DAN A HUGHES VIOLATION-PKG

ENVIRONMENTALISTS IN COLLIER COUNTY CALL IT SHOCKING-- BUT NOT SURPRISING.

PHONER

Karen Dwyer, Ph.D

Stone Crab Alliance

this is what we have been warning about from the very beginning.

THE D-E-P CONFIRMS THEY FOUND THE DAN A HUGHES COMPANY ILLEGALLY DRILLING AT A SITE IN IMMOKALEE-- SOUTH OF LAKE TRAFFORD.

IT'S THE SAME COMPANY TRYING TO DRILL FOR OIL IN GOLDEN GATE ESTATES--

AND THE SAME REASON-- ENVIRONMENTALISTS HAVE FOUGHT SO HARD AGAINST IT.

Joe Mule

President, Preserve Our Paradise

we know that these folks are about one thing and one thing only-- extracting the minerals and leaving.

NOW THEY ARE OUTRAGED--

CLAIMING THE D-E-P "HID" ITS INVESTIGATION -- DURING HEARINGS FOR DRILLING IN GOLDEN GATE ESTATES.

THE DRILLING TECHNIQUE USES CHEMICALS, SAND, AND WATER TO EXTRACT OIL.

SOME ACCUSE THE COMPANY OF THE HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL FRACKING PROCEDURE.

PHONER

Karen Dwyer, Ph.D

Stone Crab Alliance

it's not a question for me. we know what their intentions are we've looked at the water usage. we know these folks can't police themselves.

THE COMPANY NOW FACES A 25-THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE.

AND IS FORCED TO HIRE AN OUTSIDE COMPANY TO MONITOR WATER.

BUT ENVIRONMENTALISTS SAY IT'S NOT ENOUGH.

THEY WANT THE COMPANY SHUT DOWN--

AND WANT THE VIOLATION CONSIDERED WHEN DECIDING IF DRILLING WILL BE ALLOWED IN GOLDEN GATE ESTATES.

Joe Mule

President, Preserve Our Paradise

they will realize that accidents do happen mistakes do happen. these people are not to be trusted 05

FAMILIES ANXIOUSLY WAIT, HOPING FOR SURVIVORS. AS MORE BODIES ARE BROUGHT ASHORE.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

INCREASING HEAT AND HUMIDITY

We've seen a mix of sun and clouds through the day today and will continue with a few clouds as we finish out the day and head toward the evening time frame. Expect temperatures in the low to mid 60s into tomorrow morning under mostly clear skies.

For tomorrow we'll continue with that mix of sun and clouds and afternoon high temperatures will reach in to the low to mid 80s. The warming trend will continue through the week and as we head into the weekend.

By the end of the workweek afternoon highs will be in the upper 80s and lows will be in the upper 60s. Winds will also take on more of a southerly component by the end of the week, leading to a noticeable uptick in the humidity levels.

We'll continue with the sun and cloud mix along with plenty of warm humid air in place through the weekend. Return to index of stories...
