FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MORE GREAT WEATHER FOR FRIDAY

It was a sun-filled and pleasant Thursday across the region, with highs climbing into the 80s. Expect comfortable conditions this evening, with temps falling into the 70s.

We will have one more cool overnight, with temps in the low 60s in the urban corridor and upper 50s in inland areas.

Our nice weather continues into Friday. Expect again mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. We'll also have low humidity values and highs in the low to mid 80s.

The warmth and humidity slowly returns for the weekend. Saturday will again feature plenty of sun with highs in the upper 80s. The humidity really begins to arrive on Sunday, with partly cloudy skies and highs again in the upper 80s.

Our next storm system begins to push in to start next week. A few showers will be possible on Monday, with highs in the upper 80s.

Better rain chances arrive on Tuesday as the storm system rolls through the area. Expect plenty of clouds as well with highs in the mid 80s.

There is some uncertainty as to how quickly the system will clear the region. At this time, it looks like we will see some sun midweek next week, with highs holding in the mid 80s. Return to index of stories...

ROBERT WISEMAN/KIDNEY CANCER SURVIVOR

RUNS:

:57 I didn't feel it in my body, didn't know it was there. All I felt was the pain, thinking it was a kidney stone.

DR. PAUL BRETTON/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

5:57: Mr. Wiseman came in and had gross blood in his urine. And as part of his work up, we did a CAT scan in his abdomen, which the CAT scan showed about a 15 cm mass in his left kidney.

A LARGE TUMOR DOUBLED THE SIZE OF HIS LEFT KIDNEY. KIDNEY CANCERS THAT ARE FUELED BY TOBACCO ARE LINKED TO MORE DEADLY AND AGGRESSIVE DISEASE.

DR. PAUL BRETTON/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

7:29: Well there's a lot of carcinogen in cigarette smoking and what they can do is turn on or change the cells in the kidney- to turn it to cancer cells or you could have a pre-disposition already there and it promotes the growth of those tumors. So that adds to the problem.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Researchers find current and former smokers are nearly twice as likely to develop kidney cancer than people who never picked up the habit.

But for every decade a former smoker was smoke-free, the risk decreases by 9 percent.

DR. PAUL BRETTON/UROLOGIST

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

HEARTBLEED BUG-VO IN TC MON

NBC2 IS EXPOSING A BRAND NEW WAY FOR THIEVES TO STEAL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION ONLINE.

A NEW ONLINE ISSUE IS COMING TO LIGHT CALLED THE "HEARTBLEED" BUG.

IT'S BASICALLY A MISTAKE IN A WIDELY USED SOFTWARE THAT MAKES IT EASIER FOR IDENTITY THIEVES TO STEAL PERSONAL INFORMATION.

MARK BARGER EXPLAINS. Return to index of stories...

HEARTBLEED BUG-PKG

IF YOU'RE NOT ALREADY IN THE HABIT OF FREQUENTLY CHANGING YOUR ONLINE PASSWORDS.

"THE HEARTBLEED BUG" SHOULD PROVIDE EXTRA INCENTIVE TO DO IT.

"You never know what kind of flaw out there could cause, sort of open the door for hackers to get in to your

private information."

THAT'S JUST WHAT SECURITY EXPERTS DISCOVERED THE HEARTBLEED BUG WAS DOING.

IT'S NOT A COMPUTER VIRUS, BUT INSTEAD, A MAJOR FLAW IN OPENSSL, A WIDELY-USED ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE THAT USUALLY PROTECTS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.

"Because of the magnitude of the mistake, people who are engaging in malicious activities, people whose job it is to try to steal your data, it's made it very easy to do that, without being detected."

THE HEARTBLEED BUG WENT TWO YEARS WITHOUT BEING DETECTED, BUT THERE'S NO FIRM EVIDENCE YET THAT THE FLAW'S BEEN EXPLOITED.

TUMBLR IS AMONG THE MAJOR WEBSITES THAT DISCOVERED THE MISTAKE AND FIXED IT.

"The crucial companies that you interact with, that have the most crucial data on you, definitely make sure you're

keeping up with their website, and their blogs to see if they were affected by at all."

CONSUMERS CAN ALSO TYPE WEBSITE ADDRESSES INTO THIS ONLINE SITE TO SEE IF IT PASSES A "HEARTBLEED" SCREENING.

"Any website that takes your personal information could potentially be affect by this, and need to patch this ssl layer."

EVEN IF A WEBSITE GETS A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH, EXPERTS SUGGEST CONSUMERS MAKE NEW PASSWORDS AND CHANGE THEM EVERY FEW MONTHS.
