FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Gradual warming trend"

Despite some lingering cloud cover yesterday, it was a pleasant and dry end to our holiday weekend. As we start the new week, we'll see a gradual warming trend with more sunshine.

A few patchy clouds will linger through the late morning hours, but overall expect a partly sunny day across the area. Over the weekend, daytime highs managed to stay in the upper 70s, but with a bit more sun during the afternoon temperatures will climb into the lower half of the 80s. A light breeze from the northeast will keep humidity values low, which will result in a rather comfortable day.

Mostly clear skies will prevail tonight as temperatures settle into the lower to middle 60s.

Not much will change as we head into Tuesday and beyond. We'll see a few more high clouds drifting in for the west, but ultimately our forecast stays mainly dry. Temperatures will warm up quickly through the week with afternoon highs in the middle to upper 80s. Our skies will stay partly sunny through the end of the week, with a slight uptick in our humidity levels as winds turn to the southeast. Return to index of stories...

THEN WALMART WILL PAY YOU THE DIFFERENCE.

BOB HANSEN HAS THE DETAILS. Return to index of stories...

WALMART PRICE CHECKER-TRX PKG

THIS IS THE MOMENT OF TRUTH. WHEN YOU FIND OUT JUST HOW MUCH YOU'RE

GOING TO PAY.

BUT WALMART SAYS AFTER YOU LEAVE THE STORE, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK

FOR DEALS.

"it was a small receipt, shopping receipt and i saved like a

dollar seventy-four, like that, and it was like, might as

well, it's extra money."

CATHY TOVAR JUST STARTED USING WALMART'S NEW "SAVINGS CATCHER"

PROGRAM.

IT'S BEING TESTED IN SAN DIEGO AND SIX OTHER BIG MARKETS.

USUALLY IT'S UP TO THE SHOPPER TO CHECK THE COMPETITION FOR DEALS. AND THEN ASK FOR A DISCOUNT AT THE REGISTER.

BUT WALMART WANTS SHOPPERS GO TO THEIR SAVINGS CATCHER WEBSITE WITH THEIR RECEIPT IN HAND.

"they have to click in that number onto the savings catcher. and then walmart's data base of a certain geographic area around the retail location the consumer went to, is going to track and see if there were any better prices available."

IF WALMART FINDS AN ADVERTISED DEAL AT ANOTHER NEARBY STORE. THEY SAY

THE DIFFERENCE WILL GO INTO YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT AS STORE CREDIT.

"two that were cheaper at other stores, there was one that had a coupon that i could have used and it took the coupon off."

"the biggest thing is looking for deals and seeing where you can get it cheaper."

"times are tough, money is tight."

"now this price comparison does not include online deals, only sales in your surrounding area. and you have to trust walmart that they are going to get it right."

"so i think from a perspective of walmart, in good faith, trying to make sure the savings catcher program works, i think it will work."

BUT MARKETING PROFESSOR STEVEN OSINSKI SAYS THE PROGRAM DOES HAVE ITS LIMITS.

SHOPPERS HAVE TO TAKE THE STEP REGISTERING ONLINE, THEY MUST SPEND THEIR SAVINGS AT WALMART AND IT DOES NOT INCLUDE DISCOUNT GIANTS LIKE AMAZON OR OTHER WEBSITES.

"So if you went to a target dot com and made a purchase, that would not apply to this, it would only be the retail target in the same geographic area."

THE PROGRAM COMPARES PRICES TO NEARLY 80-THOUSAND FOOD AND HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS FROM CEREAL TO SOAP, SORT OF AN ONLINE LOYALTY PROGRAM WITH A TWIST. BUT IN THE CUTHROAT WORLD OR RETAIL. ANY BARGAIN CENTERED PROGRAM COULD BE A HIT WITH SHOPPERS.

THE AUTHORITIES SAY HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS FOR MOST OF THE FLIGHT -- WHICH REACHED AN ALTITUDE OF 38-THOUSAND FEET WITH FREEZING TEMPERATURES.

SOT: PETER FORMAN/PILOT AVIATION EXPERT

"within a few minutes up at that altitude, the person would pass out and usually they would not survive for hours on end up there so it just boggles the mind."

OFFICIALS SAY THE BOY WAS FOUND BY AIRPORT WORKERS. HE WAS CARRYING ONLY A COMB FOR HIS HAIR. THIS PHOTO - PROVIDED BY MAUI NEWS - SHOWS THE TEEN ON A GURNEY BEING TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL.

RUNNING A MARATHON-PKG

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL IS OUT WITH SOME MEDICAL TIPS FOR THOSE SORE MUSCLE SUFFERERS. FIRST OF ALL.IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL. RUNNING A LONG DISTANCE CAN CREATE MICRO-TEARS IN MUSCLES. AND SPASMS. BUT WHAT TO DO WHEN THE PAIN HITS YOU.SAY AT MILE 18 OF A 26-MILE JOURNEY? THERE IS ONE interesting RECOMMENDATION IN THE ARTICLE. PICKLE AND CHERRY JUICE. RUNNING A MARATHON OBVIOUSLY BURNS FLUIDS AND SALTS.AND MOST FOLKS GRAB A SPORTS DRINKS. ALTHOUGH THOSE HAVE ELECTROLYTES, SOMETHING LIKE PICKLE JUICE HAS INCREDIBLY HIGH LEVELS OF SODIUM. ALTHOUGH YOU ARE NOT LIKELY TO FIND IT PASSED OUT DURING THE RACE.PICKLE JUICE HAS reportedly BEEN USED IN THE N-F-L DURING EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER.

AS FOR CHERRY JUICE.IT IS RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS WHICH COMBAT MUSCLE INFLAMATION. THE JOURNAL REPORTS THAT IT COULD BE VIEWED AS A SORT OF NATURAL ALTERNATIVE TO IBUPROFEN. Return to index of stories...
