FIRST WX-WX ANI CLIP

After what ended up being a pretty stormy Thursday afternoon, we'll see the potential for more unsettled weather today as a cool front heads our way from the Gulf of Mexico.

The showers and storms probably won't arrive until this evening and tonight, so most of our Friday should actually be dry.

One change we'll notice through the day is more cloud cover streaming in ahead of the front, which will make for a pretty cloudy day across Southwest Florida.

Despite the extra clouds, it'll still be quite warm today with temperatures peaking in the mid 80s this afternoon.

A strengthening southerly wind will also keep the air feeling quite humid and tropical; winds will stay between 10-15 mph through the day with some higher gusts above 20 mph.

The main window for rain will be from sunset tonight through the early morning hours on Saturday, and depending on how well the storms can hold together before arriving in Southwest Florida, a few of the storms could be strong with highs winds and heavy rain.

After the rain pushes out Saturday morning, we're in store for improving weather for Easter weekend! Expect a slight cool down along with a nice dip in humidity with highs only in the low to mid 80s.

Sunday will end up being the sunnier day since clouds will probably linger a while through our Saturday.

If you're planning to attend an Easter Sunrise Service, you might actually end up needing a light jacket as temperatures drop close to the upper 50s by early Sunday morning.

As we head into the next week, our weather stay quiet, warm and sunny with highs returning to the mid to upper 80s. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SHOWERS AND STORMS HEADING INTO SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

It has been warm and muggy through the day and now showers and storms are starting to move into the area. A cold front is approaching from the Gulf of Mexico and will be the driving force to give us scattered showers and storms through the balance of the afternoon, evening and even into the overnight hours. By Saturday morning we'll be back to drying things out again. Overnight lows will be near 70 degrees, but behind the front we'll only warm into the lower 80s for afternoon highs on Saturday. It will also be windy behind the front on Saturday with winds from the west gusting around 25 mph. Cloud cover will be decreasing through the day Saturday.

Then, overnight Saturday into Sunday, winds will turn more northwesterly and that will continue to send in cooler, drier air. Morning lows will be in the lower 60s to start Sunday morning. That means you may even want that light jacket as you head out to Easter sunrise services. Highs for Easter Sunday will be in the low to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies.

Looking ahead; we'll stay on track for mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 80s through the work week. Return to index of stories...

YOUR MOTHER PROBABLY SAID IT MORE THAN ONCE: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. BUT IT'S NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN NOW, WHEN POOR DIETS ARE EXPANDING OUR WAISTE LINES AND HEALTH CONDITIONS.

1:56 The majority of chronic illnesses that we see in this country today are really not related to age, not related to genetics, they're more related to lifestyle and they're preventable. And that's a key message that we have to get across.

WITH A HISTORY OF HEART ISSUES, RICHARD FAIN KEEPS AN EYE ON WHAT GOES INTO HIS BODY.

:22 It's just all the additives and everything that are in foods today. I am concerned about it. I try to keep myself relatively healthy, I'm 67 so I try to watch what I eat.

A GOOD START IS TO GO NATURAL- AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

4:20 What I tell people it's really simple. If you don't eat foods that are in a box or a bag, if you eat whole foods that are grown in the earth, that are unprocessed, you'll be much better off.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

The demand for convenience is a drawback for many a dieter. But it is possible to shop for shortcuts and still eat healthy. A quick suggestion when it comes to label reading, is to look at the number of ingredients. The fewer the better.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

3:44 Oftentimes when you grab a box of a food product the label is so long and you can't read half of the words. Those are foods you should put back on the shelf. The more foods are processed and the more they've been changed from the natural way that they were grown, the more unhealthy they become.

CUTTING DOWN ON FAST FOOD TRIPS, HIDING THE SALT-SHAKER AND AVOIDING SUGARY DRINKS CAN BE EYE-OPENING- AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR WELL-BEING.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-CLIP

FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

PARENTAL DRESS CODE-PKG

"Well, I don't think it would hurt. I think sometimes it would be appropriate."

"I find it interesting when I see how some people dress."

THE IDEA OF POSSIBLY HAVING A DRESS CODE FOR PARENTS WHEN THEY VISIT A SCHOOL OR SCHOOL-SPONSORED EVENT IN PALM BEACH COUNTY IS GETTING REACTION DISTRICT WIDE.

"I don't believe in that motto that parents have 'do as I say and not as I do.'"

"I think we should all think what's best for our children you know."

BOARD MEMBER KAREN BRILL BROUGHT UP THE IDEA DURING OPENING REMARKS DURING WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.

"Broward county school board and this is coming to me secondhand, apparently they were discussing whether they needed to have a policy for parents, for their attire when they attend school functions because they said they were having distractions caused by scantily clad parents and they felt that their teachers, administrators, and students had to be dressed a certain way."

SHE WANTS TO BRING IT UP FOR DISCUSSION AND FIND OUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT THE IDEA.

"I don't know that we can have a policy, I don't know if it's something that would be a recommendation in a handbook, but I wanted to give everybody a chance to reach out to us and for the board members to think about it."

"I believe that you should--if you're teaching your kid not to dress a certain way, you shouldn't dress a certain way. Whether you are a parent or not. sorry moms!" Return to index of stories...
