 Its moved rapidly through the caribbean so we do worry it will

eventually come to southwest florida.

:07

THE DISEASE SPREADS FROM MOSQUITO TO HUMAN TO MOSQUITO- MUCH QUICKER

THAN OTHER MOSQUITO BORN DISEASES.

SOMEONE CAN BE INFECTED FOR UP TO 12 DAYS BEFORE THEY NOTICE ANY SYMPTOMS.

Shelly Redovan, Lee County Mosquito Control District

:13:38 it is very frightening in that it is a very difficult mosquito to control

:04

Hollie Hojek

:33: 21 Lee County says spraying them doesn't work- because they breed

during the day- and they spray at night.

:34:57 Another problem- these mosquitos can bread in any amount of

water- from something as large as a bird bath to something as small as

a water bottle cap.

Shelly Redovan, Lee County Mosquito Control

:20:13 maybe look for water- see if you can dump it out. just take it

seriously- you dont want to expose yourself to mosquitos.

SHELLY REDOVAN WITH LEE COUNTY MOSQUITO CONTROL SAYS SHE DOESN'T WANT PEOPLE TO PANIC- JUST BE AWARE.

:25:01 we'll probably remove the dishes.

EVEN THOUGH HE JUST LEARNED ABOUT THE DISEASE THIS AFTERNOON-

NICK SHIPPAS IS ALREADY COMING UP WITH A PLAN OF ACTION.

Shippas

:23:45 now I'm going to start spraying more- myself more- or were

going to spend more time sitting in the back- so we've got a porch we

arent going ot be able to use.

SOME SYMPTOMS INCLUDE HIGH FEVER- SEVERE JOINT PAIN, POSSIBLE SWELLING OR RASH. Return to index of stories...
