FIRST WEATHERTRACKING SHOWERS AND STORMS

Storms are already firing up on the First Alert Live Radar this afternoon and will continue through the evening and into the night. Some of these storms will be strong to possible severe, with the main threats being very heavy downpours, gusty winds, hail and lots of thunder and lightning.

Through the evening hours, the storms move out over the Gulf of Mexico as we head into the night. Overnight, we'll stay warm and muggy under mainly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

For tomorrow, we'll see mainly cloudy skies. There will be showers and storms popping up again, but it looks like it will be another late day event as an area of low pressure moves in from the Gulf of Mexico. If you have plans early in the day even into the midday time frame, you shouldn't have any problems. The late afternoon and evening plans could be a bit of a mess, though. Expect that some of the storms that pop up could once again be on the strong to severe side and they will likely last into the overnight and even Saturday morning.

Through the day Saturday, we'll dry things out and even get the sunshine to return. Afternoon high temperatures will reach into the lower 80s.

If you are planning to attend sunrise services on Easter Sunday, temperatures will be near 60 degrees. That is rather cool by Southwest Florida standards for this time of year, so you may want the light sweater for that early morning time frame. Then we'll warm to the lower to mid 80s for Easter Sunday afternoon. Return to index of stories...

A 4 MILLION DOLLARS INVESTMENT.

YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE FUTURE NERVE CENTER OF THE CONSERVANCY OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

Rob Moher, Conservancy of SWFL President

21:15:49-:54

This is where our science, and our policy, and our education team work to come up with solutions to protect our land, water, and wildlife.

THE NEW PLANNING CENTER SPANS THREE FLOORS HOUSING OFFICES, EDUCATION AREAS, AND TWO SCIENCE LABS.

Rob

21:15:54-:16:00

Our scientists right now are working out of a bathroom for their laboratory, we have PHD scientists.

NOT ANYMORE.

Ian Bartoszek, Conservancy Biologist

21:20:09-:16

This is the dry lab, this is our ecology lab, and this space will really help us advance our research and take it to the next level.

TODAY'S UNVEILING MARKS THE FINAL PHASE OF A 6 BUILDING 20 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT.

ALMOST FIVE YEARS AGO TO THE DAY, CREWS BROKE GROUND ON EARTH DAY.

21:18:07-:10

This is a doorway into the mission of the Conservancy.

EACH STEP OF THE WAY, THEY'VE SPENT EVERY OUNCE OF ENERGY ON SAVING ENERGY.

STANDUP

21:35:30-:50

The Conservancy says the challenge here was to show people what they can't see, how efficient all of these new buildings are. So that's why they created the sustainability courtyard with kiosks like this one over here. It shows you the most and least efficient light bulbs. Here's the least efficient incandescent bulb and the most efficient LED light bulb.

PLUS YOU CAN LEARN ABOUT SOLAR AND GEOTHERMAL ENERGY.

TWO CLEAN SOURCES YOU CAN HARNESS AT HOME TOO.

Curtis Cafiso, Conservancy Dir of Business Op. & Tech.

21:32:50-:54

I think it's important, but I think it's become much easier in the past 4 or 5 years.

THE CONSERVANCY SAYS INCORPORATING THE COMMUNITY WAS A NO-BRAINER.

EVERY DOLLAR SPENT WAS DONATED.
