WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

We've got some more great weather in the works across Southwest Florida for Easter Sunday.

After a slightly cooler start to the morning with temperatures in the low 60s, we'll warm up nicely through the morning and into the afternoon with daytime highs reaching the low 80s.

With a relatively dry air mass in place, humidity levels will stay nice and comfortable.

Winds will be a bit weaker today, but it'll still be a little breezy as winds come in from the northwest at 5-15 mph.

Rain chances stay very low through the day, but it's not out of the question to see a couple of passing sprinkles, especially closer to the coast.

Expect a blend of sun and clouds with more clouds than sunshine at times.

Temperatures won't be quite as cool overnight with lows dropping into the mid 60s for most of Southwest Florida by early Monday morning.

As we head into next week, our weather goes into cruise control with sunshine at the wheel; highs will be in the mid to upper 80s, and rain chances will stay very low for most of the week. Return to index of stories...

PEOPLE IN COLLIER COUNTY ARE ON ALERT AFTER FIVE VERY SIMILAR AND VIOLENT HOME INVASIONS --

WHERE MEN WITH GUNS TIE UP ENTIRE FAMILIES AND ROB THEM --

AS TRISH ROUTTE WITH CRIMESTOPPERS REPORTS -- A TASK FORCE HAS BEEN PUT TO TRY TO CATCH THEM Return to index of stories...

CRIME STOPPERS-PKG

In just a matter of weeks, five extremely violent home invasions have taken place

within miles of each other in Collier County. Families have been tied up, threatened at

gunpoint, while masked men rummaged through their homes, stealing cash, jewelry and

even cars.

Lt. John Morrisseau - "Two to five males, wearing masks, dark clothing, long pants, long

shirts. They've come in through different ways - sometimes through open or unlocked

doors and sometimes confronting the victim outside the house."

The violent spree started in February, when a family of six - including three children

- were bound while armed gunmen tore the home apart, stealing anything of value.

The fury continued in the Grey Oaks community of North Naples, where the robbers

confidently crusaded through a garage door, terrorizing its residents.

Lt. John Morrisseau - "It's been a long time of being bound and being held at gunpoint in

your home with people in there for 30 or 40 minutes. So it's been quite traumatic."

And while it's not known for sure if all five robberies are linked to the same individuals,

investigators say there are far too many similarities to discount that they're not.

This surveillance video from one of the robberies shows the suspects very casually

approaching one of the homes, showing no nerves or indication of the horrendous act

they're about to perpetrate.

Lt. John Morrisseau - "They seem to be pretty organized and pretty calm and

comfortable with what they're doing."

The last home invasion was on April 3rd

Quail West. Four days later, a task force with representatives from the Naples Police

Department, the Collier County Sheriff's Office, the Marco Island Police Department, the

Florida Department of Law Enforcement and even the FBI.

, when the masked men barged into a home in

Trish Routte: And it's not just law enforcement who wants to see these violent predators

behind bars. The residents of Collier County are also joining forces to put together an

enhanced reward in hopes of finding these guys before they strike again.

Lt. Matt Fletcher - It's not just one neighborhood anymore. It's all the neighborhoods

coming together."

Investigators say the task force members are working day and night, collaborating all

known information, comparing notes in hopes that together, they'll find these men and

serve justice for each one of the victims.

Lt. John Morrisseau - "This is our main priority right now for the task force. It's our only

priority. This is what we're working on every day."'

But until these violent offenders are caught, investigators encourage residents to remain

vigilant, locking doors and practicing some basic steps of safety to ensure that they don't

become the next victim.

Lt. John Morrisseau - "Everybody has to be aware of their surroundings and certainly be

alert for suspicious activity in their neighborhoods."

WITH HIM AND ALSO CHARGED, TWO OTHER CREW, INCLUDING THE SOBBING, 26-YEAR-OLD FEMALE OFFICER WHO'D BEEN STEERING THE SHIP.

THIS WAS THE CAPTAIN ARRIVING ON SHORE - WITH THE FIRST GROUP OF SURVIVORS. HE'D LEFT BEHIND NEARLY THREE HUNDRED PEOPLE - TRAPPED, HIS LIFE RAFTS UNUSED.

EVEN HIS HELMSMAN NOW CHARGED AND BEING TREATED IN THE HOSPITAL, WAS SHOCKED THE CAPTAIN HAD FLED.

THE FAMILIES OF THE CHILDREN HE LEFT BEHIND ON THE SHIP ARE FURIOUS.

THEY WAIT IN A GYM THAT IS A MOSAIC OF MOURNING. HUNDREDS EXHAUSTED BY GRIEF BUT REFUSING TO LET GO. BUT AS THE UNCLE OF ONE MISSING CHILD SPOKE TO ME, NEWS CAME THROUGH MORE BODIES HAD BEEN FOUND.

NEELY: "We're hearing a woman screaming right now, this must be so difficult?"

Nam Seung Won: "Yeah, its so difficult. I don't want to give up, really I don't want to give up"

THE WAITING IS TORTURE.

SOME PARENTS HAVE GIVEN DNA SAMPLES SO THESE CAN BE CHECKED AGAINST CHILDREN RECOVERED FROM THE SEA.

THEY WATCHED VIDEO OF THE UNDERWATER SEARCH AT THE SHIP, BUT SAW LITTLE, THROUGH THE MURKY WATER.

DIVERS ARE STILL TRYING TO RETRIEVE BODIES, BUT CURRENTS AS STRONG AS A WATERFALL, PUSH THEM THEM BACK.

RESCUERS WORK DAY AND NIGHT - FLARES LIGHTING THE SKY WHERE THE SHIP LIES, WATCHED BY DESPERATE FAMILIES ON LAND.

AND SO THEY WAIT. POWERLESS, CLINGING TO GLIMMERS Return to index of stories...

WE'RE TOLD CREWS ARE WORKING ON A LONG-TERM FIX TO PREVENT THIS.

WE'RE ALSO TOLD THE WATER FLOW HAS BEEN REDUCED IN CASE THE WATER LINES FRACTURE.

WE SAW CREWS CONTINUING WORK ON A CONCRETE BUTTRESS THEY HOPE WILL HELP SLOW THE SLIDE.

"The reason this landslide is occurring is because there's been a de-weighting of the ground. Anything we can put at the toe of the slide should slow it down."
