FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

After a cool and breezy start to the morning with temperatures in the 50s, we'll warm up quickly throughout day the under full sunshine.

Humidity will stay at low and comfortable levels, and since the air will be so dry, rain won't be in the our forecast at all.

Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 70s by noon and then peak in the low to mid 80s during the afternoon hours; coastal communities will stay closer to 80 while inland zones get closer to 85 degrees.

The wind won't be as strong today, but we'll still have some gusts in the 15-20 mph range.

this evening and tonight will be very pleasant but still a little on the cool side.

Most of us closer to the coast and along the urban corridor will drop to the low 60s, except around Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda where we'll dip into the upper 50s.

We continue the warming trend Friday through the weekend with daytime highs bouncing back to the mid to upper 80s.

Humidity also makes a comeback late this weekend, but moisture will still be too limited to bring a significant rain chance into the forecast, keeping the weekend outlook mainly dry and sunny.

The next chance of rain likely won't be until Tuesday when a weak cool front slides down the Florida peninsula. Return to index of stories...

"Hi there, the prosecutor came out of the gate hard yesterday. If you thought he would slow down today, think again, hammering Oscar Pistorius for hours this morning, accusing him of deflecting questions, grand-standing in court for the cameras and even lying about his entire relationship with Reeva Steenkamp."

OSCAR PISTORIUS, THE OLYMPIAN. AND REEVA STEENKAMP, THE MODEL.AS HE TELLS IT.A HAPPY COUPLE IN LOVE. MAKING FUTURE PLANS TOGETHER. BUT IN COURT THIS MORNING.THIS:

NEL: You know Mr. Pistorius, we did a search on all the what's apps? The phrase "I love you" appeared twice in Reeva's what's apps. Both times, she wrote that to her mother never to you. And you never to her, am I right?

PISTORIUS: That's correct my lady, I never got the opportunity to tell Reeva that I loved her.

PISTORIUS SAYS HE MISTOOK REEVA FOR AN INTRUDER. BUT PROSECUTORS SAY HE WAS REALLY A JEALOUS, CONTROLLING BOYFRIEND.WHO SNAPPED. REEVA CAN'T SPEAK ANYMORE, THE PROSECUTOR SAID TODAY.HER TEXT MESSAGES TO PISTORIUS HER ONLY VOICE.READ IN OPEN COURT.

NEL: "You have picked on me incessantly" What is that about?

PISTORIUS: I understand what she writes here, but I was good to Reeva.

/

PISTORIUS: I never picked on her my lady.

NEL: So she lied?

PISTORIUS: She never lied.

NEL: She must have. If you never picked on her and she put it there, Reeva lied.

PISTORIUS: My lady when Reeva sent me this message her feelings were hurt.

NEL: "I'm scared of you sometimes" why would she be scared of you?

/

PISTORIUS: She's obviously scared of the way that I react to things she does at times.

NEL: Shout at her? Scream at her?

PISTORIUS: No, I never shouted or screamed at her.

LEGAL EXPERTS SAY, THE PROSECUTOR'S STRATEGY IS CLEAR.RATTLE PISTORIUS, TIRE HIM OUT.AND HOPE FOR AN OUTBURST.

NEL: You just refuse to take responsibility for anything.

/

NEL: that is one of your defenses, I didn't have time to think. I'm a gun enthusiast. I didn't have time to think.

JEFF: Is the prosecutor scoring points here? How's he doing?

ULRICH: I think he did well initially, he got Oscar emotional and rattled him, and Oscar broke down, and that is a good tactic to get a person to give conflicting versions, on the other hand Oscar also hasn't been answering the questions straight, he's been coming up with some version he's concocted in his mind, and in my opinion, he's being an evasive witness. NBC2 UNCOVERED A NEW MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGH.

WHEN IT COMES TO LUNG CANCER THE STATISTICS ARE GRIM.

BUT A NEW TREATMENT IS GIVING HOPE TO SOME PATIENTS.

IT'S A PILL THAT -- TAKEN JUST ONCE A DAY -- CAN HELP SHRINK CANCER TUMORS,

WITHOUT RADIATION OR CHEMOTHERAPY.

STEPHANIE CHUANG EXPLAINS. Return to index of stories...

LUNG CANCER PILL-PKG

MEET MOLLY GOLBON.

SHE'S LIKE A LOT OF 39-YEAR OLD MARRIED WORKING MOMS. WELL, WITH ONE BIG EXCEPTION.

"I think when they told me it was lung cancer, I thought it can't be. It can't be. It's probably bronchitis or pneumonia, it's not that."

TURNS OUT. IT WAS.

"The stigma for lung cancer is that it's a smoker's cancer and it's not. I've never smoked. There was no one in my family that smoked."

AFTER A SERIES OF TESTS AND SCANS OVER A THREE WEEK PERIOD, MOLLY LEARNED THE CANCER HAD SPREAD THROUGHOUT HER BODY.

"We see it in your left hip, your right shoulder and throughout your brain."

A DEVASTATING DIAGNOSIS, NO DOUBT.

"I think I had thoughts that my 4-1/2-year-old would not have any memory of me, and I just couldn't bear that thought."

BUT SHE HUNG ON TO HOPE.

"If there was a cancer lottery, I feel like I had won it"

AND HERE'S WHY.

MOLLY HAS A CERTAIN KIND OF GENE MUTATION CALLED EGFR.

"So something happens in the body that leads to this gene mutation somewhere in the lung and that then develops into the lung cancer"

THIS IS MOLLY'S DOCTOR, HEATHER WAKALEE, A NATIONALLY-RENOWNED STANDFORD ONCOLOGIST SPECIALIZING IN LUNG CANCER.

"When we can find these particular gene mutations that lead us to the different pill medications that leads to a lot of excitement and hope again because it changes, adds a whole new level of drugs and options that we'll be able to treat with."

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MOLLY. FOR NOW, NO CHEMO, NO RADIATION. INSTEAD.

SHE TAKES ONE PILL CALLED TARCEVA.

"I've been taking Tarceva since December 7th and my tumor was down 50 percent in beginning of February, so after 2 months it was down 50 percent."

THE CANCER THAT METASTASIZED TO MOLLY'S HIP, SHOULDER, AND BRAIN IS NOW ALMOST UNDETECTABLE.

"These drugs tend to work really quickly, they work within a week or twoo and people generally start to feel better, but they don't work forever"

MOLLY UNDERSTANDS THIS BUT FOR NOW, SHE'S FEELING HEALTHIER AND LIVING WITH A LOT LESS PAIN.

"I'm breathing really well. I'm back to work. I'm back to yoga. I'm back to working out and to think it was one little pill." Return to index of stories...
