THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

HOT AND HUMID WITH AFTERNOON SHOWERS

Our Tuesday morning starts warm and muggy with just a few clouds. Through the day, we'll see cloud cover increasing ahead of a cold front. That front will also bring a chance for showers and even a couple of thunderstorms. We could get a couple of showers to pop up by midday with more of them during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures today will still be able to warm into the mid 80s. For tonight, we'll be just a bit cooler with lows in the low to mid 60s, which is actually right around the average for this time of year.

The cold front that brings the chance for rain today will get "stuck" near Southwest Florida for the rest of the week. Tomorrow we'll likely see mostly cloudy skies. Then for Thursday and Friday, a few scattered showers are expected each day due to the proximity of the old cold front from today.

As we look ahead to the Easter weekend, the weather does look drier. Sunshine should be increasing with highs in the mid 80s for any weekend activities you have planned. If you are going to a sunrise Easter service, temperatures will be in the mid and upper 60s. Return to index of stories...

"The seniors that weren't graduating, they called them out in front of everybody."

THIS IS VIDEO FROM THE RALLY, IN WHICH ALL THE SENIORS ATTENDED TO CELEBRATE THE 20-14 GRADUATING CLASS.

BUT INSTEAD, IT TURNED INTO THE WALK OF SHAME FOR 34 STUDENTS.

"I feel that it's embarrassing for the students who were there."

THE MOMENT OF HUMILIATION CAME WHEN AN RETENTION OFFICER WITH THE SCHOOL SINGLED OUT THE STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT GRADUATING.

"They just didn't think through it

SOMETHING PARENTS SAY, SENDS THE WRONG MESSAGE

"All these kids sigh a pact to not bully, not to embarrass or harass other kids. Why are they susceptible to not have to sign it or not have to follow their rules?"

THE RETENTION OFFICER IN CHARGE OF TRUANCY DISMISSED THE NON-GRADUATING STUDENTS BY CALLING EACH ONE OF THEM BY NAME, AND TOLD THEM TO STAND UP AND LOOK AT THE OTHER STUDENTS WHO WERE GRADUATING AND SEE WHAT THEY WERE MISSING.

"They hurt my brother's feelings. He came out crying. He was embarrassed, upset. I felt horrible for him."

MANY STUDENTS AND FORMER STUDENTS QUESTION THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THE OFFICER'S ACTIONS.

"What if one of those kids had a disability or social anxiety? What if that as the reason they went home and killed themselves because of how worthless they felt?"

HOLTACHULTE SAID HIS BROTHER IS NOT DOING GOOD IN SCHOOL THIS SEMESTER BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS AT HOME, AND IT WAS UNFAIR TO BE SINGLED OUT.

"We has a bunch of family issues. He's got some big things with his mom, everything, man."

DISTRICT OFFICIALS DON'T CONDONE THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE RETENTION OFFICER.

"They didn't have any authorization."

ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PRINCIPAL AND OTHER STAFF WERE NOT ON CAMPUS, NOW THE DISTRICT HAS APOLOGIZED TO ALL INVOLVED.

"Right now, what we are concentrating on is trying to reconstruct our relationship with our seniors and their parents." Return to index of stories...

WHEN LAKE OKACHOBEE GETS TOO FULL -- FRESH WATER IS RELEASED, FLOWING DOWN THE CALOOSHATCHEE RIVER, RIGHT INTO THE GULF --

TO STOP THE PROBLEMS, GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT AND THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE ARE TACKLING SEVERAL PROJECTS --

Rick Scott

"We have been funding everglades restoration, 130 million dollars this year."

ONE OF THOSE PROJECTS -- 90 MILLION DOLLARS ON A US41 BRIDGE -- ALLOWING WATER FROM THE LAKE TO FLOW SOUTH.

Ray Judah

"That's a plus, but again it's insignificant in terms of relieving the massive releases from lake okachobee."

THAT'S RAY JUDAH, FOMER COUNTY COMMISSIONER, NOW THE COORDINATOR WITH THE FLORIDA COSTAL AND OCEAN COALITION.

HE SAYS THE BRIDGE IS GREAT -- THERE'S JUST ONE PROBLEM --

"What we need to do is make sure we have a way to have the water flow from the lake, under the bridge to everglades national park."

SITTING BETWEEN THE LAKE AND THE BRIDGE -- SUGAR CANE FIELDS ON 50-THOUSAND ACRES OF LAND JUDAH SAYS NEEDS TO USED TO MOVE THAT WATER SOUTH --

JUDAH SAYS UNTIL THAT CAN BE DONE -- EVERYTHING ELSE IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME.

"Without that extra land for the necessary storage, treatment and movement south, we will continue to have adverse impacts to our estuaries."

IT'S A PROJECT THAT TALKED ABOUT SEVERAL YEARS AGO BUT WAS PUT ON HOLD DURING THE GREAT RECESSION. JUDAH AND OTHERS HAVE STILL BEEN PUSHING FOR IT, BUT STATE AND FEDERAL LAWMAKERS HAVE YET TO TAKE ACTION.

ANDERSON WAS SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS IN JAIL. BUT DURING HIS APPEALS. POSTED BOND AND WENT HOME.

"He then waited and waited and waited/edit/ for the Missouri Department of Corrections to give him a date to surrender and begin his serving his sentence. That day never came."

FOR SOME REASON, THE STATE THOUGHT ANDERSON WAS IN PRISON. WHEN REALLY HE WAS LEADING A NORMAL LIFE.

"He got married, had children, opened a successful business, coached football, joined a church group. Did everything that you would expect a normal person to do because in his mind, he believed the courts had changed their mind."

THEN. LAST SUMMER. WHEN HIS SENTENCE WAS SUPPOSED TO END. AUTHORITIES REALIZED AN APPARENT CLERICAL ERROR: ANDERSON WAS NEVER IN JAIL.

THAT'S WHEN LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOWED UP AT HIS FRONT DOOR. AND ARRESTED HIM.

FROM PRISON. ANDERSON SPOKE WITH THE RADIO PROGRAM "THIS AMERICAN LIFE."

"I never felt like a fugitive, because a fugitive's someone that's running from the law. I never ran from the law. I was there."

HIS ATTORNEY HAS FILED A PETITION. ASKING FOR ANDERSON'S RELEASE.

EVEN THE BURGER KING MANAGER THINKS THE STATE SHOULD SET HIM FREE.

"It's their fault, so I mean it's like they're going to try and penalize him for another 13 years. That don't seem right."

BUT THE CURRENT PROSECUTOR DISAGREES.

"I believe that if we allowed somebody to avoid an incarceration sentence, it's just a slippery slope."

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL
