FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

!!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

It's been a quiet week so far on the First Alert LIVE radar, but with plenty of moisture and energy building in the atmosphere today, scattered storms will likely form during the afternoon and evening time frame.

A few of the storm clusters that develop today could be strong and potentially severe with the primary threats beings gusty winds, hail, and frequent lightning.

Today's storms will develop along the sea breeze, which should be positioned along or just east of I-75; however, even coastal locations will be fair game for some stormy weather as a few of the cells drift back toward the coast during the late afternoon.

The strength of today's storms will be dependent on how much sunshine we're able to get today, so if skies stay cloudier than expected, that could greatly diminish today's storm threat.

Also keep in mind today's storms will be scattered in nature, which means not all of us will get hit.

Before the storms start popping this afternoon, expect a partly sunny sky with quite the warm and humid start.

Temperatures will likely top out in the mid 80s this afternoon, but if we get more break in the clouds this afternoon, a few spots could potentially warm into the upper 80s.

Once the storms fade tonight and push off into the Gulf, we'll be in store for another warm and muggy night with lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

We've got another rain chance in the forecast for Friday as a disturbance swings in from the Gulf of Mexico, but this probably won't affect Southwest Florida until the night-time hours Friday.

The forecast is looking much quieter and even rather comfortable for Easter weekend. Expect a warm but less humid weekend with highs in the low to mid 80s and overnight lows down to the upper 50s by Easter morning.

We'll enjoy plenty of sun through the weekend with rain chances staying out of our forecast. Return to index of stories...

GETTING CHILDREN TO EAT THEIR VEGETABLES HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BATTLE -- BUT DIETICIANS INSIST IT IS WORTH THE FIGHT.

PICKY EATERS-PKG

PLEASE AND THANK YOU ARE THE WORDS PARENTS WANT TO HEAR AT THE DINNER TABLE. BUT WHAT THEY OFTEN GET IS NO AND I DON'T LIKE IT.

EXPERTS SAY A GOOD WAY TO BALANCE WHAT A KID LIKES WITH WHAT A PARENT WANTS THEM TO LIKE. IS TO COMPROMISE.

"Kids love to dip things, so even if it's eating a raw vegetable dipped in something it's a good way to get them to eat it - and that's absolutely ok."

ALSO -- BLEND HEALTHIER FOODS INTO SOME OF THEIR FAVORITES.

"If your kids love mac and cheese then start incorporating into that some cooked broccoli or cooked peas."

WENDY PALMER IS A DIETICIAN AT CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA.

WHILE COMPROMISE WORKS SHE SAYS PARENTS SHOULD NOT BE SHORT ORDER COOKS.

THEIR JOB IS DONE ONCE THE FOOD IS ON THE TABLE.

"We shouldn't be worried if our kids skip one meal because they don't like what we've provided. My philosophy there is they're going to come to the next meal with a better appetite and be more open to trying food maybe they haven't tried before."

KIDS SEEM TO BE THEIR HUNGRIEST WHILE YOU'RE COOKING DINNER -- WHICH IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PUT SOME FRUITS AND VEGGIES ON THE TABLE FOR THEIR SNACKING PLEASURE.

MAKING MEALS FUN WITH FOOD ART -- BY USING STICKS, COOKIE CUTTERS AND CREATIVE DISPLAYS -- ALSO ENCOURAGES KIDS TO TRY NEW FOODS.

AND SO DOES GETTING THEM INVOLVED IN THE COOKING PROCESS FROM THE START. LITERALLY. EXPERTS SAY PLANTING AND PICKING THE VEGETABLES USED IN YOUR MEALS IS A GREAT WAY TO GET KIDS EXCITED TO EAT HEALTHY.

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

SPEED IS OF THE ESSENCE WHEN IT COMES TO TREATING A HEART ATTACK- BUT TIME IS ALSO IMPORTANT WHEN IT COMES TO DIAGNOSING

CHEST PAIN.

IT COULD BE SOMEONE'S FIRST HINT OF HEART DISEASE.

IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS AMY OSHIER EXPLAINS HOW HOSPITALS ARE UPPING THEIR STANDARD OF CARE. Return to index of stories...

NUMBERS TELL THE STORY. MORE THAN 5-MILLION PEOPLE VISIT THE

HOSPITAL EACH YEAR WITH CHEST PAIN. AND ABOUT 600-THOUSAND PEOPLE

DIE EACH YEAR FROM HEART DISEASE. THE CHALLENGE IS TO INTERVENE

EARLY.

DR. LARRY HOBBS/EMERGENCY MEDICINE

RUNS:

:20 Heart disease is a number one disease in the American society. So our number

one, chief complaint, coming through our doors in the emergency room is chest pain.

AS PART OF THE CHALLENGE TO SPEED TREATMENT, LEE MEMORIAL

HEALTHY SYSTEM PUT IN PLACE A PROTOCOL DRIVEN APPROACH TO

PATIENT MANAGEMENT. IT REDUCES TIME TO TREATMENT DURING THE

EARLY STAGES OF A HEART ATTACK. BEGINNING WITH A CALL TO 911 FOR AN

EMERGENCY RESPONSE.

DR. LARRY HOBBS/EMERGENCY MEDICINE

RUNS:

2:04 We added an EKG station so that EMS can transfer the EKG to the Emergency

Room prior to the patient getting here. So we can get the cath lab manned and ready to

go and have the cardiologist standing by.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

If someone is having a heart attack, they can be quickly taken into surgery to re-open

a blocked artery. But other times the cause of their chest pain is unclear. In those

instances, patients can now get a speedy assessment.

2-SHOT CINDY & AMY

RUNS:

10:36 For Southwest Florida yes it is a novel program. And we believe it's the best

medicine because we're using nationally evidence-based medicine.

THE HEALTH SYSTEM INSTITUTED A CHEST PAIN PROGRAM IN EACH OF ITS

HOSPITALS. THEY INCLUDE A WARD OF PATIENT ROOMS WITH TRAINED STAFF

WHO CONDUCT THE NECESSARY TESTS.

CINDY BROWN/VP PATIENT CARE SERVICES

RUNS:

4:54: We do what's called point-of-care testing which means we're able to draw your

blood and determine whether or not the blood work shows you might have had a heart

attack. That used to take about an hour to get the results. We're able to get them now in

15 minutes. So were able to move the patients quickly through the system and quickly

to a diagnosis.

GOING BACK TO THE NUMBERS: USING THESE PROTOCOLS, CUTS

DIAGNOSTIC TIME IN HALF. SETTING NEW STANDARDS OF CARE. FOR LEE
